IIIT Admission Without JEE Main 2027?
The admission process varies across Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs). While many IIITs use JEE Main scores for regular BTech admissions, IIIT Hyderabad has multiple undergraduate admission channels. These alternate channels include UGEE, SPEC, LEEE, Olympiad-based admission. Each channel has its own eligibility requirements and may offer admission to specific programmes only.
1. UGEE 2027
The Undergraduate Entrance Examination (UGEE) is conducted by IIIT Hyderabad for admission to its dual-degree programmes. Candidates interested in research-oriented engineering programmes can consider this route instead of relying only on JEE Main. The admission process includes an entrance examination and an interview. The programmes offered through this channel include combinations of BTech and MS by Research in areas such as Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computational Linguistics, Computational Natural Sciences and Computing and Human Sciences.
2. Olympiad-Based Admission
IIIT Hyderabad also offers an admission channel for eligible candidates with achievements in recognised Olympiads. This option may suit students who have demonstrated exceptional ability in areas such as mathematics, computing, science or linguistics. Selection depends on the institute’s specified Olympiad criteria and admission process.
3. Special Channel of Admission (SPEC)
The Special Channel of Admission (SPEC) is another route offered by IIIT Hyderabad for eligible candidates. This channel has specific eligibility conditions linked to the candidate’s educational background or qualifying achievements. It is not a general alternative open to every Class 12 student who has not taken JEE Main. Eligible candidates may have to appear for a separate test and participate in further selection stages, as prescribed by the institute.
4. Admission Through Class 12 Board Marks
IIIT Hyderabad has also offered a board-score-based admission channel for selected dual-degree programmes. Under this route, eligible candidates with high Class 12 board scores may be shortlisted for an interview.
5. Lateral Entry Entrance Examination (LEEE)
Candidates who have already completed the required period of undergraduate study in an eligible programme may be able to apply through the Lateral Entry Entrance Examination (LEEE) at IIIT Hyderabad. This route is intended for eligible candidates seeking entry into specified dual-degree programmes. It is not a standard first-year BTech admission option for students applying immediately after class 12.
