IIT Bombay BTech Courses & Fees 2026: Eligibility, Scholarship, Admission, Cutoff, Ranking

Admission to BTech courses in IIT Bombay is subject to fulfiment of the eligibility requirements for JEE Main and JEE Advanced. The students who have passed Class 12 in Science stream with at least 75% aggregate (65% aggregate for SC/ST/PwD) are eligible to apply. Yes, the parents can contact the IIT Bombay admission office and they might get to stay at the guest house. The institute has guest romms in every hostel. To book a room, parents can visit the gymkhana website. If the guest room has been booked in the same hostel as that of the candidate, then keys can be collected directly from the hall manager on payment of respective charges. 

In case, where room is booked in another hostel, then it is advisable to go to the HCU (Hostel Coordinationg unit ) for booking receipt (signed) and then to the hall manager of respective hostel. For the parents, the per day charge is INR 50 (without mattress) and INR 90 (with mattress).

IIT Bombay BTech Application Process 2026

BTech and BTech (Dual Degree) aspirants must fill out the application form for JEE (Main) through the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) (nta.ac.in). 

Entrance Exams

Candidates need to first qualify JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced. Aspirants qualifying both the entrance-exams are required to register for Counselling.

JoSAA Counselling & Seat Allotment

Shortlisted candidates after registering for JoSAA Counselling are offered seat. The seat allotment is conducted after the release of cutoff. 

The schedule of JEE Main 2026 application form has been announced on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. NTA released the JEE Main application form 2026 on October 31, 2025. JEE Main 2026 session 2 application form will be released around last week of January and the last date to apply will be February last week. National Testing Agency NTA has released the syllabus of JEE Main 2026 on the official website. IIT Bombay is one of the top Engineering institutes in the country. It has also successfully grabbed international recogniton as it has been ranked #134 in the QS World Rankings 2027. The course outline of mechanical in IIT Delhi or IIT Bombay is similar and is quite well aligned with the course structure of top ranked international universities and the mechanical is one of the most desired and demanded branches in the IITs. The universities stand on similar QS ranking level and the facility and quality of infrastructure on average is almost the same in both the campuses, IITB has a lake, a pretty larger campus than that of IITD whereas IITD stands in a very desired location of Delhi ( in Hauz Khas) which stands very close to the international airport and various railway stations and is comparatively very green and clean than the outer Delhi. The trends of placement or students going for further studies differ very less and if you are really relying on placements to be a deciding factor, you'll still be in doubt. If we look at the opening and closing ranks of the department in both the colleges, the mechanical in IITB opens before it starts at IITD and also closes some numbers before, but the range is quite same. Many people choose IITB for its past trend or some local variables and similarly people also choose IITD if they aspire to go for civil services as Delhi is the hub for the preparation for UPSC and other civil services and again the accessibility of the nearby regions. I'd say both of the campus stand on the same level if the department is considered, the selection is totally depend on the individual depending on the local variables that affects him/her.

For 2026, cut off was 67 for General category candidates in All India quota for B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering in IIT Bombay - Indian Institute of Technology. Which was the most competitive specialisations amongs others.

The JEE Main cutoff 2026 for admission to BTech CSE at IIT Bombay stood at 67 in the first round for the General AI category. For OBC, the first round closing rank was 60.
