Jamiya Miliya University Delhi was established in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh on October 29, 1920. This was made possible due to the demands of Mahatma Gandhi and Aligarh Muslim University students to create a separate Muslim institution without British influence.
JMI University Delhi moved from Aligarh to Karol Bagh, New Delhi, in 1925. From there, Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi campus shifted to the new establishment at Jamia Nagar, Delhi.
Jamia Millia Islamia finally received the status of a 'Central University' by an act of the Parliament in 1988.

Jamia Milia Islamia’s Mission: The mission values of Jamia New Delhi is to inculcate nationalistic and secularistic values in its students. This helps promote integral development and the brotherhood of citizens in nation-building. Many prominent names in the Nationalist Movement were behind the establishment of Jamia Milia Islamia.
