JEE Main 2026: NTA has launched the JEE Main official website 2026. A notification with details of JEE Main 2026 exam date session 1 and 2, application form schedule and advisory for candidates applying for the exam was released on September 29. As per the notification, NTA will conduct JEE Main 2026 exams in two sessions- session 1 in January 2026 and session 2 in April 2026. JEE Main 2026 Registration session 1 will start in October. Candidates applying for the exam have to ensure that their Aadhar, UDID (for PWD candidates) and EWS/OBC-NCL/SC/ST certificate (for reserved category) is updated and valid.

What is JEE Main Exam?

The Joint Entrance Examination (Main), commonly called JEE Main, is the national-level entrance exam for admission to B.TechBArch, and BPlan courses at NITs, IIITs, CFTIs and many other private Institutions/universities. The JEE Mains is also an eligibility test for JEE Advanced exam. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the JEE Main exam every year in January and April. The exam is conducted online as a computer based test in more than 300 cities across the country and in few cities outside India.

How Many Candidates Register for JEE Mains

More than 10 lakh candidates appear in the JEE Mains exam every year. The NTA releases data on how many candidates registered and appeared in JEE Main every year along with the result. JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2026 - Who can apply?

The NTA has not yet released the JEE Main 2026 eligibility criteria. Students can refer to the previous year's criteria below to understand the conditions they need to fulfil to apply for the exam. The eligibility criteria are as follows.

  • Candidates must be Indian citizens. Foreign Nationals, NRIs, PIOs (Persons of Indian Origin), and OCIs (Overseas Citizens of India) can also apply.
  • Candidates must have completed/ appearing in Class 12.
  • There is No Age limit for appearing in the exam.
  • No minimum marks required in Class 12 to appear in JEE Mains.
  • Candidates can appear in JEE Mains for three consecutive years from the year of passing Class 12.

JEE Main Minimum Age Criteria 

For appearing in the JEE Main 2026, there is no age limit for the candidates. The candidates who have passed the class 12/ equivalent examination in 2024, 2025 or are appearing in 2026, irrespective of their age, can appear in the JEE Main 2026 examination. However, the candidates may be required to fulfill the age criteria of the Institutes to which they are desirous of taking admission.

JEE Main 75% Marks Criteria

There is no requirement of 75% marks to appear in JEE Mains. Candidates can appear in JEE entrance examination without the requirement of any minimum percentage in JEE Main required to appear in JEE Mains. The criteria of 75% marks in class 12 is applicable at the time of admission to NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs. However, many institutes have no minimum marks criteria for admission.

JEE Main State Code of Eligibility

State code of eligibility means the code of the State from where the candidate has passed the Class 12 (or equivalent) qualifying examination, under which the candidate becomes eligible to appear in JEE Main 2026. It is important to note that the State code of eligibility does NOT depend upon the native place or the place of residence of the candidate. For example, if a candidate appears for the Class 12 qualifying examination from an Institution situated in New Delhi and is a resident of Noida, Uttar Pradesh, then the candidate’s State code of eligibility will be Delhi and NOT Uttar Pradesh.

List of Qualifying Exams for JEE Mains

  • As far as academic qualifications are required, candidates must have passed either the 10+2 system from recognized Central or State Boards like CBSE or CISCE; intermediate or pre-university exams; the final examination of the NDA’s Joint Services Wing two-year course; or the Senior Secondary School Examination from NIOS with at least five subjects.
  • Other acceptable qualifications include a 3-year diploma recognized by AICTE or State boards of technical education, GCE A-level exams (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka), the Cambridge High School Certificate, or the International Baccalaureate Diploma from Geneva.
  • For candidates who have completed their Class 12 outside India or a non-listed board, a certificate of equivalence from AIU is mandatory. Additionally, if Class 12 was not a public examination, the candidate should have passed at least one public Board/pre-university exam previously.

JEE Main 2026 Application Form

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will release the JEE Main 2026 Application Form online at its official website- jeemain.nta.nic.in The exact JEE Mains registration date for 2026 has not been announced, but the application process will start in October as per the notification available on the JEE Main official website. While filling the application form, candidates have to provide information about their education (class 10 and 12), address, parents' details, category, exam city preference, and upload a scanned image of their passport-sized photo and signature as per the prescribed format. Candidates of OBC-NCL or EWS category need to provide details of the certificate issuing person and date of issue in the application form. The PwD/PwBD candidates need to upload their category certificates as well.

Candidates will have to pay the JEE Main application form fees, which is INR 1000 for general category candidates, while for OBC candidates it is INR 800, and for SC it is INR 500. The payment of application fees has to be done online through credit/debit card, internet banking/UPI.

Candidates applying for JEE Main must have the following documents

  • Scanned image of photo and signature
  • Credit/debit card or Internet banking details for application fee payment
  • Class 10 and 12 mark sheet (class 12 admit card in case appearing for the exam)

How to Apply for JEE Mains 2026

The step-by-step process to fill the JEE Main application form 2026 Session 2 is

Step 1- Open the JEE Main 2026 official website

Step 2- Click on the "New Candidate Registration" link

Step 3- Candidates have to enter the required details like name, parents name, email ID, mobile number, address

Step 4- Once the candidate completes JEE Main Registration, they’ll need to fill the application form by filling details about category, class 10 and 12 education, parents name and address, paper for which appearing (BTech or BArch/BPlan), exam city preference.

Step 5- Students need to upload scanned image of photo, signature, class 10 certificate and PwD/PwBD certificate (If applicable)

Step 6- Pay the fees online using credit card/ debit card/ UPI or internet banking

Step 7- JEE Main application form will be submitted automatically once the candidate pays application fees

Candidates will receive the acknowledgment slip through email and SMS mentioning details about their application form. Students must download the application form and keep it safe.

JEE Main Application Form Correction 2026

The facility of JEE Main 2026 application correction is provided to rectify the mistakes, if any, in the form submitted by the candidates. JEE Main correction window 2026 will be available after the completion of application proecss. Candidates are allowed to modify details in their filled form by login to the website. Candidates must note that only certain information like category, address, photo, and signature will be available for corrections during the facility. 

How to Make Changes in JEE Main Application Form 2026

  • Open the JEE Main official website jeemain.nta.nic.in
  • Login using your application number and password
  • Click on JEE Main correction link
  • JEE Main 2026 application form will be displayed on screen
  • Select the information that needs to be modified and make the required changes
  • Click on "Confirm and Save" button after making changes

Candidates should download and take a printout of their JEE Main application form 2026 after making the changes.

The National Testing Agency will soon release the official JEE Mains 2026 Syllabus PDF. Candidates can refer here the previous year JEE exam Syllabus to prepare for the exam. Candidates can download the JEE Main syllabus from the table below or from the official website. The NTA JEE Mains syllabus is based on class 11 and 12 topics, so to have an edge over the competition, candidates must study from the NCERT books of class 11 and 12.

JEE Main 2026 Exam Pattern

The NTA is yet to release details on the exam pattern for JEE Mains 2026. As per last year's pattern, the JEE Main exam will be conducted online for all three papers- Paper 1 for BE/BTech, Paper 2A for BArch, and Paper 2B for BPlan. The total duration of the exam is 3 hours. Also, as per the JEE Main marking scheme, each question is of 4 marks and 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer.

As per the JEE Main exam pattern for Paper 1, there will be 75 questions of 4 marks each in Paper 1, 25 each from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. In Paper 2A, 25 questions will be from Maths, 50 from General Aptitude and 2 from drawing. JEE Main Admit Card 2026

NTA will release the JEE Main Admit Card 2026 around 2 days before the exam date.  Candidates can use their NTA JEE Mains login credentials to download their JEE Main hall ticket to appear in the exam. Candidates must take a printout of their NTA JEE Main Admit Card, preferably a colour printout, and carry it along with one photo ID proof (Aadhar/PAN/any other government-issued ID) and one passport-size photo (the same photo uploaded in the application form) to the exam centre.

It is advised that the candidates must review all the information on their admit card after downloading the NTA JEE Main admit card 2026. Candidates must get in touch with the examination authority in case of any discrepancy in the admit card. Candidates must carry a photo ID card along with the JEE Main 2026 admit card to the examination hall. Candidates need to download and take the printout of their JEE Mains 2026 admit card.

JEE Main Exam City Intimation Slip 2026

The National Testing Agency releases the JEE Main exam city slip a few days before the release of admit cards. JEE Main city intimation slip gives details about the exam date and city of examination of candidate. The JEE Main city intimation slip will be available for download online from the official website, and candidates can download it using their login credentials - application number and date of birth. The slip indicates the exam city allotted to the candidate and is released before the admit card. The city intimation slip must not be confused with the admit card, as the admit card is released separately after a few days. The admit card will consist of details such as the candidate's name, roll number, exam center address, guidelines, JEE Mains question paper details, and date and time. The JEE Main 2026 city intimation slip link will be available on the website jeemain.nta.nic.in.

JEE Main Answer Key 2026

The NTA releases the JEE Main Answer Key PDF on its website within 2-3 days after the completion of the exam. First, the JEE Main Provisional Answer Key is released., where Candidates having any objection to the provisional JEE Main Answer key PDF could submit their grievances online within the specified dates. To raise objections, they will have to pay INR 200 per question to raise objections. 

The grievances submitted by the candidates will be reviewed by the NTA post which the final answer key is released. Along with JEE Main answer key download, NTA also releases the JEE Main Response Sheet 2026 and question paper PDF. The link for JEE Main Answer key response sheet, papers are available through JEE Main login on the website.

How to Download NTA JEE Main Answer Key 2026

Candidates can follow the below-mentioned steps to download answer key

Step 1- Open the JEE Main website

Step 2- Click on JEE Main answer key link

Step 3- Login using your JEE Main 2026 application number and password/date of birth

Step 4- The answer key will be displayed on the screen along with response sheet

Step 5- Download the answer key and take its printout.

The final answer key, released after reviewing the objections submitted by the candidates will be used for calculating the result/score of the candidates. The final answer key is not subject to the candidates' challenge/submission of grievances.

NTA will declare the JEE Mains Result around 10 days after the exam. JEE Main Result scorecard will  have details of the candidate's normalized percentile score in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, and aggregate percentile score in all three subjects. To download the scorecard, candidates will have to use their application number and password at the JEE Mains login at the official website. Candidates must download the JEE Main result and keep it safe for admission purposes. Along with the JEE Mains Result, NTA also announces the JEE Main Cut off Percentile, minimum marks in JEE Mains to qualify for JEE Advanced, and the JEE Main toppers list with All India Rank. Candidates who secure marks above the JEE Main cutoff will be eligible to appear in JEE Advanced for admission to IITs.

NTA will release the JEE Mains cutoff 2026 along with the session 2 result in April. JEE Main cutoff is the minimum percentile score that candidates have to score to qualify for appearing in JEE Advanced. JEE Main cutoff is different for various categories. Candidates must note that there are NO minimum marks or cutoffs that students need to obtain to pass the JEE Main exam. The score that candidates get in JEE Main decides the All India Rank and admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs is purely based on the All India Rank. JEE Main Counselling 2026

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) organizes the admission process collectively for JEE Main and Advanced qualified candidates. There are total 119 institutions for which JoSAA organizers the counselling process- 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) Shibpur, 26 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and 38 other Government-Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs).

Only JEE Main and JEE Advanced qualified candidates are eligible to participate in the JoSAA counselling. For participating in IITs admission, candidates must have JEE Advanced scores whereas for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, candidates must JEE Main qualified. To participate in the counselling, candidates have to register online at the JoSAA portal and fill their choices of preferred colleges and courses for the allotment of seats. The schedule of JoSAA 2026 will be announced in June.

JoSAA Counselling Process: Step-by-Step Guide

The JoSAA counselling process consists of several stages which includes.

Registration is the first step. In this stage, candidates have to register on the official JoSAA portal using JEE Main/Advanced credentials.

Choice Filling is to be done after completing the registration process. In this stage, candidates can select their preferred courses and institutes.

Seat Allotment: The third step is choice locking, where selections must be finalized and saved for reference, and based on the candidate's rank, preferences, and seat availability, seat allocation takes place.

Seat Confirmation by Candidates/ Online Fee Payment/Institute Reporting: After seat allocation, candidates will have to confirm their admission by selecting the freeze/float option. If candidates select the Freeze/Float option, they have to submit the college fees online, upload their documents and report to the allotted institute.  In case candidate selects the slid option, they will proceed to the next round.

Yes. Students with valid JEE Main scores can apply for admissions through the WBJEE counselling. However, these students will be eligible for allotment only in the 10% approved seats offered by the self-financing colleges and institutes participating in the state-level counselling.
