Shiksha spoke to students of different cities after JAM exam was over today to know how their exam went. A majority of students who took the MSc entrance exam shared that the exam was of moderate difficulty level.

IIT JAM 2018: Difficulty Level

Aditya Pran Boruah who gave JAM Chemistry paper shared, “My paper went okay. It was of moderate difficulty level. Out of all the sections in the exam, I found NAT to be the easiest followed by MSQs and MCQs. I was able to complete my paper on time.”

As per Aman Kumar who appeared for Geology paper, “My paper went good although it was of medium difficulty level. For me, NAT questions were the easiest followed by MCQs and MSQs.” Further talking about time management in exam, Aman said, “I found Geology paper to be quite lengthy. I left 11 questions in the exam due to lack of time. But I am confident that I will clear the exam. And, if I do so I want to secure admission in any of the IITs.”

Shubham Patel gave IIT JAM Chemistry paper for the second time. He said, “My paper went fine. I found multiple select questions to be really tough and tricky. But difficulty level of MCQs was lesser than MSQs. And, I found NAT questions to be easiest.

Another student, Neha Rajput took JAM Mathematics as well as Mathematical Statistics papers. She revealed, “I found JAM Mathematics paper tough. Moreover, time management turned out to be a big problem for me. I could attempt only 50 questions due to lack of time. Among all the sections, I found NAT to be the toughest. Rest two sections, MCQs and MSQs were average in terms of difficulty.” Further talking about how her Mathematical Statistics paper went, she said, “The paper of Mathematical Statistics went much better than Mathematics paper. I could attempt almost all the questions and was able to manage my time well.”

Ravi Mahla held similar views to Neha regarding Mathematics paper when he shared, “My paper went good. But due to shortage of time I could attempt only 49 questions.” Talking about the section-wise difficulty of the exam, Ravi revealed, “I found Integral Calculus questions to be most difficult and Algebra questions to be easiest.” He further said, “Multiple select questions were extremely easy and multiple choice questions were the most difficult. Difficulty level of MSQs was average.”

Shivam Sinha took JAM Physics paper. He said, “My paper went good. Out of all the sections I found questions from NAT section little tricky. Rest two sections, MSQs and MCQs were moderate in terms of difficulty level.”

IIT JAM 2018: Exam Pattern

As per Aditya Pran Boruah, JAM exam pattern was exactly the same as mentioned by IIT Bombay on the official website. However, he shared, “as compared to previous years’ papers I found 2018 Chemistry paper to be more difficult.”

Aman Kumar held similar views to Aditya when he said, “I have read all previous years’ papers of IIT JAM. As compared to past papers, this year’s paper was little tougher.”

Shubham Patel also stated, “This was my second attempt of JAM Chemistry paper. As compared to previous year’s exam, 2018 paper was difficult. However, JAM 2018 exam pattern was exactly the same as mentioned on the official website.” Even as per Neha, “Previous years’ papers were easier as compared to 2018 paper.”

IIT JAM 2018: Computer Based Experience

According to Aman, his experience of giving JAM as an online test was good. “In fact, I always find computer-based tests easier as compared to offline exams,” said Aman.

Shubham who appeared for JAM Chemistry paper also revealed, “My experience of giving a CBT was good. There were no technical glitches in the exam.” According to Neha “I have given many online tests before and the experience has always been good.”
