Q:   How hard is it to get admission in Delhi University for an average student?
A:

The admission process for Delhi University (DU) is extremely competitive, especially for the well known and popular courses and colleges. However, the difficulty level of admission varies depending on the programme a student wishes to get into. Some of the key parameters that define how difficult can be for a student to get into a good DU college with good course:

  • Scores in CUET/ Class 12
  • Category
  • Selection of College + Course combination in the CSAS registration process

Up until 2021, only top scorers of Class 12 were able to get into Hindu, Hansraj, Miranada, SRCC, LSR and other reputed colleges for top courses such as BA (Hons) in Economics/ English/ Political Science, BSc (Hons) Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics and BCom (Hons) courses. However, the introduction of CUET has changed the game. Now, even if a student could not do well in Class 12 has a chance of getting into the cream colleges with a good score in CUET.

However, if the dream is just to study in a reputed DU college, there is a basic hack that can be followed by anyone and everyone. All the top colleges of DU offer short-duration certificate courses in Languages and other interest areas. Those who are not able to get into DU can witness the buzz of being a DU student by pursuing these courses. For details on the same, students are advised to visit the official website of the DU affiliated colleges.

Q:   Can I get admission at DU in a BSc course without CUET?
A:

No, Delhi University offers admission to the BSc programmes at its colleges based on CUET score only. There is no provision for direct admissions. Hence, aspirants must take the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). The national-level exam is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). It is conducted in different phases. Eligible students can apply on NTA website to take the test. Students seeking admission to DU colleges should select DU college plus preferred course at the time of registration.

After CUET result declaration, aspirants are required to register on DU CSAS portal. The course and college allotment process is done based on the preferences submitted by the students during the form filling. After final selections, students can pay the admission fee to confirm admission.

Q:   What is DU CUET UG Counselling process?
    A:

Before the CUET counselling process for DU will even begin, it is necessary that aspirants opt for DU during CUET form filling and later apply on the CSAS portal to be eligible for admission. The admission process after CUET result declaration is explained below:

Step 1: After the declaration of the CUET UG exam, register on the DU CSAS portal in multiple phases.

Step 2: Submit College + Course combination preferences in the order of priority on the CSAS dashboard.

Step 3: The University has released the dates for three DU CSAS Seat Allocation Lists for all categories.

    • The "freeze" option in seat allocation for CSAS (DU) is to be selected by the students to confirm their admission choice to the allocated college and course at DU.
    • If candidates are happy with the assigned college and course, they can freeze the request through their dashboard.
    • Once they select this option, they will not be considered for "upgradation" of choice in further rounds of CSAS.
    • Candidates must only select this option only if they are satisfied with the allocated seat and want to take admission to this course & college
    • If they do not choose to upgrade or freeze your admission, their current status will be maintained.

Step 4: Once the candidate "Accept" the provisionally allocated seat, the concerned college will verify the eligibility and documents uploaded by the candidate online. The college has an option to 'Accept' or 'Reject' the admission of the student basis the verification.

Step 5: Once the DU-affiliated college accords the approval, candidates will have to pay the 'Admission Fee' to confirm their seat.

On the basis of the availability of seats due to rejections, cancellations, and withdrawals, DU may announce multiple allocation rounds. The University of Delhi will display the vacant seats on its admission website (admission.uod.ac.in) before every allocation round.
