Emotions running high across the aspirant community as the dust settles after the announcement of the GATE 2025 results, which was announced on March 19. Shiksha.com conducted a post-result poll to capture these reactions, asking candidates how their performance turned out. With 80 students participating, the poll revealed a spectrum of emotions—from satisfaction and surprise to disappointment and renewed determination. Read below to know more.
Poll Results at a Glance:
- 33% - Need to try again next year
- 31% - Slightly disappointed but okay
- 24% - Exceeded my expectations
- 13% - Turned out as expected
Majority Weren’t Fully Satisfied
A striking 31% of the respondents (combining “slightly disappointed” and “need to try again”) expressed some level of dissatisfaction with their GATE 2025 results. This indicates that while many had hopes riding high, the outcomes didn’t align with expectations for the majority.

Interestingly, 33% of candidates are already planning a second attempt in 2026, showing resilience and a willingness to aim higher. This group likely includes first-time test-takers and repeaters who still see GATE as a critical pathway to M.Tech programs or PSU jobs through GATE scores.

When Expectations Meet Reality
Only 13% of candidates said their results turned out exactly as expected. This relatively low number reflects how unpredictable the exam experience can be despite months or years of preparation.
On a more positive note, 24% said their performance exceeded expectations, suggesting that their preparation paid off beyond what they had hoped for for some students. These students may now seek admission into top IITs or strong PSU prospects.
What Do These Results Tell Us?
- Mental preparation is just as necessary as academic preparation – many students feel disappointed because of high personal benchmarks.
- The exam remains highly competitive – even well-prepared students may not consistently achieve their desired outcomes.
- There’s strong determination in the aspirant community – one-third of voters are ready to bounce back and prepare again.
