SEED Participating Institutes 2026 - The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) conducts the SEED 2026 entrance exam for admission to the B.Des program and M.Des offered by the institute. The program has an intake capacity of approximately 180 seats. for Indian nationals. In addition, Symbiosis Institute of Design also has 27 supernumerary seats earmarked for international candidates.

Total seat intake = Seat Intake for Indians + Seat Intake for International Students 

   = 180 + 27

   = 207 seats

The B.Des course is available in four disciplines - Communication Design, Industrial Design, Fashion Design, and Fashion Communication.

SEED Entrance Exam for B.Des was conducted on January 11, 2026, between 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. SEED Entrance exam for M.Des will be conducted on April 29, 2026 (Wednesday).

Q:   What is the seat intake for B.Des program in Communication Design through SEED 2026?
A: 

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) offers specializations in four disciplines -  Communication Design, Industrial Design, Fashion Design, and Fashion Communication. The candidate can select their choice of specialisation when filling the application form. Note that the allotment of specialisation would be done as per the merit rank of the candidate in the SEED 2026 exam. Currently, the seat intake for the Communication Design for Indian students stands at 26 seats. In addition, there are 4 seats for international students. So, the combined intake for Indian and international students come to 30 seats.

Q:   How many times is the SEED exam conducted in a year?
A: 

The Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED) is a national level entrance exam conducted by Symbiosis International University. The exam is conducted once a year. The SEED exam is conducted as a home-proctored exam that candidates can take from the comfort of their home. The scores of the exam are considering for admission to the B.Desprogrammeoffered by participating colleges.

The application form for SEED 2024 will open around the 1st week of September 2023.

Q:   What is the admission process to the B.Des program at SID through SEED 2026?
A: 

Candidates seeking admission to the B.Des programme at SID need to first appear in the SEED 2026 written exam. Shortlisted candidates have to appear in a Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round. To appear in the personal interaction, the candidate will have to book their slots. The candidate will also have to upload a PRPI Task and Portfolio. 

The final merit list for admission will be prepared by considering the performance of the candidate in the Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED), Portfolio Review, PRPI Task and Personal Interaction. The admission committee will also take into account the information provided by the candidate in the application form and the chosen specialization.

A:

Q:   What should be included in the SEED 2026 Portfolio?
A: 

Candidates have to upload a digital portfolio as part of admission process at SID. It must be candidate’s best works that show skills, passion and interest in a variety of areas and techniques. When uploading portfolio, candidate must follow rules and guidelines issued.

SEED Portfolio must contain

  • Sketches, mixed media illustrations and digital work
  • Collaging of images, 2D and 3D articles
  • Photography
  • 3D objects like sculpture, fabric products, gadgets, art inspired products etc.
Q:   When will mock tests of SEED 2026 be conducted?
A: 

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) conducted mock tests for the SEED 2026 exam on January 07, 2026. Mock tests were hosted online at the SID admission portal - sid.edu.in.

Admission to B.Des & M.Des program at SID - Step-wise process

  1. The candidate needs to first appear in the Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED) 2026. The result of SEED 2026 would be used to shortlist candidates for a Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round. 
  2. Shortlisted candidates have to upload their portfolios and PRPI tasks.
  3. The Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) was conducted in online mode.
  4. A merit list will be prepared based on the performance of the candidate in the SEED 2026 entrance test, uploaded tasks, and PRPI round. 
  5. Those included in the merit list are eligible for admission and need to pay the admission fee and get registered.

As per information on SID website, the institute does not promote or is aware of any coaching classes/preparatory classes. So, the candidate can decide whether they want to join any coaching institute or not. Note that there are many coaching institutes that offer preparation classes for exams like NIFT, NID DAT, etc.

Q:   When will the Symbiosis Institute of Design release then official syllabus for the SEED 2026 exam?
A: 

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) will release the updated syllabus for the SEED 2026 exam on its official portal at the time of release of the application form or sometime thereafter. The candidate can download the syllabus online at - sid.edu.in. The SEED 2026 syllabus will contain the topics that the candidate needs to prepare for the SEED 2026 entrance exam. 

It is recommended that the candidate only follows the official syllabus and not those released by unofficial sources. It is because questions will be asked from the official syllabus only. Also, unofficial sites may contain error-prone and misleading information.

SEED 2026 Application is out for the B.Des Programme. The Application was started on August 01, 2025, and was open till November 30, 2025. Application for M.Des is out. The last date to fill the form is April 25, 2026.

Q:   Can I make partial payment for M.Des seat-acceptance fee through SEED 2026?
A: 

Candidates who are allotted seats will have to pay seat-acceptance fee within the given deadline. If the payment is not made, allotment will be cancelled. Vacant seat will be offered to the candidate next in the order of merit. Also, there is no option to make a partial payment.

Q:   Can I get admission to a PG courses at SID through the SEED 2026 exam?
A: 

SID presently offers only UG courses in design. So, candidates can’t appear in the SEED 2026 exam for admission to any PG courses. The SEED written exam is administered in the month of January. Candidates who qualify in the written exam has to next appear in a PRPI round. The final merit list for SID will be prepared by considering the performance of the candidate in the SEED 2026 written exam, personal interaction, and PRPI and Portfolio review.

There are currently 180 seats available for the B.Des programme for Indian nationals. There are also 27 supernumerary seats earmarked for international students. 

Q:   What is the eligibility criteria for admission to the B.Des programme at SID through SEED 2024?
A: 

The eligibility criteria for admission to the B.Des programme is determined by the Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID). The candidates can go through the program-specific eligibility criteria on the admission portal of SID - sid.edu.in. 

SEED 2024 eligibility criteria for the B.Des programme is explained below.

A candidate must have passed 10+2 (any stream) or an equivalent or 10+3 Diploma approved by State Board of Technical Education with minimum 50% (SC/ST - 45%) aggregate marks.

Candidate who are appearing for the final examination of 10+2 grade or 10+3 Diploma programme may also apply. However, the results of the examination should have be declared by June of the admission year or prior.

Q:   What is the total seat intake for the B.Des program through SEED 2026?
A: 

The B.Des programme has an intake capacity of 180 seats (Indian nationals only). In addition, there are 27 seats reserved for international students. The candidate may note that the seat intake is however subject to approval from SIU. There is also reservation of seats for SC, ST, and Differently Abled candidates.

The B.Des programme is available in four specialisations - Communication Design, Industrial Design, Fashion Design, and Fashion Communication.

Admission to the 4-year B.Des courses offered by the institute will be based on the cumulative performance of the candidate in the SEED 2026 written exam, PRPI and Portfolio Review.

SEED B.Des round 2 will be conducted on March 22, 2026. It will be in online mode. Exam timing will be one hour between 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on the test day. It will have 60 questions.
