
IIT JAM 2026 exam centre cities have been released by IIT Bombay, exam officials, on their official website. JAM 2026 exam centres provide options for the test takers where they can choose their preferred nearest cities to the correspondence address for the IIT JAM 2026 examination.
The IIT JAM 2026 exam schedule has also been released by the exam officials. The exam will be held on February 15, 2026, across the nation. The official website informs that there could be one or more IIT JAM exam centres in one city. While filling out the JAM 2026 application form, candidates need to select three preferences as the JAM 2026 exam centres. The registration link has been activated on September 5, 2025. Candidates are requested to choose the nearby examination cities so that at the examination time they do not need to travel far distances. However, it may be noted that the first two exam cities should be from the same zone.
The exact centres for the IIT JAM exam details will be mentioned on the JAM admit cards of candidates. In the past, two cities were added to the list of IIT JAM exam centres, which were Haldwani (Uttarakhand) and Port Blair (Andaman & Nicobar). Candidates will have to select the IIT JAM exam centre city while filling out the application form. They will have to enter as many as two exam cities in preferential order. NTA will try to allot the exam centre according to candidates preferences. However, the final decision will be made by the exam authorities.
Candidates has to follow the steps given below to select the exam city of JAM 2025:
1. Visit the JAM 2025 website.
2. In the Exam City Preference section of the JAM 2024 application form, select three cities in preferential order.
3. Complete the application process by paying the requisite application fee. The exam city preference can be changed during the application correction window.
The advance intimation of exam city slip is the precursor to the admit card. In this document, candidates will only be intimated about the city where their exam centre has been allotted. The IIT JAM exam is conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode. This means that the exam is taken on a computer, and the questions and answers are displayed on the screen. Candidates use a mouse or keyboard to select their answers.

JAM 2025 Examination for all the Test Papers will be conducted as a Computer Based Test (CBT) where the candidates will be shown the questions in a random sequence on a computer screen.
Section - A contains a total of 30 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) involving 10 questions of one mark each and 20 questions of two marks each. Each MCQ has four choices out of which only one choice is the correct answer. Candidates can mark their answer by clicking one of the choices. A wrong answer will result in negative marks. For each wrong answer to 1 mark
questions, 1/3 mark will be deducted and similarly for each wrong answer to 2 marks questions, 2/3 mark will be deducted.
IIT JAM 2025 examination is scheduled to be held on February 2, 2025 across the various JAM 2025 exam centres. The exam will be conducted in two sessions:
- Session 1: 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
- Session 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM
Candidates will have to attempt all three sections of the exam in the allotted time. A candidate can appear in either ONE or TWO Test Paper (s). However, a candidate can appear in two Test Papers only if they are not scheduled in the same session
IIT JAM Admit Card 2025 has been released on January 6, 2025. Candidates who have successfully filled out and submitted the IIT JAM 2025 application form can download the JAM 2025 admit card by visiting the IIT JAM official website.
IIT JAM 2025 admit card will be available in online mode on the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) portal. IIT JAM 2026 Shift Timings
IIT Bombay will conduct the IIT JAM 2026 exam across eight zones on February 15, 2026, in two shifts for seven MSc programmes offered by IITs and other JAM 2026 result-sharing institutes. How to Select IIT JAM 2026 Exam Centre?
Candidates, at the time of application, will need to specify their first, second and third choice cities of examination.
- The choice of examination city will also determine the zone.
- The second and third choice cities of examination will also have to be indicated from the same zone as the first city.
- If any of the selected cities of examination cannot be allotted to a candidate for operational reasons, they will be assigned an alternative city within the same zone.
- The selection of zones and cities of examination will be made at the time of applying online by using the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS).
Tip: Try to select exam city centres closer to where you live to avoid travelling lengthy distances, taking into consideration that all preferred choices are selected from the same zone determined by the first city selection. Also, It is advised that you keep checking the IIT JAM 2026 website to see if there are any changes to the list of examination cities.
Permissible Items at IIT JAM 2026 Exam Centres
Candidates at the IIT JAM 2026 exam centres will be permitted to bring the following items:
IIT JAM 2026 admit card
Valid photo identification card
Copies of passport-size photos (few)
Transparent water bottle
50 ml hand sanitiser bottle
Fruits or medicines (only for diabetic candidates)
It should be noted, this list may vary from year to year. Candidates are encouraged to frequently refer to the IIT JAM official website for all recent permissible items. Also, candidate should arrive early before the start time of the exam to allow for enough time to check in and complete the security processes.
Non-permissible Items at IIT JAM 2025 Exam Centre
The following items or objects will not be allowed to be carried to the IIT JAM 2026 exam centres.
- Stationery items such as test-based material (written/printed), papers, notes, Pencil box, pouches, geometry box, pen, scale/ruler, eraser, etc.
- Electronic devices such as calculators, cameras, electronic pens, scanners, etc.
- Accessories such as bags, belts, caps, goggles, wallets, etc.
- Devices used for communication, such as mobile phones, smart watches, Bluetooth, fitness bands, earphones, pager, etc.
- Eatables (packed or home-cooked), thermos, etc.
Candidates are also not allowed to carry any food or drinks inside the exam centre, with the exception of a transparent water bottle and 50 ml sanitiser bottle.
