Best Books for Indian Polity and Governance Section

After finishing with the NCERT book, the candidates should start with three things. Firstly, they should start reading the Constitution of India (Bare Act) so they can understand the language and approach of the fundamental law of the land. The constitution is the fundamental law of the land and no other Act can contradict the Constitution of India.

Indian Polity by M. Laxmikanth is essential for the IAS preparation and the candidates must read this book for at least three times to internalise the essential tenets and facts given in the book. The book defines all the Indian procedures and legalities.

The third is the newspaper and its editorial. The Newspapers and the editorial provide the current concourse of the discussion going on in the country. It also gave a sign about the important topic which can be asked in the IAS exam.

See here: How to read the newspaper for IAS Exam?

The majority of the Indian Polity and Governance topics can be covered in the M Laxmikanth book. But we recommend reading the bare act of the constitution along with the book to get an Article-wise clear understanding.

While studying with the Laxmikanth book, the candidates can also refer to the DD Basu book for the Fundamental Rights and Emergency provisions. It will provide a more detailed insight into the concept. The PM Bakshi book will provide a more socialistic outlook on the Constitution of India.

The candidates should refer to the PRS and Rajya Sabha websites to get the details about the Acts and pending bills of the Parliament. These websites provide a multifaceted analysis of the Acts passed and bills. The candidates can form their opinion regarding the topics after getting diverse but relevant information from all the stakeholders.

The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha discussion though important is very lengthy and wastes the time of the candidate. The candidates can refer to the newspaper to get the selected details about the discussion.

The candidates must refer to the NITI Aayog website and its reports. The important detail about the state government programs and their implementation details provides the important study material to write the IAS main answers in the exam.
