Notable Alumni of Jamia Millia Islamia

Jamia Millia Islamia has distinguished itself in a variety of sectors over the years. From film actors who entertain us in numerous forms to journalists who provide honest news, from sports to academics, religious scholars to political figures, Jamia Millia Islamia has many notable alumni.

1. Shahrukh Khan: Shahrukh Khan, who gave us great singles like 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge,' 'Kal ho Na Ho,' 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,' and 'My Name Is Khan,' graduated from Hansraj College in Delhi and went on to study mass communication at Jamia Millia Islamia.

2. Mouni Roy: An alumna of Jamia Millia Islamia, an Indian actress who rose to prominence for her appearances in TV programs Mahadev and Naagin. She was also a finalist in the television reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa in 2014. She made her Bollywood debut in the film Gold, opposite Akshay Kumar. Roy will appear in the upcoming film Brahmastra, alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, and Ranbir Kapoor.

3. Nidhi Bisht: Nidhi Bisht is a filmmaker, casting director, writer, and performer. Bisht obtained her LLB degree from Jamia Milia Islamia. She practised law in the Delhi High Court for over a year before leaving to pursue a career in entertainment. She has appeared in Umrika (2014) and Phillauri (2017) and is a well-known face of TVF (The Viral Fever), one of India's most popular streaming platforms for entertaining original web series and engaging videos.

4. Virendra Sehwag: Sehwag is an Indian right-handed batsman, who is the only Indian with two test triple hundreds and one of three Indians to record an ODI double tonne. In 1997, he enrolled in Jamia Millia Islamia for his bachelor's degree. He played in 104 tests for his country, scoring 8,586 runs at an average of 49.34. Sehwag was also a member of the Indian cricket squad that won the World Cup in 2011.

5. Gagan Ajit Singh: Gagan Ajit Singh is an Indian hockey striker and the son of Indian hockey great Ajit Singh. Gagan was the junior hockey team's captain and guided the squad to the junior hockey world cup in 2001. He attended Jamia Millia Islamia and his amazing accomplishments in the national game have made the country proud. In 2002, he received the Arjuna Award for his contributions.

6. Mohammad Najeeb Qasmi: Qasmi is an Islamic Sunni scholar and the founder of Sambhal's Al-Noor public school. Darul-Uloom Deoband, Jamia Milia Islamia, and Delhi University are among his alma maters. Qasmi has authored over 50 books and papers. His website was launched in Riyadh, and he writes for it. In 2015, Qasmi launched Hajj-e-Mabroor to provide reliable information on hajj and umrah.

7. Yasin Mazhar Siddiqi: Siddiqi was a 75-year-old Indian Sunni Muslim scholar and historian who died on September 15, 2020. Among his significant works are 'Tarikh Tezeeb-e-Islami' and 'Prophet Muhammad: A Role Model for Muslim Minorities.' He began as a research assistant in Aligarh Muslim University's history department before becoming a lecturer in 1977 and, later, a professor of Islamic studies in 1991. He earned his BA and B.Ed at Jamia Millia Islamia, as well as his M.Phil and PhD at Aligarh Muslim University.

8. Muzaffar Alam: Muzaffar Alam is a Jamia Millia Islamia-trained historian. He presently teaches at the University of Chicago. Prior to joining the University of Chicago, he was a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University's Centre of Historical Studies, and he has had to visit positions at the Collège de France (Paris), Leiden University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the EHESS (Paris). He teaches about the Dehli Sultanate and the Mughal Empire.

9. Kiran Rao: Kiran Rao is a Hindi film director, producer, and screenwriter who was once married to Bollywood actor Aamir Khan. Kiran got her start in filmmaking by assisting filmmakers with commercials and feature films. Lagaan and Swades by Ashutosh Gowarikar are two examples. Rao co-founded the Paani Foundation in order to combat drought in Maharashtra. She graduated from Sophia College for Women with a concentration in food science. She enrolled in Jamia Millia Islamia after two months of attending the Sophia Polytechnic's Social Communications Media course. There she received her master's degree in mass communication.

10. Kabir Khan: Kabir Khan is a film director, screenwriter, and cinematographer from India. He began his career in documentary films before making his Bollywood debut with Kabul Express. His well-known film as a director is Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Kabir attended Delhi University's Kirori Mal College as well as Jamia Millia Islamia.

11. Arfa Khanum Sherwani: Arfa Khanum Sherwani is a senior editor at 'The Wire' and an Indian journalist. Aligarh Muslim University awarded her a diploma in journalism, while Jamia Millia Islamia awarded her a doctorate. She has previously worked as an anchor for NDTV and Rajya Sabha TV. She has also received Red Ink Awards. She was recently honoured with the Chameli Devi Jain Award for Distinguished Women in Media. Arfa also collaborated with Aamir Khan on his television series Satyamev Jayate. She addresses themes of social justice in relation to religious minorities.

12. Barkha Dutt: She is a columnist and television journalist in India. She attended Jamia Millia Islamia for her master's degree in mass communication. She made an outstanding contribution to journalism, and her report on the Kargil war was well-praised. Barkha Dutt, known as the "Oprah Winfrey of India," was awarded the Padma Shri in 2008.

13. Anjana Om Kashyap: She is a journalist and anchor from India. She is one of the few journalists who were granted an interview with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Anjana graduated from Jamia Millia Islamia with a diploma in journalism. She works as an executive editor at Aaj Tak.

Yes, Mathematics is a compulsory subject for JMI BTech admission. As BTech courses offered at this university are in the specialisations that require applicants to have a foundational understanding of the course. Thus, completing HSC with PCM is necessary for enrollment.
