Exploring Jamia Millia Islamia : A student's insight.

Placements: I might not be well-versed in the placements in our English department, as I have not encountered any yet. However, I've heard that some organizations, like Times of India, do come and offer opportunities like content writing, content development, and much more.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure of JMI is vibrant, but when it comes to the classrooms, opinions change and libraries are well-equipped with books, and they do have AC, but the modern classrooms still have a long way to go. Yes, the university does provide Wi-Fi, but you can't have access to it all across the campus; yet, it is still manageable. Obviously, the canteen is what enriches the campus. From Hygienic to Castro to Dastarkhan, each weaves its own tapestry of stories. So, overall, the infrastructure is still appreciable!

Faculty: The faculty at JMI is well qualified, and many of them are Ph.D. holders, when it comes to the curriculum, it's okay, I mean, it will help the students in their future. However, my only concern is that it has been the same for ages. The curriculum does help the students shape their writing skills. Also, the semester exams are not difficult, as once you get the core of the syllabus, you just need 2 months to get a SGPA above 8.

Other: I chose this course because it piques my interest and I have always had a passion for reading novels, may it be fiction, fantasy, or a similar genre. The best thing about the course is that it is beautifully divided for each semester. I mean, you get something new to read every semester, which makes it fun and enjoyable. The course can be improved by incorporating the works of Indian authors, as I have realized it is filled with works by Shelley, Marlowe, and Austen, but one doesn't get much insight into the authors of their own nation.

Jamia Millia Islamia- Department of English .

Placements: We've formed a Placement Cell, especially for placement where we get to place in a lot of companies. And that placement cell is managed by some students and teachers. I have not had any placement yet as I'm not a final year student but I hope that I will get placements from this cell.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure of my course is exquisite. I love the portions and syllabus. We get an environment where we learn, grow and evolve. Don't know about hostels, I haven't been to college, still waiting for my college to get open so I can experience my offline classes for the very first time.

Faculty: Everything is nice. Our teachers are highly qualified. Recently our dean, Asaduddeen sir was called for a lecture in INALCO, Paris. We have given three exams till now and they all were conducted fairly. We love to be here. Waiting for the college to reopen asap.

Completely content with the teaching style, administration, and campus facilities.

Placements: The placement cell of JMI is weak, especially when it comes to a subject like English literature. Some bright students get offers from renowned newspapers for the position of a writer/editor, and many students are welcomed into book publishing houses.

Infrastructure: Though it's my second year, because of the pandemic the mode is online, and I have never got the chance to be in a hostel. But, I do have the access to campus, library, and canteen. I would rate that 5/5. The quality of food available in the canteen is good and hygienic.

Faculty: The professors are efficient, supportive, and cooperative, and the course is good. The questions asked in exams are from the portion which is being taught in the class. The course curriculum is relevant and interesting.

Other: English was something, and I wanted to pursue since I was a child. This subject has always fascinated me, and while I was applying for entrance, I thought why not pursue it at India's top central university.

Love being a part of JMI. Amazing atmosphere and the faculty are dedicated to the students.

Placements: As it is only my first semester, I don't really know the details about placements. But many of my classmates (including me) are very good at curating content whether by writing articles or editing videos or handling social media, and through this many of us have got offers from societies and clubs of the University. So I can safely say that we have good job opportunities for us, as content is very important for all the businesses.

Infrastructure: Jamia Millia Islamia has amazing high-speed 5g Wi-Fi available throughout the university for all of its students. The classrooms are clean and sanitary. The bathrooms have a sanitary pad dispenser, which comes in, which is very helpful. The library in the English department is top-notch and contains all the texts required for the course as well as material for some leisure reading too!

Faculty: The professors are generally nice and helpful, though strict at times. The teaching quality is amazing and easy to grasp. The course curriculum was beautifully curated - for example in our poetry paper, we had Shakespeare, Donne, Milton, Gray, etc. So a wide range of texts were taught. The exams aren't too difficult, but yes, you have to study sincerely for scoring good marks. However, the exams can be very lengthy, so you definitely have to improve your writing speed. The pass percentage is approximately 40%.

Other: Jamia Millia Islamia has so many amazing societies and clubs! I myself am a part of four societies, and I thoroughly enjoy every part of this experience. There is seriously no better place than JMI!
