NIMCET 2026 Cutoffs

There are two types of NIMCET cutoffs:

  • Admission cutoffs which is the opening and closing ranks utilized by individual participating NITs to allocate seats to candidates during various counselling rounds.

  • NIMCET 2026 Qualifying Cutoff which is the minimum marks required to ensure a candidate is not disqualified from the ranking process (e.g., zero or negative marks in Mathematics lead to disqualification).

NIMCET 2026 Admission Cutoff for NITs and IIITs

The admission cutoffs are determined based on seat availability and relative exam difficulty. Top-tier institutes like NIT Tiruchirappalli generally close admissions at higher ranks compared to newer campuses.

NIMCET 2026 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Read to know the NIMCET 2026 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

Q:   Will the institute-wise cut-off ranks be announced for NIMCET?
A:

No, NIMCET does not announce a single, common institute-wise cut-off rank list. It releases a common NIMCET cutoff list. However, NITs can determine their opening and closing ranks for their MCA programs, based on the overall rank, seat availability and applicant pool. Candidates are advised to check the official websites of the individual NITs and IIITs after the final NIMCET results to stay updated on any such event.

Q:   What are the factors on which the NIMCET Cut-Off marks depend?
A:

NIMCET Cut-Off marks are mainly influenced by -

  • Difficulty level of the exam
  • Number of applicants
  • Institute-wise available seats
  • Category-wise reservations
  • Performance of the candidate in the exam
  • Last year's trends
Q:   What are the compulsory subjects in NIMCET?
A:

Some of the subjects, which students must focus while preparing for the NIMCET exam are - Mathematics, Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning, Computer Awareness, and General English.

Q:   If I do not pay the application fee but complete the rest of the NIMCET application process, am I still eligible for the exam?
A:

No. Since you couldn't complete the process, your application will not be accepted. The NIMCET application process will only complete after you have paid the application fee. Make sure that you do not miss any of the required steps of the application process, be it payment of fee or uploading of documents.

Q:   What are the eligibility criteria for NIMCET?
A:

The eligibility criteria for NIMCET are as follows -

Criteria

Details

Nationality

Must be an Indian citizen

Educational Qualification

Bachelor's degree in B.Sc. (Computer Science/IT), BCA, B.Tech/B.E., or any equivalent degree with Mathematics/Statistics as a subject at 10+2 or graduation level

Minimum Marks

At least 60% aggregate or 6.5 CGPA  (55% or 6.0 CGPA for SC/ST/PwD candidates)

Final Year Students

Eligible to apply, but must provide proof of passing before admission

Q:   What if I do not crack the NIMCET?
A:

No need to get disheartened. If by chance you couldn't crack the NIMCET, you can apply for other MCA programs from other private colleges, or take up other MCA entrance exams, or even prepare well to retake the NIMCET the next year. Good thing is that there is no limit on the number of attempts for NIMCET. Additionally, there is no age limit as well.

Q:   What is the qualifying mark in NIMCET?
A:

Candidates securing zero or negative marks either in Mathematics or in Total Marks in NIMCET test are going to be disqualified. Based on the marks obtained by a qualified candidate in NIMCET test, a rank will be allotted by adopting the following criteria.

  • The marks obtained in Mathematics, Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning, Computer Awareness, and English will be summed up. Thus, the maximum weighted marks will be 1000.
  • Ranking will be based on the total weighted marks a candidate obtains.
Q:   Is one month sufficient for NIMCET preparation?
A:

No, one month is not sufficient for NIMCET preparation. You would need to study an extensive syllabus that would need time as well as a lot of effort. However, if you are a BCA student that your college education might help you in your preparation, since the topics of NIMCET and BCA are similar, you would need to brush up on your knowledge. It is recommended to solve previous year NIMCET question papers to make yourself acquainted with the NIMCET exam.

Q:   What should I do if I find any discrepancy in the NIMCET answer keys?
A:

If you find any discrepancy in the NIMCET answer keys, you can raise objections online at nimcet.admissions.nic.in. You would need to submit your objections with supporting proof. For every objection, INR 500 has to be paid online, i.e., through net banking/credit card/debit card. Authorities will not accept the objections if the fee is not paid.

Q:   When should I start preparing for NIMCET?
A:

Ideally, you should start preparing at least six months before the exam date. The NIMCET 2026 exam date has not been announced yet, however, the tentative examination date is around June 2026, making now a perfect time to start preparing for it. NIMCET exam pattern along with the brochure will soon be released on the official website at nimcet.admissions.nic.in.

Q:   Who will release the NIMCET answer key?
A:

The NIMCET is conducted by an individual NIT on a rotational basis every year. So the NIT that is conducting the NIMCET in that year will release the NIMCET answer key. In 2025, the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli conducted the NIMCET and hence, released the answer key.

Q:   How will I get to know about the availability of the NIMCET admit card?
A:

You will get an email as well as an SMS notification about the release date of their admit cards. You will also receive updates to download it. All the candidates are required to print the NIMCET Admit Card on precision printers, only such as Laser Printers (and not on Inkjet printers). You are also advised to preserve the Admit Card (used during the examination) till the entire admission process is complete.

Q:   Can you suggest some good books for the preparation of Numerical Ability for NIMCET?
A:

Here are some recommended books to prepare for the numerical ability section of NIMCET-

  • NCERT Math Textbook for Class 12

  • Quantitative Aptitude by R.S. Aggarwal

  • Numerical Ability & Mathematical Aptitude by A.B. Rao

  • Objective Mathematics by R.D. Sharma
