FMGs Demand Separate Counselling for Domicile Candidates, Urge UP Medical Council to Act

The Doctors Welfare Federation India (DWF) has officially filed an open letter to the Registrar of the Uttar Pradesh Medical Council, expressing concern regarding the current common counselling system, which renders it difficult for local students to secure a seat at their preferred institutions in their home state.
The Foreign Medical Graduates in UP state urged the Uttra Pradesh Medical Council to hold an independent counselling session for domicile candidates and not to merge with non-domicile candidates. Reportedly, the Doctors Welfare Federation India (DWF) has formally written a letter to the Registrar of the Uttar Pradesh Medical Council, raising concern regarding the current common counselling procedure and its effects on home-state students.
The association mentioned that the current counselling method permits non-domicile candidates to compete with domicile candidates for medical seats in Uttar Pradesh, which makes it harder for local students to get admission to their preferred institutions due to excessive competition. Many highly qualified candidates from the state miss out on the possibilities due to increasing competition from students outside the Uttar Pradesh state, as reported by Medical Dialogues.
FMGs Demand Separate Counselling for Domicile Candidates
The DWF stated that numerous other states prioritize domicile students during the FMGE counselling process to make certain that domicile students have equal opportunities for admission. The association has since demanded that the Uttar Pradesh government comply with a similar strategy, with independent counselling sessions for domicile and non-domicile candidates. The association urged officials to take the necessary action, as this will enable deserving domicile-holding students to gain admission to their home state.
