JoSAA Counselling 2025 Round 1 Analysis: JoSAA released the Round 1 counselling cutoff on June 14, 2025. JoSAA cutoff comprises of opening and closing ranks of participating institutes for admission. Indian Institute of Technology (IITs):

• The closing rank for the open category in Interdisciplinary Sciences at IIT Dharwad is AIR 16,317. This shows that a good number of students opted for science and research-based dual degree programs.

   

• In the female category, the closing rank for Chemical Sciences at IIT Dharwad as per JoSAA round 1 counselling is AIR 25,310. This shows more opportunities for female students in science streams at older IITs.

National Institute of Technology (NITs):

• NIT Agartala had a closing rank of 52,233 for Chemistry (dual degree), showing decent interest in basic sciences.
• NIT Mizoram closed at 64,221 for females in Civil Engineering, reflecting that newer NITs have relatively higher closing ranks (less competition).

Indian Institute Of Information Technology (IIITs)

• IIIT Senapati, Manipur, closed at 56,825 (gender-neutral) and 63,960 (female) for ECE with VLSI specialisation. This shows rising demand for tech-focused courses even at remote locations.

Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs)

• Dr. H. S. Gour University’s Food Engineering program had a closing rank of 88,022, one of the highest ranks in Round 1, giving lower-rank students a good option in a specialised field.
• Indian Institute of Carpet Technology, Badohi has a closing rank of 81,636 in the female category in the BTech Carpet and Textile Technology course.

Shiksha.com ran a poll where we asked, "Were you allotted a seat in JoSAA round 1 counselling?". Here are the results so far:

• The maximum candidates who participated in the poll said that they are yet to be allotted a seat in JoSAA counselling. 55% of the candidates are hopeful of getting a seat in the upcoming JoSAA rounds.
• On the other hand, 34% of the candidates said that they have been allotted a seat, but they have opted for upgradation.
• While 11% of the candidates are now relieved as they have got their desired seat in the first round itself. 

This year, the total number of undergraduate engineering seats available through JoSAA counselling is 62,853 across all IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs. JoSAA 2025 counselling will be completed in 6 rounds this year. Each round of the JoSAA counselling will have these steps: seat allotment, seat confirmation by candidates, online reporting at the allotted institute, and payment of fees. After all the rounds, any vacant seats remaining will be allotted via the CSAB counselling 2025.
