Staff Selection Commission is the apex recruitment body for some Group B posts, all the Group C and Group D recruitment for the Central Government Ministries and departments. SSC recruits these candidates through various examinations. It also recruits candidates for the post of Constables in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Sub-Inspectors in Delhi Police. SSC conduct the following exams to recruit candidates for various posts.

  • SSC JE
  • SSC CGL
  • SSC CHSL
  • SSC GD
  • SSC JHT
  • SSC MTS
  • SSC Stenographer
  • SSC CPO

SSC Eligibility

Eligibility criteria for all the exams are notified in their official notification. There are the following components of the eligibility for any exam:

  • Nationality
  • Educational Qualification
  • Age Limit

The above are the important components of SSC eligibility criteria. The candidates are required to read the official notification in its entirety to confirm that they fulfil all the eligibility conditions because if any of the condition is not met, the Commission can cancel the candidature of the candidates at any time irrespective of the result.

Q:   What is the age limit to appear for SSC CHSL exam? What kind of job opportunities can I get after qualifying the same?
A:
The age limit to appear for SSC CHSL exam is from 18-27 years. After clearance of exam, one can apply for jobs like Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), Postal Assistant (PA), Sorting Assistant (SA), Data Entry Operator (DEO), Data Entry Operator, etc. Yes, someone can take a leave of 1 year without losing the job. Career Launcher, Institute of Banking Training, Teachwell Institute, etc. are some of the best coaching institutes for preparation of SSC CHSL.
Q:   What is the minimum educational qualification required to apply for the SSC CGL exam?
A:
Candidates who possess a Bachelor's degree can apply for the SSC CGL exam. The Diploma holders are not eligible to apply for the exam. The candidates who are in the last year of their graduation can apply for the exam under the 'result awaited category' but they need to acquire their graduation degree before the last date of application which is considered as the cutoff date. There is no bar of minimum percentage in the Graduation exam. Candidates with any percentage can apply for the SSC CGL exam. The Commission provides a level playing field to all the candidates.
Q:   Can I directly get a job after qualifying SSC CGL exam?
A:
Staff Selection Commission - Combined Graduate Level Examination, often referred to as SSC CGL is an examination conducted to recruit staff to various posts in ministries, departments and organisations of the Government of India. It is conducted by the Staff Selection Commissioned for selecting staff for various Group B and Group C posts. The examination consists of a Preliminary Examination followed by a Main examination. Earlier it also used to have interviews, but following a government order, interviews have been dispensed off for all non-gazetted posts in the central government. A computer proficiency test or a skill test will also be held for some posts. Therefore, you will get job directly for all none gazetted posts only but will have to appear for interview for job in gazetted posts.

SSC CGL exam
  • a subject of Nepal, Bhutan, or
  • a Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  • a person of Indian origin migrated from either/or Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

SSC Age Relaxation

Besides above, Staff Selection Commission provides age-relaxation to the reserved category candidates in the following manner:

SSC provides the same age relaxation in all examinations with minor changes to certain categories.

The candidates are required to score the above minimum marks to become eligible for the selection in the SSC CGL Tier 1 result. The minimum qualifying marks must not be confused with the Cutoff. The SSC CGL Cutoff is different from minimum qualifying marks. 

SSC Exam Educational Qualification Required

SSC mentions the educational qualification for each of the posts separately in the official notification. The candidates must confirm to the education qualification requirements given in the official notification.

  • Graduate from any recognised university or institutions

 

 

SSC CHSL exam

  • For Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC)/Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), Postal Assistant (PA)/Sorting Assistant (SA), Data Entry Operator (DEO): Candidates should clear Class 12 or possess an equivalent qualification from a recognised board or university
  • For DEO (Grade A) in the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG): Candidates should pass Class 12 in the Science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognised board or equivalent
SSC GD Constable exam
  • Candidates who have cleared Class 10 from a recognised board/university as of the prescribed date are eligible to apply 
  • The candidates appearing in the class 10 exam are also eligible

SSC MTS

  • The candidate must have passed the Matriculation exam or equivalent from a recognised board.
  • The candidates who have passed the matriculation in a distance learning mode/open university shall also be eligible for the exam.

 

SSC JHT exam
 

  • Master’s degree in English with Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination.
  • Master’s degree from a recognised University in Hindi with English as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level
  • Recognised Diploma or Certificate course in translation from Hindi to English & vice versa.

  • Candidates must have passed a Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or institution
  • Candidates who have pursued their degrees/diplomas through open and distance learning mode of education can apply for the exam.
  • Those whose graduation is not complete as of the date of application are not eligible for the exam
SSC Stenographer exam
  • The candidates must have passed Class 12 or equivalent examination from a recognised board or university and can apply for the exam.
  • The candidates appearing in Class 12 are not eligible.
