The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) successfully conducted the SSC JE 2024 Tier 2 exam on November 6, 2024. According to the student reactions, the overall difficulty level of the SSC JE 2024 Tier 2 Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering exam was Moderate level. Data based questions were asked more. 8 to 10 questions asked were numerical based. Some of the students felt that the technical part was demanding because of the depth of questions and the subject-specific nature. This year, the total number of SSC JE vacancies has increased to 1765 from 968. Q:   Is SSC JE Grade A or Grade B post?

The SSC JE (Junior Engineer) examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission is for the recruitment of junior engineers in various government departments and organizations. The posts offered through the SSC JE exam are generally classified as Group-B (Non-Gazetted) posts.

To be more specific, the SSC JE posts are considered as Group-B (Non-Gazetted), Non-Ministerial posts. The selected candidates are appointed as junior engineers in different engineering disciplines such as Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Quantity Surveying and Contract.

It's worth noting that the SSC JE posts are not categorized as Grade A or Grade B. The grade system is typically used for categorizing posts in other examinations or job profiles. In the case of the SSC JE exam, the posts fall under Group-B (Non-Gazetted) classification.

Q:   What is the success rate of SSC JE exam?
A:

The success rate is defined by the number of candidates qualified in the SSC JE exam over the number the candidates appeared for the exam. The overall percentage of the candidates qualified versus appeared in the exam is 5 to 6 per cent. That is why it is one of the most difficult exams in India. However, it may vary year to year as per the difficulty level and the number of vacancies released in that year. 

The success percentage for the SSC JE exam showcae the competitive nature of the exam which draws aspirants from all over the India to compete for few seats in compare to the candidates registered for the exam. The selection ratio after the tier 1 is set to 1:3 that means, three aspirants will fight for 1 seat a well as the cut off for the Tier 1 is always higher than 80 per cent every year.

Q:   Do I have to prepare separate topics for the General Engineering section in SSC JE Paper 2?
A:

For the General Engineering section in SSC JE Paper 2, topics prepared for Paper 1 are usually enough. The Staff Selection Commission also prescribes the same topics for the General Engineering section of both papers. However, candidates must keep in mind that in the General Engineering section of Paper 2, 100 objective-based questions will be asked in the examination from the specific discipline chosen by candidates.

SSC JE 2024 Tier 2 Exam Pattern

SSC JE tier 2 is a descriptive exam conducted in online CBT mode (Computer Based Test). Candidates need to attempt questions from any one section - General Engineering (Civil & Structural), General Engineering (Electrical), and General Engineering (Mechanical). The questions are set in both English and Hindi languages. Candidates can attempt questions in any one language. The total duration of the exam is two hours.

Yes. The authority released the notification and application form. The last date to apply was July 21, 2025. The SSC JE Tier 1 exam 2025 will be conducted tentatively from October 27 to 31.
