What After JoSAA 2025 Seat Allotment Result?
Once the candidates have been allotted seats via the JoSAA seat allotment process, candidates have to follow the steps below:
Step 1: Seat confirmation
Candidates must accept the allocated seat and choose one of the following options—‘Freeze’, ‘Slide’, or ‘Float’—for their academic program in any subsequent rounds of JoSAA seat allocation:
- Freeze: By selecting “Freeze,” the candidate accepts the offered seat and confirms satisfaction with the allocated academic program. The candidate will not participate in any further rounds of JoSAA 2025 and will retain the same seat. The seat will be provisionally confirmed, pending successful completion of all steps, and will not be reassigned in future rounds.
- Float: Choosing “Float” means the candidate accepts the offered seat and is willing to be considered for admission to a higher-preference academic program at any Institute in subsequent rounds. If no higher preference is offered, the candidate will continue with the accepted academic program. Candidates opting for “Float” will be considered in future rounds of JoSAA 2025.
- Slide: Selecting “Slide” means the candidate accepts the offered seat and is open to being allocated a higher-preference academic program within the same Institute in later rounds of seat allocation. Candidates who choose “Slide” will also be considered in subsequent rounds of JoSAA 2025.
Step 2: Upload the documents
The candidate must upload all the required documents as per their preferred institution (IIT or NIT+ system) and other requirements like category, gender, etc.
Step 3: Pay the seat acceptance fee
To continue with the JoSAA process and secure a seat in IITs or the NIT+ System, candidates must pay the seat acceptance fee. The documents uploaded by the candidate will not be verified until the seat acceptance fee is paid. It’s important to note that the admission fee, which varies across institutes and categories of candidates, is different from the seat acceptance fee. Candidates are required to pay the seat acceptance fee only in the round in which the seat is first allotted. Failing to pay the seat acceptance fee will be considered a rejection of the offered seat, and the candidate will no longer be eligible to participate in subsequent rounds of seat allocation.
JoSAA 2025 Seat Acceptance Fee:
Category |
Fee |
---|---|
SC, ST, GEN-PwD, GEN-EWS-PwD, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC-PwD or ST-PwD |
INR 15,000 |
All other candidates |
INR 30,000 |
The seat acceptance fee includes INR 5,000 towards the JoSAA processing charges. The seat acceptance fee, excluding JoSAA processing charges of Rs. 5000, will be adjusted against the admission fee.
Step 4: Respond to queries (if any)
During document verification, if the verification officer raises any queries, the candidate must respond online through the candidate portal within the given time frame. Failure to respond to the query(ies) within the stipulated time will result in the cancellation of the allotted seat, and the candidate will no longer be eligible to participate in any subsequent rounds of JoSAA 2025. It is the candidate's responsibility to regularly check the online portal and promptly address any queries. No separate notification will be provided to the candidates.

How is the JoSAA 2025 Seat Allotment Done?
Seat allocation in IITs is determined based on the JEE Advanced 2025 rank, while seat allocation in the NIT+ System is based on the JEE Main 2025 rank. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) is responsible for conducting the seat allocation process and ensuring that it is done fairly and transparently, based on the JoSAA seat matrix provided by the participating institutes.
The JoSAA 2025 seat matrix includes the number of available seats in each program across different categories (such as General, OBC, SC, ST, etc.) for all participating institutions. JoSAA uses this matrix to allocate seats based on the candidates' ranks and their preferred choices during the choice-filling process.
The JoSAA 2025 seat allocation process takes into account two main factors: the candidate’s rank (JEE Advanced for IITs and JEE Main for NIT+ System) and the choices they have filled in the order of their preference. Candidates are required to fill in their choices of institutes and programs during the JoSAA 2025 choice-filling window. Once the JoSAA 2025 choice filling is completed, JoSAA allocates seats based on the candidates' ranks, the available seats, and the preferences they have filled.
This method ensures that each candidate is allocated a seat in their preferred institute or program, subject to their rank and availability of seats in the chosen category. Additionally, the allocation process follows a systematic approach, considering factors such as category reservations, special preferences, and seat availability in each round of JoSAA 2025.

The JoSAA 2025 counselling round 3 seat allotment result will be out on June 28. The JoSAA counselling process, which includes multiple rounds of seat allotment, will follow a specific schedule. This schedule, detailing the important dates for each round, including registration, choice filling, seat allotment, and the deadlines for each process, has been released on the official JoSAA website at josaa.nic.in.
NO, if you have already completed all the steps of online reporting process in a certain round in an IIT reporting centre and you have been allocated another seat of higher preference in your choice list in another IIT, you don’t have to repeat the online reporting process.
Once candidates have filled in their choices, they can manage them freely until the JoSAA choice locking date. This means they can remove, rearrange, or modify their choices as many times as needed before the deadline. Candidates can rearrange their choices by adjusting the choice numbers or easily swap options between different choices. Additionally, multiple choices can be selected at once for bulk deletion.
JoSAA choice management remains open until the final date specified in the JoSAA schedule. Once candidates lock and submit their choices as per the schedule, no further changes can be made throughout the counselling process. The seat allotment in each JoSAA counselling round will be based on the choices submitted by the candidates. If a candidate does not lock their choices by the given date, their most recently saved choices will be automatically locked and used for JoSAA seat allotment in all rounds.
Candidates are encouraged to fill as many choices as possible in order of preference to enhance their chances of securing a seat in the JoSAA allotment. candidates can fill maximum number of choices that is allowed in JoSAA counselling. The seat allocation is determined based on the choices made by the candidates, their category, and their JEE Main / JEE Advanced ranks, as applicable.
After candidates have made and finalised their selections, the next step is the seat allotment process. JoSAA will release the seat allotment results on the candidates' individual JoSAA login portals. To view the results, candidates must log in using their JEE Main 2025 application number and JoSAA 2025 password. The seat allocation is based on the candidates' JEE Main/Advanced ranks, category, and the choices they have filled. Once a seat is allotted, the candidate must accept the allocation and select one of the following options for their academic programme choice in any subsequent rounds of seat allocation: 'Freeze', 'Slide', or 'Float'.

If a candidate has been allotted seat in the first round of JoSAA, only then the seat acceptance fee (SAF) has to be paid. SAF is to be paid to confirm the seat as soon as the seat is allotted. If the SAF is not paud, then the candidate will not be eligible for document verification.
