Medical aspirants and students are expressing different viewpoints and opinions after the Supreme Court has passed judgment on the NEET seat reservation case on January 7. Student Reactions on NEET UG Counselling 2021 SC Verdict

NEET UG counselling 2021 dates will be announced soon by the Medical Counselling Committee as the much-awaited judgment on the NEET seat reservation criteria case is out. The Supreme Court of India on January 7 has upheld the validity of OBC reservation in the NEET counselling and admission process. This has paved the way for conducting the NEET 2021 counselling. While the NEET PG 2021 counselling date has already been announced, the NEET UG counselling dates will be announced shortly.

As per the verdict, MCC has notified the seat reservation criteria for the 15 per cent All India Quota (AIQ) seats given below:

1. Scheduled Caste (SC) – 15 per cent

2. Scheduled Tribe (ST) – 7.5 per cent

3. Persons with Disabilities (PwD) – Horizontal Reservation as per NMC norms – 5 per cent

4. Other Backward Class (OBC) Non-Creamy Layer as per the Central OBC List – 27 per cent

5. Economically Weaker Section (EWS) – as per Central Government Norms – 10 per cent

The MCC notification dated January 7 states, “Counselling schedule for NEET PG & UG 2021 counselling will soon be uploaded on Official website of MCC, DGHS.”

Even though the verdict has finally been passed by the apex court, the delay in the NEET counselling process has caused anxiety among students who are distressed about the impact of the delay. There is a mixed reaction among students regarding the verdict as well. While some are happy that finally the road is clear for announcing the NEET counselling dates, others are disappointed with the unnecessary delay caused due to the court hearings and some are disappointed with the verdict.

Students Waiting for NEET UG 2021 Counselling Dates Announcement

Some students have heaved sighs of relief after the judgment with the anticipation of the NEET counselling 2021 dates to be announced soon.

While others are eagerly waiting for the NEET UG 2021 counselling dates as the NEET PG 2021 counselling process will commence on January 12.

Impact of Delay in NEET UG Counselling 2021

On the other hand, there are some medical aspirants who are worried about the impact of delay in the NEET counselling process.

Disappointed With SC Decision on Upholding Reservation

Some students or stakeholders have expressed their disappointment with the SC verdict and the overall reservation scheme.

Some have doubted the merit of the students belonging to the reserved category may not be at per with a highly critical course like Medical.

 

 

MCC had earlier announced that there will be four rounds of NEET counselling this year, including a Stray-Vacancy round. The duration of the counselling process is estimated to be around three months. Hence, the classes for MBBS , BDS and other UG Medical courses are likely to commence in May. The NEET 2021 counselling process for various states for the 85 per cent state quota seats are underway.
