GATE qualifying cutoff is the institute eligibility cutoff, and on the other hand, the GATE admission cutoff ensures a call for admission at IITs, NITs, IITs, and CFTIs. Check below in detail:
GATE Qualifying Cutoff: It is the minimum mark a candidate must score so that he or she is eligible for admission. But this does not mean that a candidate is selected for admission. Actually, it is fixed before the announcement of GATE results. It is announced by the conducting IIT and available on GOAPS. It includes qualifying marks for each paper.
Admission GATE Cutoffs: It is the final opening and closing rank score fixed by the participating institutes for the selection of candidates. It is to be noted here that meeting the admission GATE cutoff does not mean that the candidates will be selected for admission. It is fixed after the GATE result date. It is declared by the individual participating institutes and available on their respective counselling portals (CCMT/ COAP).
GATE 2022 Cutoff (Expected)
GATE participating institutes decide their cutoff for admission of candidates to a course. GATE cutoff is the minimum marks that test-l need to score to be eligible for admission to various postgraduate and research level programmes offered by the participating institutes. Students can check the GATE 2022 Expected cutoff in the table. All applicants must note that the below information can be different from the actual cutoff of the exam.

Candidates who will qualify cutoff for GATE in their respective papers can participate in the CCMT counselling for admission to IIITs, NITs, and CFTIs; and COAPS for admission to IITs. Besides admission to postgraduate programs in IITs, NITs, IISc and other engineering colleges in India, the GATE score is also used for PSU recruitment through GATE.
The authority revises the GATE cutoff every year. The GATE 2025 cutoff will be released along with the result. Although the cutoff might remain the same for two consecutive years, the conducting IIT releases a revised cutoff every year. An aspirant cannot qualify for the exam on the basis of the previous year's GATE cutoff. The number of applicants for the GATE exam varies every year. Therefore, on average, around one million students register for the exam. These students came from different educational backgrounds, like engineering, Science, and mathematics. Basically, GATE is a gateway for those candidates who want to take admission into several postgraduate programs in engineering, technology, and Science fields offered by prestigious institutes, including IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other universities across the country. Also secures employment in public sector undertakings that recruit candidates based on their GATE score. The barcode present in the GATE admit card 2026 carries the candidate's information. It is required for a faster verification process and fraud prevention. So, make sure it does not get tampered. Carry multiple copies in case your GATE 2026 hall ticket is torn or tampered.
