
The Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) shared the exam pattern of the CMI entrance exam 2025 for undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses in the information brochure after the release of the online application form. The CMI entrance exam 2025 will be held in a pen-and-paper-based test mode on May 24, 2025.
In the examination, for all the courses offered, Part A consists of objective questions that have to be answered directly on the computer. An answer booklet will be provided to write your answers on paper for the remaining parts mentioned in the CMI Entrance Exam Syllabus 2025.
Candidates appearing for the CMI entrance exam must check the exam pattern details, including type of questions, sectional weightage, subjects, marking scheme and other details. The exam pattern of the CMI entrance exam 2025 is indefinite and varies for each subject. NOTE: Students with exceptionally good performance in the National Olympiads in Mathematics, Physics and Informatics are exempted from writing the BSc entrance examination.

The entrance exam for undergraduate courses is based on the topics as under:
BSc (Hons) Mathematics and Computer Science: The entrance exam will test a candidate's aptitude for Mathematics at the Class 12 level. The exam will have both objective questions and problems drawn mostly from the following topics: Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus.
From 2013 onwards, the BSc (Hons) Mathematics and Computer Science entrance exam pattern changed from previous years.
BSc (Hons) Mathematics and Physics: The entrance exam for this will be the same as BSc (Hons) Mathematics and Computer Science. The exam will test a candidate's aptitude for Mathematics at the Class 12 level.

The exam pattern of postgraduate courses will be as under:
MSc/PhD Computer Science: The test will feature MCQs (multiple choice questions) and questions that require detailed solutions. The questions will be mostly from the following topics: discrete mathematics, algorithms, basic computer organisation and some programming.
MSc/PhD Mathematics: The exam will test a candidate's aptitude for Mathematics. The paper will comprise MCQs and questions that require detailed solutions. The questions will be asked from topics like algebra, real analysis, complex analysis, calculus.
MSc Applications of Mathematics: The entrance exam will feature both multiple-choice questions and problems requiring detailed solutions.
