The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), established in 1958 (65 years ago), has the motto Knowledge is the Supreme Goal. It is a public research university and technical institute in Powai, Mumbai. The IITs were designated as Institutes of National Importance by Parliament in 1961. Popularly known as one of the best engineering universities in India, it is marked as the second-top institute ranked at 172 in the QS World University Rankings 2022 and third in the NIRF 2022 among the top 100 engineering institutes in the country.

The IIT Bombay campus, which has an area of about 545 acres and is located in Powai, one of the northern suburbs of Mumbai, offers its residents a perfect balance between being in the hustle and bustle of India's financial capital and enjoying the serenity of its picturesque campus. Q:   Is BDes available at IIT Bombay?
A:

Yes, BDes is available at IIT Bombay. It is a four-year full-time course spread across eight semester. IIT Bombay offers BDes through IDC School of Design at the UG level. It also offers five-year integrated BDes + MDes programme spread across 10 semesters. The option of doing a dual degree, is available at the end of third year. Candidates who have completed Class 12 can apply for IIT Bombay BDes courses.

Q:   Can I get IIT Bombay for MBA?
A:

IIT Bombay offers MBA for a duration of two years divided into four semesters. The institute offers MBA through Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM). The selection for the candidates for MBA admission will be carried out in two phases.

  • Aspirants will be shortlisted for a personal interview round based on CAT scores.
  • The final selection will be based on the candidate’s composite score of different parameters, including CAT score, academic performance and work experience.
Q:   Is BTech available in IIT Bombay?
A:

Yes, IIT Bombay offers a four-year BTech in eight specialisations. Admission to these programmes is based on merit in JEE Advanced. Only the students who pass JEE main can take the advanced exam. The aspirants who furher meet the cutoff criteria can participate in JoSAA counselling.

Gymkhana:

The students' Gymkhana is an organisation that promotes and develops all student events at the Institute, along with its infrastructure. It seeks to encourage and advance students' organisational skills. Over the years, it has been effective in developing a knowledgeable, articulate, and active student community. It has been helpful in identifying student problems and encouraging conversation about them. It serves as the headquarters for all student elections and nominations for gymkhana activities.

Moreover, among all engineering colleges in India, IIT Bombay has the best cultural scene (or "cult"). Aside from hosting India's largest college festival, Mood Indigo, they have an active intra-college scene, with genre-specific clubs and plenty of hostel- and institution-level events throughout the year. It includes 10 genres: music, fine arts, speaking and debating, literary arts, dance, dramatic arts, film and media, design, and lifestyle.

Sports:

An institute's excellence in sports is a direct indication of its intellectual maturity and stature. IIT Bombay has always set precedents for other institutions by focusing on multifaceted development and pushing students to achieve more. Q:   How is the MA in Research at IIT Bombay?

The HSS department at IITBombay is introducing the Master of Arts by Research (MA. Res) with precisely this emphasis. The faculty members in the department represent diverse areas of expertise and have considerable experience teaching with an emphasis on research skills while accommodating disciplinary crossovers with ease. This is especially important since many of the concerns of the Humanities and Social Sciences requireamulti-disciplinary approach. Our students have been successful both in working at the interfaces of different areas and in transcending traditional disciplinary boundaries in their work. The programme combines course work to build student competence in specific areas, research training, and researchmodules for independent work. Students are expected to carry out a successful programme of research within the duration of the programme. The internal structure of the programme is designed to be quite different from course intensive postgraduate programmes and allows for relative flexibility interms of student backgrounds and prior training

In addition to two swimming pools, the institute also has football, hockey, and cricket grounds, as well as tennis, basketball, squash, and volleyball courts.

Hostel and mess facilities:

There are a total of 18 hostels, of which two hostels and a wing of the newly constructed hostel are exclusively for female students. The hostel facilities at IIT Bombay are good enough. Proper mess facilities are provided at IIT Bombay, which include all three meals and evening snacks.

Connectivity and availability:

Buses and local trains link the campus to the city centre, which is one hour away. The majority of amenities, though, like banks, a retail mall, two top-notch elementary schools, and a modern hospital, are found right on campus. In student residences and IIT staff housing, every student and the majority of the faculty members live on campus. The campus' serene atmosphere belies the broad range of extracurricular activities that support academic life.
