Indian Air Force (IAF) conducted AFCAT 2 2022 exam on August 26, 27 and 28 in two shifts. The online test of AFCAT was divided into four sections. The overall difficulty level of the paper was easy to moderate. The exam pattern of AFCAT 2 remained the same as previous years'. Students said that the paper covered all the topics given in the AFCAT syllabus. For the first time, probability questions were asked in the Maths paper of the AFCAT exam. The current affairs questions were from the recent events that took place in 2022. There were questions from Ujjwala Scheme, Military Exercises, Name of the company that manufactures Tejas, Name of the aircraft that can carry Brahmos, etc. 

In Numerical Ability, questions were asked from Profit & Loss, Simple Interest, Compound Interest, Proportion. There were Arithmetic questions more. In English questions were asked from Antonyms, Synonyms, Idioms and Phrases, Fill in the Blanks, Jumbled Sentences. The Reasoning section carried questions based on the topics given in the syllabus.

AFCAT 2 Exam Pattern 2022

The question paper of AFCAT comprises a total of 100 questions. The maximum marks allotted for AFCAT are 300. The duration of AFCAT exam is two hours. Candidates who have opted for the Ground Duty (Technical) branch are required to appear for AFCAT and EKT both. All questions asked in the AFCAT and EKT exams are objective type, having multiple options. The EKT exam is conducted for 45 minutes and carries questions from subjects such as Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, and Electrical & Electronics Engineering. EKT paper carries a total of 50 questions. The maximum marks allotted for EKT exam are 150. Candidates need to secure the minimum qualifying marks to qualify for the exam. Shiksha reported live from one of the AFCAT 2 exam centres in Delhi to gather the feedback of students. Check below the feedback shared by the students on the difficulty level of the exam:

Ashutosh said, "The paper was easy and balanced in terms of difficulty level. In English, mostly there were questions from Synonyms, Antonyms. The Maths section was lengthy and there were questions from Probability for the first time. Mostly questions in General Awareness were from government schemes."

Ashwini said, "The paper was moderate. I found the English section to be hard. In GK, most questions were asked related to defence such as military exercises, history, awards, polity, etc. The Reasoning section was moderate. In English questions were asked from idioms, phrases, etc. In Maths, questions were asked from Arithmetic, profit and loss."

Sachin said, "The questions in English were quiet normal and not difficult. Questions were asked from paragraph, idioms and phrases, etc. In Maths questions were easy and questions were asked from direction, distance, simple and compound interest, etc."

Ashwini Kaushik said, "I found the paper to be moderate in terms of difficulty level. In English Questions were asked from Synonyms, Vocab, Idioms and Phrases, Unseen Passage, fill in the blanks. Questions in Maths were of moderate level. The topics from where questions were asked in Maths were SI, CI, Profil & Loss, etc. General Awareness questions were based on current affairs like defence-related questions, govt schemes, etc."

Q:   How can I prepare for AFCAT?
A:
To prepare for AFCAT candidates must have a clear understanding of the syllabus and AFCAT exam pattern. Candidates should brush up on their basics and be clear with the concepts. Candidates must practice previous years question papers. They should solve mock tests to know how to attempt the exam. Candidates must also make a study routine and select the best books for the exam. Revision is the most important part of preparation. Therefore, candidates must revise the topics given in the syllabus properly. The section-wise tips and tricks to prepare for AFCAT exam are given below: English Language Questions in section are asked from Antonyms and Synonyms, English Grammar, Idioms and phrases, Comprehension, etc. Cover the topics by practising at least two passages daily as it helps candidates to work on their comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and phrases. Candidates must practice Antonyms, Synonyms, Misspelt words, idioms and phrases daily. Candidates must also refer to basic grammar books to understand the fundamentals. Reasoning Ability & Military Aptitude Questions are asked from Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning. From Verbal Reasoning, questions are asked from Analogy, Classification, Coding-Decoding, Logical Venn Diagrams, Puzzle Tests, Direction Sense Test. From Non Verbal Reasoning, questions are asked from Series, Analogy, Classification, Completion of incomplete pattern, Hidden figures, Papercutting and folding, Dot situations. To prepare this section, candidates understand the fundamental concepts of reasoning, logic, and basic aptitude. Candidates should be consistent with the practice. Numerical Ability Questions in this section are asked from Decimals, Fractions, Profit & Loss, Average, Percentage, Ratio and Proportion, Speed, Time & Distance, etc. Candidates should write down all the formula in one place so that it helps them during revision. They should work on the topics that have the more weightage. Candidates need to practice Maths daily. General Awareness Candidates must follow the latest news, sports and events. They should read newspapers and magazines to know the latest events.
Q:   How to prepare for AFCAT in 2 months?
A:

Quant is the most scoring section and very basic questions are asked. With just practice, candidates will be able to score good marks. Questions are asked from  Profit and loss, Time and Work, Time Speed and Distance, Percentage, Simplification, Average, Mixtures, SI and CI, etc. For English, candidates must practice RCs, Vocab and Idioms. Candidates must solve five question papers as this will help them to know their strengths and weaknesses in the given subjects or topics. Candidates need to work on their weaknesses. Candidates must revise everything in the last 30 to 31 days leading to the exam. Also focus on taking the mock tests.

Q:   Is the score of 191 in AFCAT decent enough to make it to the merit list?
A:

Yes, a score of 191 is very high, and it is above average score. You will be considered on the merit list if you clear the AFSB interview. The final merit list is prepared based on the marks scored in the online test, AFSB interview, medical test. AFCAT marks are decided based on a number of factors, such as difficulty level, number of vacancies, and number of test-takers. The cut off marks for AFCAT exam are calculated out of 300 whereas it is decided out of 150 marks for EKT. The total marks of the AFCAT exam are 300, out of which you have to score above the cutoff marks. AFCAT cutoff usually ranges from 120 to 150 marks.

Q:   How is AFCAT merit list prepared?
A:

Candidates need to secure the minimum qualifying marks separately in the written exam and AFSB test. Candidates are placed in the order of merit on the basis of the total marks secured by them in the written examination and in the AFSB tests. 10 per cent of the vacancies are reserved for NCC Air Wing Senior Division C Certificate holders in Ground Duty (Technical and Nontechnical) Branches. Allotment of branch is based on number of vacancies, performance in the selection process, medical fitness and the choice given by the candidates. Candidates need to secure the section-wise and overall cut off marks inorder to qualify the online test of AFCAT.
