According to the NEET 2025 analysis, the difficulty level of the exam was higher than in the past few years. Hence, the NEET 2025 cutoff scores are lower than last year. Similarly, the NEET cutoff for MBBS and BDS admission for 2025 is also expected to be lower than the last few years.

Q:   When did NTA release the official cutoff for NEET 2025?
A:

The official NEET 2025 cutoff is released by NTA along with the NEET 2025 result, which has been released on June 14, 2025. The NEET 2025 cutoff or the qualifying score for each candidate category is mentioned on the NEET 2025 scorecard. The NEET cutoff refers to the minimum score a candidate has to obtain to qualify for the NEET counselling process. The NEET cutoff 2025 decreased from that of last year as the difficulty level of the exam was higher and thenumber of test takers was lower.

Q:   What is the NEET cutoff percentile for General category candidates?
A:

NEET 2025 cutoff percentile for general category students is 50th percentile. Based on this, the NEET cutoff score 2025 for the General category is 686-144. The NEET 2025 cutoff for the General category candidates of the Physically Handicapped (PH) or the Persons with Benchmark Disability (PWBD) category candidates is 45 percentile. The subsequent NEET cutoff marks for this category is 143-127. Although the NEET cutoff percentile for the General category has remained the same, the cutoff score reduced from that of last year. This is due to factors such as tougher difficulty level, and lower number of test-takers.

Q:   What is the cut off for NEET Government colleges?
A:

The NEET cutoff score or ranks for Government medical colleges vary for each year and rounds. Moreover, the cutoff for the top ranked colleges is higher than that of the Government colleges with comparatively lower scores. For the General category, NEET cutoff for Government colleges is generally above a score of 700 or above. For some Government colleges with a comparatively lower rank, there might be multiple rounds of NEET counselling and the final round cutoff may be around 450-500. Candidates must note that the NEET cutoff marks for Government medical colleges mentioned here is indicative and absolute. The cutoff marks and ranks change every year and vary based on factors such as number of seats, number of eligible candidates, number of participants in the counselling round, to name a few.

While it is difficult to predict the exact NEET 2025 cutoff, based on the expert predictions and assessing the factors, this article of Shiksha brings the NEET 2025 expected qualifying cutoff, as well as the previous years’ NEET cutoff for MBBS and BDS courses.

Factors Deciding NEET 2025 Cutoff

The NEET 2025 cutoff, or the qualifying cutofff or the pass marks will be based on the following factors:

  • Total number of candidates who appear for the examination: This year, the total number of candidates appearing for NEET 2025 is 22.09 lakh, which is approximately three lakh less compared to last year. Hence, the competition has decreased from last year.
  • Difficulty level of the examination: As stated above, the overall difficulty level of the exam has increased compared to the previous years. Hence, the NEET 2025 cutoff has gone down.
  • Performance of the candidates: Owing to the high difficulty level of the exam, the highest marks obtained by candidates is not 720, but 686. In that scenario, the NEET 2025 expected cutoff is lower.
  • Number of seats available: The total number of seats available for MBBS and BDS courses is 1,18,190 and 27,868, respectively. As compared to last year, the total number of MBBS seats has increased.
  • NEET cutoff for previous years: Last year, the difficulty level of NEET was moderate to tough. As compared to this year, the difficulty level of the exam was very high. Accordingly, the NEET 2025 cutoff is expected to go lower. Incidentally, the NEET 2024 cutoff was decreased by two marks after the retest was conducted.
