IIT Guwahati has released the GATE 2026 Environmental Science and Engineering (ES) syllabus on the GATE’s official website - gate2026.iitg.ac.in. Candidates who are interested in applying for the ES paper for the GATE 2026 exam can check the syllabus, pattern, books, exam dates, etc. 

GATE 2025 Environmental Science and Engineering Syllabus

GATE 2026 Environmental Science and Engineering Syllabus: IIT Guwahati will conduct the GATE 2026 exam in two phases on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. The examinations will be conducted in the Morning (9:30 am to 12:30 pm) and the Afternoon (2:30 pm to 5:30 pm). Candidates can check GATE 2026 ES syllabus, books, pattern and preparation tips here.

However, IIT Guwahati has announced the GATE 2026 exam dates: February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026 in two sessions - Forenoon (9:30 am to 12:30 pm) and Afternoon (2:30 pm to 5:30 pm). Candidates appearing for the exam must carry their GATE 2025 admit card to the test centre. The admit card release date is January 2.

Q:   Is JEE mandatory for BSc courses at IIT Madras?
A:

No, JEE exams are not mandatory for BSc admissions at IIT Madras. Candidates who wish to take admissions into the BSc course at IIT Madras must appear for IISER entrance examination. The admissions into IIT Madras BSc courses are decided on merit basis where, the scores obtained by candidates in the IISER entrance exam are taken into account to decide the admissions.

Q:   Is it enough to rely on the college text books for GATE 2026 preparation?
A:

Honestly, textbooks are not enough for GATE preparation (especially if you are targeting IITs and top colleges). 

Besides your college books, look out for top GATE books recommended by toppers, mentors, and professors. Pick at least one standard book for each subject and start studying it side by side. Apart from that, also practice solving GATE question papers of last 5 to 10 years to get hands on the question difficulty and pattern. 

Stay consistent, prepare a practical timetable and religiously follow it. At the end, it's all upto how you prepare for the exam.

GATE 2026 Environmental Science and Engineering Syllabus: Pattern

IIT Guwahati has released GATE 2026 environmental science and engineering syllabus on the website. Candidates can check the exam scheme below -

  • GATE ES paper will be conducted online for three hours 
  • To obtain good score and rank in GATE 2026, students must be aware of the exam pattern of GATE ES
  • The question paper include three sections - General Aptitude (GA), Engineering Mathematics, and Subject-specific questions
  • Total mark of GATE ES question paper 2026 is 100 and consists of 65 questions
  • Distribution of marks can be checked here: engineering mathematics 13 marks, general aptitude 15 marks, and environmental science and engineering 72 marks. 
  • All questions carry either one to two marks. Negative marking is only applicable to MCQs.

Candidates opting for environmental science and engineering as the primary subject in the GATE 2026 can choose the following test papers as the secondary paper.

The GATE exam is conducted once a year. The entrance test takes place on multiple dates and shifts for 30 test papers. For 2026, IIT Guwahati is conducting the exam on February 7, 8, 14, and 15.

Yes, IIT Guwahati has extended the GATE 2026 registration date with late fees. The new GATE 2026 registration date is October 13.

The GATE cutoff changes every year depending on seat intake, number of applicants appeared in exam, toughness of question paper, and previous cutoff trends. Candidates who meet cutoff score can participate for counselling.

Based on the previous year's trends, the GATE 2026 expected cutoff for computer Science and engineering can be checked below-

No, a duplicate GATE 2026 admit card will not be provided at the test center. Candidates must carry their own admit card along with the mentioned documents and items to the GATE exam center. IIT Guwahati will release the GATE admit card on January 2.

Yes, candidates will get a scribble pad in the GATE exam 2026 to do the rough work. Candidates have to write their name and registration number on the scribble pad before using it. However, the rough sheet must be returned after the completion of the exam.

The barcode present in the GATE admit card 2026 carries the candidate's information. It is required for a faster verification process and fraud prevention. So, make sure it does not get tampered. Carry multiple copies in case your GATE 2026 hall ticket is torn or tampered.

Candidates who are appearing for the GATE exam must carry a valid ID proof along with a passport-size photograph, transperant water bottle, and pen (blue or black) along with GATE 2026 hall ticket. We advise to carry atleast two to three copies of admit card to the centre.
