For UG courses, candidates must complete Class 12 and for PG courses, students must complete graduation. Oberoi Hotels & Resorts: Graduates of SRM IHM have been hired by Oberoi Hotels & Resorts for a variety of roles, such as restaurant manager, housekeeping executive, and front desk executive. They recruit around 2-7 candidates every year.

ITC Hotels: Graduates of SRM IHM have been hired by ITC Hotels for a variety of roles, including executive positions in finance, human resources, and sales and marketing. They hire around 6-12 candidates every year.

The university fee structure is cumulative of several components, such as caution deposit, tuition fee, hostel fee, and more. A few of these components are one-time payable, while some have are charged annually/semesterly. SRM IST Chennai MBA tuition fee ranges between INR 1.9 Lacs and INR 11.5 lakh. Moreover, the one-time fee range between INR 1,200 and INR 11,000 and the hostel charges range between INR 1.45 Lacs and INR 3.3 lakh.

SRM Institute of Science and Technology or SRM IST (formerly known as SRM University Chennai) was established in 1985 and is located in Kattankulathur, Chennai. It is considered to be a good college as it is ranked 1001-1200 by the QS World University Rankings 2025 under the 'World University' category. Further,  SRM University Chennai Rankings include 4th rank by Outlook 2023 under the Engineering category,  4th rank by Times 2023 for BBA, and 11th rank by NIRF 2024 under the Architecture category. 

SRM University conducts SRM JEE exam for admission to Engineering courses. The university does not accept scores for any other entrance exams. Also, direct admission is not valid either. Candidates are shortlisted for BTech and M.Tech based on their past academic records and scores obtained in the entrance exam.

SRM Institute of Science and Technology admissions are conducted on the basis of entrance tests. The admission for the flagship programs are held on the basis of SRMJEEE UG exam. Further, SRM MBA admissions are conducted on the basis of SRMJEEM test. The SRMJEEE PG test is conducted for the various SRMIST PG courses. The university also accepts scoring from nationally-held tests like CAT, TANCET, MAT, etc. for admissions.

The SRMIST average package for 2025 stood at INR 6.68 LPA. Earlier, the average package for 2024 placements stood at INR 7.13 LPA and in 2023 it was INR 10.5 LPA.
