What is GAT-B?

GAT-B, or Graduate Aptitude Test- Biotechnology is an All-India Entrance Examination to test the eligibility of Indian Nationals for admission to postgraduate Biotechnology programs and allied areas at participating institutions in India. Through GAT-B, candidates can get admission to the following programs:

  • MSc Biotechnology and allied areas

  • MTech Biotechnology and allied areas

  • MSc Agricultural Biotechnology and 

  • MVSc Animal Biotechnology

BET (Biotechnology Eligibility Test) Exam on the other hand is a national qualifying examination for admission to Doctoral Research Fellowships under the DBT-Junior Research Fellowships Programme. GAT-B 2026 Counselling and Admission

The National Testing Agency does not conduct GAT-B or BET counselling. The NTA is only responsible for hosting the exam and result declaration. The counselling and seat allocation are handled individually by the participating institutions and universities listed under GAT-B and BET exam. 

How to participate in the GAT-B Counselling?

To participate in the counselling process of GAT-B 2026, candidates will have to first download their GAT-B result scorecard and apply at the respective DBT-supported institutions. 

Documents Required for GAT-B Counselling 2026

Candidates need to keep following documents ready for GAT-B and BET counselling and reporting to the allotted institute:

  • Two self-attested copies of matriculation, higher secondary pre-university of Indian School Certificate or Senior School Certificate (10+2) or an equivalent examination centre, showing age and date of birth in the certificate

  •  Character certificate

  • Statement of marks obtained during their academics

  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degree certificates

  • Valid ID proof and six copies of photographs

  • Category certificates

  • Migration certificate

  • GAT-B 2026 application form, admit card, and GAT-B scorecard

NOTE: GATE-qualified candidates are eligible for BET admission. They will come under category-II admission process. 

The National Testing Agency offers around 1316 DBT-sanctioned in 79 DBT-supported postgraduate programmes in Biotechnology/ Allied Areas through the Graduate Aptitude Test-Biotechnology.

GAT-B 2026 Result

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Biotechnology result is prepared in the form of merit list. It determines the qualifying status of the applicant. The NTA declares result in merit list and rankcard/scorecard format. The cutoff list include details, such as application number, GAT-B roll number, candidate’s name, category, GAT-B scores, and percentage. 

How to check GAT-B and BET 2026 Result?

The result is declared on the basis of final answer key. To evaluate scores, the authorities use the GAT-B exam pattern. Candidates can download their GAT-B and BET scorecards following the steps mentioned below:

  • Go to the official website: exams.nta.nic.in

  • Click on the “Download Scorecard” link

  • Select the exam name, and enter application number, password, and security pin.

  • The rankcard will be displayed on the screen

  • Check details, and download the scorecard and take printout

Note: Candidates must note that the National Testing Agency does not allow re-checking or re-evaluation for the GAT-B/BET result 2026.

GAT-B 2026 Analysis

The Graduate Aptitude Test- Biotechnology and Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET) was conducted on May 17 in two shifts. The exam was conducted across 54 cities at 79 centres online. GAT-B 2026 Admit Card

The NTA has issued GAT-B 2026 and BET-exam admit card a few days before the GAT-B 2026 exam date. First, the authorities released the city intimation slip, then admit card a few days after. Candidates appearing for the exam must carry their GAT-B hall ticket 2026 along with mentioned documents.

GAT-B City Intimation Slip 2026

Before releasing the admit card, the authorities issues GAT-B city intimation slip. For 2026, the city intimation slip has been released. Candidates must note that city intimation slip is not admit card. It is just advanced information to inform student about where their test city is located, so that they can make their travel arrangements accordingly.

Graduate Aptitude Test-Biotechnology exam comprises of 2 sections, A and B

  • Section "A" consists of 60 MCQs. Each correct answer carry one mark. For incorrect answer, 0.5 mark will be deducted
  • Section "B" consists of 100 MCQs of 3 marks each. Students have to attempt only 60 questions out of 100. There is negative marking of 1 mark for incorrect responses

BET 2026 Exam Pattern

BET 2026 exam dates have been updated on official website. The time duration to complete question paper is three hours and is divided into two sections -

  • Section "A" consists of 50 MCQs of 10+2 level in subjects. Each correct answer carries 1 mark, and there is a negative marking -1 for wrong answer
  • Section "B" consists of 150 questions (MCQs) with questions based on biotechnology. Candidates have to attempt at least 50 questions. Each question is of 3 mark and there is negative marking of 1 mark for incorrect response

GAT-B/BET Exam Syllabus 2026

Candidates need to be fully aware of the GAT B and BET syllabus before filling out the GAT B application form. Candidates appearing for GAT-B exam 2026 must ensure that they start their preparation right from their academics. Here are some preparation tips that can help students to get good score in the exam. 

  • First, understand the exam pattern and go through the syllabus carefully
  • Since the GAT-B paper has negative marking, therefore it's better to avoid guesswork
  • Focus mainly on concept-building. 60 questions (objective-based) are compulsory to attempt. These questions are 10+2 level. Try solving these questions with accuracy.
  • Attempt full-length question papers and solve GAT-B PYQs daily to improve time management skills. 
  • Keep at least two months for revision and make short notes for last-day revision

Candidates must note that the authorities do not release question paper. First, the authorities release provisional answer key, which can be challenged. To object, candidates had to pay INR 200 per question (non-refundable). After challenge, the authorities released GAT-B final answer key, based on which the results are announced. GAT-B 2026 Eligibility and Application

Candidates appearing for the GAT-B 2026 exam must go through eligibility criteria properly. If a candidate does not meet the criteria, then he/she will not be eligible for admission. Check criteria details of GAT-B and BET exam below:

GAT-B 2026 Eligibility Criteria

  • Must have Indian nationality
  • Hold a bachelor's degree from a recognised university in any of the following: biological/physical, veterinary and fishery sciences, agriculture, pharmacy, engineering or technology.
  • Minimum qualifying mark is 60% for general and 55% for reserved
  • Candidates with a four-year BSc (physician assistance course) or medicine or BDS can also apply.
  • The maximum age to apply is 28 years. For reserved category, age limit is upto 5 years for male and 3 years for female candidates.
  • The eligibility for BET remains the same. However, for education qualification, the applicant must have a bachelor's or master's degree in any discipline of Life sciences or Biotechnology or any other allied areas of Biology.

  • GAT-B 2026/BET registration - Interested candidates must register online entering their personal, mobile number and email ID
  • Filling GAT-B application form - Once registration is complete, candidates must fill in their personal, educational, and communication details
  • Uploading documents - After entering details, candidates must proceed to upload their photograph and signature
  • Make fee payment - Lastly, navigate to the payment section and pay registration fees

The GAT-B 2026 application form fee is INR 1300/- (for General-UR/OBC-NCL/EWS category) and INR 650/- for (SC/ST/PwD) candidates
