What is CEED Entrance Test?
IIT Bombay conducts the CEED Entrance Exam every year for admission to its M.Des Programme. CEED Exam stands for Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED). It is a national-level design entrance examination for M.Des and PhD programmes. It offers admission in IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Roorkee, IIT Gandhinagar and IIITDM Jabalpur.

CEED Exam is conducted in the third week of January every year. The exam is of three hours and is conducted offline at the CEED Entrance centres. The reporting time is usually 9 AM to 12 PM.
CEED 2027 Application
CEED Applications 2027 will open in the first week of October 2026. The applications will be available on the official website of CEED. A registration fee of INR 2,000 will be applicable for all the women candidates, INR 2,000 for SC/ST and PwD candidates and INR 4,000 for all other candidates. All those who want to pursue Master's and PhD from IITs must fill the application form.

No, mock tests are not the same as CEED question or sample papers.
It is because the main purpose of the mock tests is to help the candidate get acquainted with the exam pattern and system, especially if the exam is conducted in an online mode. The mocks will allow the candidate get accustomed with the exam mode, navigation, scoring, and answering patterns. To some extent it also may help the candidate improve problem-solving and time-managment skills, which are typically the exclusive domain of CEED sample papers.
Additionally, mock tests are meant to be taken in the last few days of the exam. On the other hand, sample papers are typically solved even in the early stages of exam preparation.
CEED question paper will have two sections, Part A and Part B. Both sections are mandatory. Part A will have three sections, MCQ, MSQ and NAT. Part B will include only subjective type questions.
The topics listed in the CEED syllabus is indicative in nature. Also, the syllabus is exhaustive in the sense that questions may be asked from all or some of the topics. So, the candidate can’t skip any topics when preparing for CEED.
The candidate is urged to go through the previous years' question papers to get an idea about the paper structure and types of questions asked. That being said, keep in mind that the syllabus has been revised for CEED.
The application fee will be non-refundable and non-transferable. CEED 2027 will also provide an opportunity to fill out the application form after the regular closing date by paying a late fee of INR 500 along with the application fee.
CEED 2027 Eligibility criteria
Before applying, check the eligibility criteria for CEED M.Des.
- Candidates must have a graduate/postgraduate/diploma for a minimum of three years after the 10+2 level, or must be appearing for the final examination of such a programme by July 2027, or must have passed the GD Arts diploma programme (10+5 level) by July 2027.
- Age Limit: There is no age limit to appear for the CEED Examination 2027.
- A candidate can appear for CEED any number of times.

CEED 2027 Syllabus
Candidates can find the CEED 2027 Syllabus in the official brochure. It has two parts: Part A and Part B. Part A will have questions related to the following topics.

- Communication: Skills to communicate concepts and ideas clearly with the help of text and visuals.
- Problem identification: Skills to understand the user and the context, knowledge of properties of materials and their appropriate use in design.
Commonly asked questions
The mock tests will have similar types of questions to those asked in the actual exam. But the CEED mock test will have less questions than the real exam.
Purpose of the mock tests is to help the candidate get an idea of the question paper structure and learn about answering process.
The candidate can take the mock tests closer to the exam and give finishing touches to their preparation. Mocks will help the candidate identify areas that need improvement and work on them.
Candidates can take mock tests conducted by unofficial sources like coaching institutes, etc, after paying a certain fee. They may also take mock tests conducted by other entrance exams. Sample papers are also a useful tool to prepare for CEED exam.

CEED 2027 Pattern
CEED Entrance Exam will have 44 questions in Part A and 5 questions in Part B. The question paper is expected to have Numerical Answer Type, Multiple Select Question, and Multiple Choice Question. There will be negative marking in MSQs and MCQs.

Yes, candidates must follow the exam pattern for CEED 2026. It is because the exam pattern will guide the candidate as to how to prepare for the exam.
As per the CEED 2026 exam pattern, Part A will include NAT, MCQ, MSQ-type questions. These questions will require the candidate to select a correct answer option. CEED 2027 Part B is expected to be of a total of 100 marks and the maximum time will be 2 hours. It will consist of 5 questions, which will test design, drawing and writing skills.

CEED 2027 Sample Paper
CEED Question Papers are available on the official website. Candidates can download the question paper without any login credentials. Question papers and answer keys from 2010 onwards are available on the website. The question paper of 2027 will be released when the Draft Answer key is released.

Yes, there is negative marking in CEED Question paper. Section MSQ and MCQ will have negative marking under Part A. NAT section of Part A will not have any negative marking. CEED Part B will be a subjective paper and will have no negative marking.
The CEED syllabus was revised in the previous edition.
It is very important for the candidate to solve previous years’ question papers. The reason being the question papers will help the candidate identify the types of questions asked, marking scheme, difficult level, etc.
Considering the syllabus for CEED has been revised, the candidate may solve only those questions that are still included in the topic. Carefully go through the revised syllabus and check out the topics; identify the topcis that are same as last year. You can use the question papers and solve questions for the common topics.
CEED 2027 Centre
IIT Bombay will conduct CEED Entrance exam at the test centres in about 27 cities in India. CEED examination will be conducted in the following cities: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh/Mohali, Coimbatore, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Ernakulam, Guwahati, Hubballi (Hubli), Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Noida, Panaji, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, and Visakhapatnam.
Candidates have to choose three cities in order of preference at the time of filling the CEED Application 2027. After filling the form, CEED centre cannot be edited.
CEED 2027 Admit Card
It is mandatory for students to download and carry their CEED Admit card to appear for the entrance exam. It will be released on the official website of CEED and an email ID and password are required to download the CEED Admit Card. The CEED Hall ticket is expected to be out in the first week of January 2027 for M.Des applicants.

CEED 2027 Answer Key
IIT Bombay releases Draft Answer key for students so that they can check their responses. IIT Bombay also releases Question Paper along with the draft answer key. The order in which a question appears may differ for each candidate. Hence, the candidates are advised to use the Master Question Paper uploaded on the CEED website as a reference to upload their comments/queries. Candidates can challenge the Draft Answer Key through the Candidate's portal.
After the incorporation of the responses, IIT Bombay released the CEED final answer key in the last week of January.
Steps to download CEED Answer Key 2027
- Go to the website of the CEED 2027 exam
- If the answer key is live, the download link will be activated
- Click on the 'CEED Answer key' download link
- The answer key will open in downloadable PDF format
- Download the answer key and check your answers.
CEED 2027 Result
The result for CEED is released in the first week of March. The result can be accessed on the candidate's portal. Email ID and a password are required to check the CEED result.
The result of CEED will have Name of the candidate, Roll number, Category, Part A and Part B Marks, Open and Category Rank, Date of issue of the scorecard, Validity of the scorecard, Category-wise qualifying marks for CEED 2027, the total number of candidates appearing in CEED 2027 and Number of candidates who have qualified in CEED 2027.
CEED 2027 Scorecard
CEED Scorecard is released in the second week of March. It is released on the website of CEED. CEED Scorecard is used to apply for various CEED Participating and Result-sharing institutes. A hard copy of the CEED 2027 Score Card will not be sent to any candidate.

CEED 2027 Counselling
IIT Bombay will not be conducting any Joint Counselling for CEED. In CEED, candidates have to apply to individual CEED participating and result-sharing institutes.
How to get admission to IITs after CEED results are announced?
- Candidates who have qualified CEED 2027 Exam should submit an Application form to the participating college.
- Candidates will be shortlisted for the next round by the institute. The next round will be an online interview.
- Submit the portfolio and appear for the online interview.
- Result will be declared for the selected students who have cleared the interview, and they will be asked to submit the fee and complete the formalities
CEED 2027 Cutoff
CEED Cutoff is released in the first week of February for Part A. No Cutoff is released for Part B. CEED Cutoff is released in the form of Mean and Standard Deviation.
Marks obtained in CEED Part-A will be used to shortlist candidates. The cut-off marks (𝛿) for Part-A for shortlisting candidates in the GEN category will be 𝜇 + (𝜎/2) = 𝛿, where 𝜇 is the average mark, and 𝜎 is the standard deviation of the distribution of marks obtained by all the candidates in Part-A of CEED 2027. The 𝜇 and 𝜎 will be rounded off to two decimal places.

IIT Bombay has not recommended a dress code for taking CEED Exam. But candidates should dress modestly for the exam. They should avoid heavy jewellery, rugged jeans, chunky shoes, etc.

The qualifying cut-off is the minimum marks a candidate needs to score in the paper to get shortlisted. Part B answer booklets will only be evaluated if the candidate gets shortlisted.
