NEET 2024 News and Updates: The NEET 2024 exam was conducted on May 5, 2024. The NEET 2024 admit card was released on May 2, 2024. NTA has stated that the NEET 2024 result will be declared on June 14, 2024

The NEET 2024 city intimation slip was released on April 24, 2024. NTA reopened the NEET 2024 application correction facility for the third time from April 25 to April 26, 2024, 11.59 PM. Candidates could update or correct their photographs. According to NTA, some candidates' photographs are not as per the prescribed standard or format. Their NEET admit card may be withheld in case they are not as per the guidelines. Hence, this opportunity is given to them once again.

NTA rereleased the NEET 2024 application form on April 9, 2024. The last date to fill and submit the application form was April 10, 2024, by 10.50 PM. The application fee had to be paid by 11.50 PM on the same date. Announcing the reopening of the NEET 2024 application process, NTA has stated, “We have received various representations from stakeholders with a request to re-open the registration window of NEET-UG 2024. Based on the representation, it has been decided to re-open the Registration window of NEET-UG 2024.” After this, the NEET 2024 application correction window was opened from April 11 to April 15, 2024.

The NEET 2024 application form was originally released on February 9, 2024, and the last date of application was March 16, 2024. The NEET 2024 application correction window was open from March 18, 2024, to March 20, 2024. Only those candidates, who completed the NEET 2024 application process, are allowed to edit or make corrections in the selected fields of the application form.

NTA has reversed the tie-breaking criteria to last year's factors. In the revised criteria, the final factor was a computerised draw of lots, which replaced the subject-wise accuracy proportion of candidates, that was followed in the previous years.

As per the notification, NEET 2024 exam centres were not slated to be located outside India. However, as per the NTA announcement dated February 20, 2024, the exam will now be conducted in 14 international cities, like last year. The number of exam cities in India has increased from 499 to 554. The tie-breaking criteria have also been revised.

The NEET 2024 syllabus by NTA was released on November 22, as was reported earlier. The NTA syllabus for NEET 2024 is the same as that released earlier by the National Medical Council (NMC). No other information has been announced by NTA apart from the NEET syllabus 2024 PDF yet.

NMC has announced the revision of the NEET 2024 eligibility criteria. As per this, candidates who have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as additional subjects are also eligible to appear for the exam. Till last year, applicants had to study these subjects as core papers for their Board exams in order to be eligible for the NEET exam.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) released the NEET 2024 syllabus earlier, which has removed some of the topics from the previous years in each subject, namely, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. On the other hand, some of the topics have been added as well. Unlike previous years, the NMC NEET UG syllabus 2024 is not segregated into Class 11 and Class 12 topics. On the other hand, the Chemistry subject has been divided into Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry sections.

Given the fact that there is a major change in the NEET 2024 syllabus and the NEET 2024 eligibility criteria brought in by NMC, there was a chance that the NEET 2024 exam pattern could change, but it has remained the same. The information bulletin and the complete NEET 2024 notification were released along with the NEET 2024 application form.

Q:   What is the date of NEET 2024?

A:

NTA announced the NEET 2024 exam date on September 19, 2023. NEET 2024 exam was conducted on May 5. The result of NEET 2024 will be declared on June 14, 2024. The NEET 2024 application process was conducted from February 9, 2024, to March 16, 2024. The last date of application was extended from March 9, by a week. The application and correction windows were reopened in April. While the NEET exam dates were scheduled in September and July a couple of years ago owing to the pandemic situation, it took a toll on the medical admission schedule. To bridge this gap, NTA conducted NEET in May last year. The trend is being continued for NEET 2024 as well.

Q:   Has there been any change in the syllabus of NEET 2025?

A:

Last year, the NEET syllabus underwent major changes as per the recommendation by the National Medical Commission (NMC).  A number of chapters and topics were removed from Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects. On the other hand, certain topics and chapters were added and some of the topics were modified. Since such major changes were brought in to last year's NEET syllabus, chances are low that the NEET 2025 syllabus will be changed.

NEET syllabus 2025 will be released officially by NTA along with the information bulletin for the exam, tentatively in the second week of February 2025. Hence, students preparing for NEET 2025 should start preparing, or continue their preparation based on last year's NEET syllabus. Even if some changes are introduced to the NEET 2025 syllabus, those would not be something major.

Q:   When will NTA open the NEET 2024 application correction window?

A:

NTA opened the NEET 2024 application correction window from March 18 to March 20, 2024. The correction window was reopened by NTA from April 11 to April 12, 2024. Aadhaar-authenticated candidates will be able to make corrections till April 15, 2024, till 11.50 PM. NTA reopened the correction window for the third time from April 25 to April 26, 2024, for making corrections in their uploaded photographs. Without the correct photograph, their NEET 2024 admit card will be withheld. The application correction window is available only for candidates who completed the NEET 2024 application process by paying the application fee. NTA  announced the specific fields which will be available for edit and the rest of the fields are uneditable, for both Aadhaar verified and Aadhaar non-verified candidates. Prior to starting the correction process, candidates had to check the list carefully and then proceed. There was no additional fee required for availing the NEET application correction facility unless there was a change of category impacting the application fee amount.

Q:   When will the NEET 2024 information brochure release?

A:

The NEET 2024 information brochure was released on February 9, 2024, along with the application form. The information brochure for NEET is a detailed document, which is available online on the official website of the exam in PDF format. It consists of indepth information regarding the NEET exam in terms of dates, eligibility criteria, application process, exam pattern, syllabus, test centre cities, admission process, among others. FAQs Regarding NEET 2024 News

Check out the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding the NEET 2024 news and updates here in this section.

Q:   Will NEET 2024 be delayed?

A:

NEET 2024 was conducted on May 5, 2024. NTA announced the exam date on September 19, approximately eight months in advance. NTA has decided the exam date after much deliberation and assessing situations such as Board exam schedule, other exams, etc. HOver the past few years, NEET exam date was delayed owing to the pandemic situation, which affected the overall academic calendar. To bring back normalcy, NTA conducted NEET UG 2024 in May, similar to the pre-pandemic era after much brainstorming and assessing other entrance exam dates. Last year, the exam was conducted on May 7, 2023, from 2 PM to 5.20 PM.

Q:   What was the NEET admit card 2024 release date?

A:

NTA released the NEET 2024 admit card on May 2, three days before the exam. NTA will re-conduct NEET 2024 exam on June 23 for 1,563 candidates who had been awarded grace marks for loss of time at the exam centre. For such candidates, NTA will likely release the NEET admit card 2024 by June 20, 2024. The exam authorites may also send the hall tickets to them by email.

Prior to the release of the NEET 2024 admit card, NTA released the advance intimation of exam city slip for NEET 2024, on April 24, 2024. The document mentions the city of the NEET exam centre allotted to candidates. Generally, NTA does not release the NEET admit card release date in advance. Registered candidates will have to log in to the NEET website with the registration credentials to download the admit card of NEET 2024. But it is unlikely that NTA will release city intimation slip for the re-NEET 2024.

Q:   What is the format for the NEET exam?

A:

The format for NEET exam is a total of 180 question with total 720 marks. Four marks will be awarded for a right answer and one mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. The questions will be objective type that is MCQ based. 90 questions will be from Biology including Zoology and Botany both, and 45 questions each from Physics and 45 Chemistry. Each subject will be divided into two sections. The syllabus will be that of Class 11 and Class 12 CBSE syllabus.

Q:   What is the duration of NEET counselling?

A:

The total duration of NEET counselling depends on the number of seats lying vacant at the end of the each round. Before each round of counselling, Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) releases the seat matrix or seat vacancy list. Once all the seats are filled, the counselling process of NEET will be considered complete. In general, the NEET UG counselling process ranges from two to three months. The duration of each round is around two to three weeks. The duration for the first two rounds is higher than that of the last two rounds. The last date may get extended based on the seat vacancy. Last year, NEET counselling was scheduled between July to November 2023.

Q:   When did NTA release the NEET 2024 result?

A:

The result of NEET 2024 was declared by NTA on June 4, 2024, 10 days ahead of the original schedule, which was June 14, 2024. The NEET 2024 result for the re-exam, which will be conducted on June 23, will be declared on June 30. NTA released the final NEET answer keys on June 4, prior to the release of the NEET result 2024. The NEET result was declared in an online mode. Candidates have to log in with their registration credentials or application number and date of birth, and download their scorecard in PDF format. NTA also released the merit list containing the name, Roll Number, All India Rank and Percentile of the candidates. Along with the NEET 2024 scorecard, NTA also released the NEET 2024 cutoff marks or the qualifying marks/scores.

Q:   What is the timing of the NEET examination?

A:

The duration of NEET exam is three hours and 20 minutes. The exam will commence at 2 PM and conclude at 5.20 PM as per the Indian Standard Time (IST). The timing for the international centres varied as per the local timings. NEET is a continuous test with no breaks allowed in between. Candidates needed to report to the exam centre at least one hour prior to the exam timing. Moreover, candidates were not be allowed to leave the exam hall before the stipulated duration as well.

Q:   What is the eligibility criteria for NEET?

A:

As per the eligibility criteria of NEET candidates should pass the Class 12th Board exam from a recognised institute and board from the Science stream with a minimum of 50 per cent aggregate (40 per cent for OBC/SC/ST and 45 per cent for PwD category candidates). The candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English subjects in Class 11 and Class 12. There has been a change in the NEET 2024 eligibility criteria. Till last year, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology subjects had to be studied as core subjects in order to be eligible to appear for the exam. This year, the National Medical Commission has revised the eligibility criteria, which states that candidates may study these subjects as additional papers. The minimum age limit is 17 years as on December 31 of the year of admission. The upper age limit criteria has been removed in the year 2022.
