UGC NET English Exam Analysis (Dec 6)

The National Testing Agency (NTA) successfully conducted the UGC NET exam for English on December 6, 2023. The exam was conducted in one shift 9 am to 12 pm. The overall difficulty level of the paper was moderate as compared to the previous year. Paper 2 comprised questions from the Victorian, Romantic, and Elizabethan Age from the British literature whereas the questions from the Indian literature were from the Post Modernism. On the other hand, Paper 1 was easy. It comprised questions from ICT, teaching aptitude, reasoning, and maths.

University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) or NTA UGC NET is a national-level exam conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for only Assistant Professor or both Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor posts in Indian universities and colleges. The UGC NET 2023 exam will be held for a total of 83 subjects. Until 2021, the NTA UGC NET exam was conducted for 83 subjects.

UGC NET Exam Analysis: English (Shift 1) 

The UGC NET exam for shift 1 got over at 12:00 pm for English. Shiksha visited one of the exam centres in Delhi and took the review of students who had taken the exam. According to their reviews, the difficulty level of Paper 1 was moderate. On the other hand, paper 2 was easy in comparison to the previous cycle. The cultural studies was dominant in Paper 2 whereas the  6 to 7 timeline questions were asked related to authors, books, birth year, etc. The difficulty level of cultural studies was above average as compared to the previous year.

  • Ruchi said, "Paper 1 was easy, and the questions from logical reasoning were dominant in the paper. Paper 2 was moderate, the timeline,  books & author name questions were asked in Paper 2."
  • Shilpa said," The overall exam was moderate. Paper 1 comprised questions from logical reasoning and data interpretation. Paper 2 comprised the question from Indian & British literature. The questions were asked from Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. The author's timeline questions were also present in the paper."
  • Deepika said," Paper 2 was easy as compared to the previous year. Paper 1 was difficult, the question from DI was difficult, percentage questions were easy. Questions from authors like Emily Bronte and Charles Dickens were dominant in the paper."

No. The authority has not released the UGC NET certificate for the December session 2025. The exam is scheduled to be conducted from December 31 to January 7, 2026.

The authority will release the UGC NET certificate on the official website at ugcnet.nta.nic.in and also on the e-certificate portal at ecertificate.nta.ac.in. Candidates can download it by using their login credentials including the application number and password or date of birth.

The UGC NET answer key challenge fee per question is INR 200. It is non refundable whether the challenge is accepted or rejected. It can be paid online via debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI. Challenges made by the candidates will be verified by the panel of subject experts.

No. Candidate must possess a Master's degree with  a minimum of 55% grade score average from a UGC recognised university to apply for the NTA UGC NET exam. Also, if she or he is in the final year of their Master's programme or hold a four year bachelor's degree in specific subjects.

There is no upper age limit to apply for the Assistant Professor positions. But for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), the maximum age limit is 30 years as of June 1 of the exam year. There is also an ahe relaxation provided to the candidates from reserved categories including OBC, SC and ST
