SEED 2027 Syllabus - Candidates appearing in SEED 2027 must consult the SEED syllabus. It includes questions from the following topics: Visualisation, Observational, perceptual & reasoning abilities, Creative & problem-solving abilities, and Application of basic knowledge of Science & Mathematics. Q:   What is the duration of SEED Entrance Exam at SIU Pune?
A: 

SEED Entrance Exam is of 60 minutes and will have 60 questions. The test will be conducted online in computer based mode. The test will be of one hour long and will be conducted between 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on the test day.

Q:   When will the exam pattern of SEED be released?
A: 

The exam pattern for the SEED exam is released for B.Des. It is released online at the official website of the Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) - sid.edu.in. Candidates need to follow the updated exam pattern when preparing for the SEED exam.

Q:   Is there negative marking in SEED?
A: 

There is no negative marking in SEED. So, even if candidates make any wrong attempts, no marks will be deducted. SEED question paper will include a total of 60 questions that candidates have to attempt in 60 minutes. Each question will carry +1 mark.

SEED Syllabus is such that this Design Aptitude Test would have questions on design-related topics. SEED exam evaluates aspirants on the basis of their aptitude in design. Aspirants can go through indicative topics from which questions might be asked in SEED.

SEED Syllabus: Visualisation

Understanding and visualization of simple and complex 2D & 3D geometric shapes, their manipulations, and spatial relationships through representations in pictorial and geometric forms.

SEED Syllabus: Observational, perceptual and reasoning abilities

Ability to read and see objects and information beyond obvious details, make connections, make comparisons, form opinions, and draw meanings & conclusions. Analyze your observations, express your point of view, and present in a systematic and structured manner.

SEED Syllabus: Creative and problem-solving abilities

Ability to visualize and relate images around us. Ability to identify a problem and attempt to provide solutions.

SEED Syllabus: Application of basic knowledge of Science and Mathematics

Observing the application of basic principles of science and mathematics taught up to the 10th standard in the day-to-day activities & objects and finding interesting relevance.

SEED Syllabus: Art, craft, culture, design, and environment

General awareness of Art, Craft, Culture, Design, and Environment in India as well as in a global context. Various topics and subtopics related to people, material, tools, techniques, issues & concerns, influences, period, and contemporary trends.

SEED Syllabus 2027: Portfolio Presentation

Candidates who qualify in the written exams will have to upload a portfolio as part of the Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI)

  • The works must be compiled in a PowerPoint presentation of a maximum of 15 slides. The candidate has to convert this into a PDF of up to 5 Mb.
  • If the candidate has a homemade portfolio, the candidate has to take pictures of the best work, compile it in a PPT, and upload the PDF format on the official link.
  • The submitted portfolios will be reviewed by a panel of interviewers. 

What should the Portfolio include?

The portfolio for SID 2027 should include the following items:

  1. Your best works showcase your skills, interests, and passion in a variety of fields and techniques 
  2. Instead of including run-of-the-mill works, include items that will help you to stand out from the crowd. 
  3. Sketches, mixed media illustrations, and digital work
  4. Collaging of images, 2D and 3D articles
  5. Photography
  6. 3D objects like sculpture, fabric products, gadgets, art-inspired products, etc

You may be asked to draw/sketch during the PI round. So, it is recommended that you carry stationery items like a pen, paper, and a pencil.

As per information on SID website, the institute does not promote or is aware of any coaching classes/preparatory classes. So, the candidate can decide whether they want to join any coaching institute or not. Note that there are many coaching institutes that offer preparation classes for exams like NIFT, NID DAT, etc.

Candidates can also download online study material after paying the charges.

SEED Syllabus 2027: Personal Interaction

In SEED Personal Interaction round, candidates who will be shortlisted on the basis of their portfolios will be called for final selection.

  • The panel will ask questions related to the programme they have chosen and also about the portfolios submitted by the candidate.
  • The entire process will take place in online mode only.
  • There is a possibility that an interviewer can ask the candidate to sketch or draw a topic for better assessment.

Q:   Are there any specific requirement for uploading portfolio for SEED PRPI?
A: 
  • Click good quality pictures of these and compile them in a Power Point Presentation of maximum 15 slides. Convert this into a PDF of up to 5 Mb.
  • Take pictures that are different from others. Do not copy others.
Q:   When can I upload my portfolio for PRPI round of SEED?
A: 

The start date for uploading portfolios has not been declared yet, but it is expected to be in the last week of March 2026. The portfolio upload link was given on the SID admission portal. The candidate needed to follow the specified guidelines when uploading the portfolio. 

The portfolio should have

  • Sketches, mixed media illustrations and digital work  

  • Collaging of images, 2D and 3D articles  

  • Photography  

  • 3D objects like sculpture, fabric products, gadgets, art inspired products etc.

Q:   Does Symbiosis Institute of Design conducts mock tests for entrance exams?

Yes, Symbiosis Institute of Design conducts mock test for SEED entrance exam. SEED Mock test will be conducted for B.Des programme for all the candidates who have filled SEED Application form.

SEED Entrance Exam will be conducted online in CBT Mode. There will be 60 questions. Total time given will be 60 minutes for the written test.

SEED exam will be conducted online for all programmes. There will be no offline exam centre. You can give exam from your home, but you should have proper internet connection.

How to Prepare for SEED 2027?

Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) will conduct the SEED 2027 written exams in an online proctored mode.

  1. Go through the exam syllabus: The syllabus will contain the topics you need to cover for the exam. Check out the topics, also the important ones that will carry maximum weightage. You can divide the syllabus into easy, moderate, and difficult. This way, you can allocate more time for the difficult topics.
  2. Align your preparation with the exam pattern: While the syllabus tells you what to study, the SEED 2027 exam pattern will tell you how to study for the given topics in the syllabus. For instance, the SEED exam will be conducted in an online-proctored, computer-based mode. Also, questions will be objective type. So, you need to be prepared for that.
  3. Make a study timetable: This study timetable will help you cover the syllabus within a specific time and also help you devise proper exam strategies.
  4. Take notes: Taking notes during study will keep you engaged and focused. Also, this practice will help you note down important points. In the last few weeks leading up to the exam, the notebook can be a great resource for quick revision.

The final merit list for admission to SID will be prepared based on the cumulative performance of the candidate in Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED), Portfolio Review, PRPI Task and Personal Interaction.

Note that if the candidate doesn’t participate in the PRPI round, he or she will not be considered for admission. The allotment of seats to the B.Des programme will be based on the merit rank of the candidate.

A: 

The SEED 2026 syllabus is released by the Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID). It is very possible that the candidate finds some topics difficult. When the candidate encounters difficult topics, the first urge should be to try a little harder to tackle the topic. But if you are not able to get it done with that extra effort, it is better to take the help of a teacher, peer, or a guide. Or else you will end up spending prodigious time. Also, if you are not able to get any help at the moment, you may consider leaving out that topic for the moment. And once you are done with the rest of the topics, you can come back and try out the difficult topic anew.

Q:   Who prescribes the SEED syllabus?

The syllabus for the design aptitude test is prescribed by the exam conducting authority, the Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID). With this, the exam pattern is also decided by it. Q:   Is portfolio required to get admission to SEED B.Des Programme?
A: 

Yes, a portfolio is required to get admission to SEED B.Des and M.Des programmes. You are required to present a digital portfolio that should contain all of your best work. Portfolio should be in the form of a PDF. 

Q:   I have done foundation program/Diploma from another institute. Do I need to appear in SEED 2027 or I can get direct admission?
A: 

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) does not have any provisions for direct admission to the second year. So, candidates have to take admission in the first year of the B.Des program. Note that admission to the B.Des is only through the SEED 2027 exam.

Scores of the qualifying exam will not be considered for admission to the B.Des program. Neither does SID accept scores of other popular entrance exams like NIFT, NID DAT, etc.
