JoSAA 2026 Seat Allotment Result: The Joint Seat Allocation Authority has released JoSAA counselling round 5 allotment at josaa.nic.in. This is the last allotment round of the counselling process. Candidates can check the seat allotment result at josaa.nic.in using their application number and password.

  • A candidate who is allotted a seat must download the “Initial Seat Allotment Intimation Slip”, which has information regarding the Seat Allotment and steps to be followed for seat confirmation by the candidate.
  • After the JoSAA seat allotment process, candidates have to choose what they want to do with the allotted seat. They get three options - ‘Freeze’, ‘Slide’, or ‘Float’. After making this selection, candidates are required to upload all necessary documentation, pay the seat acceptance fee and proceed with the rest of the JoSAA process. Seat acceptance and confirmation are one of the most important steps.

After seat confirmation, candidates must upload the required documents for verification on the JoSAA portal. They should also be ready to address any queries from verification officers by the deadline. This year, there will be five rounds in JoSAA counselling.

  1. Visit the official JoSAA website and follow the seat allotment link.
  2. Now the JoSA login will open. Here, enter the JEE Main application number and password.
  3. Once the login is successful, candidates can check the seat allotment result.

Once the candidates have been allotted seats via the JoSAA seat allotment process, candidates have to follow the steps below:

Step 1: Seat confirmation

Candidates must accept the allocated seat and choose one of the following options: ‘Freeze’, ‘Slide’, or ‘Float' for their academic program in any subsequent rounds of JoSAA seat allocation:

  • Freeze: A candidate selecting "Freeze" means that they are happy with the allotted seat and do not want to take part in any more JoSAA counselling rounds. These candidates will not be considered in any further JoSAA counselling rounds.
  1. Float: The candidate who selects "Float", will indicate that they accept the seat; however, they would like to participate in further JoSAA counselling rounds. They would like to be considered for a better course from their choice list in any college. These candidates will be considered in the upcoming JoSAA rounds.
  2. Slide: Candidates who select "Slide" will also be considered in further counselling rounds. These candidates will be considered for better course preference from their choice list, but in the same institution as allotted.

For example: Your choice list is:

  1. IIT Bombay CSE
  2. IIT Delhi CSE
  3. IIT Bombay EE
  4. IIT Delhi EE

And, you are currently allotted Choice #4: IIT Delhi EE. The you can:

Freeze

  • Action: You accept IIT Delhi EE and want nothing else.
  • Result: You exit counselling. Your seat is completely locked.

Float

  • Action: You keep IIT Delhi EE, but want a higher choice at any college.
  • Result: Next round, you could upgrade to IIT Delhi CSE OR IIT Bombay CSE/EE.

Slide

  • Action: You keep IIT Delhi EE, but want a higher choice only at IIT Delhi.
  • Result: Next round, you can only upgrade to IIT Delhi CSE. IIT Bombay choices are ignored.

Step 2: Upload the documents

After step 1, candidates have to upload all the required documents as per the requirement of the institute and their category, gender, reservation sought, etc.

Step 3: Pay the seat acceptance fee

To be able to proceed with the JoSAA counselling process, candidates have to pay the seat acceptance fee. The seat acceptance fee is to be paid in all the cases - whether the candidate choose to float, freeze or slide their seat. The seat acceptance fee is to be paid after the first allotment of seat. If the fee is not paid the candidates get eliminated from the counselling process.

The seat acceptance fee includes INR 5,000 towards the JoSAA processing charges. The seat acceptance fee, excluding JoSAA processing charges of Rs. 5000, will be adjusted against the admission fee.

Step 4: Respond to queries (if any)

The candidates allotted seats have to upload the document in the online JoSAA 2026 portal for verification. These documents are verified the verification officers. These officers will then post queries under the queries if required under the login of the candidates. These queries must be addressed by the candidates by the set time limit. If the queries are left unanswered, then the candidates will not be allowed to take part in the further counselling process, and they will lose their allotted seat.

What Can Cause the Cancellation of JoSAA 2026 Seat Allocation

The following situations may result in the cancellation of a candidate's allotted seat in JoSAA counselling:

  • Failure to respond to any raised queries will lead to seat cancellation, which will be considered a rejection of the offer, and the candidate will forfeit eligibility for admission to any institute through JoSAA 2026.
  • Non-payment of the seat acceptance fee.
  • If any documents or certificates are found to be invalid or fraudulent, or if the candidate fails to meet any of the eligibility requirements, the seat will be cancelled.

How is the JoSAA 2026 Seat Allotment Done

All registered candidates are allotted seats in each round of JoSAA according to the JoSAA 2026 choice filling they have done and their JEE Main/JEE Advanced AIR. The seat allotment process in JoSAA takes into consideration the following factors:

  • Ranks of JEE Main / JEE Advanced
  • Choices filled by the candidates
  • Seats available
  • Category of the candidate
  • Gender of the candidate

The JoSAA seat allotment is based purely on JEE Main ranks and JEE Advanced ranks. The seat allocation in the NIT+ System is based on the JEE Main 2026 rank, and seat allocation at IIT is based on JEE Advanced ranks. All seats available in the JoSAA seat matrix, are allotted transparently via the JoSAA seat allocation process based on ranks, category (such as General, OBC, SC, ST, etc.) and reservation rules.

Documents for Online Reporting / Registration

The following documents must be uploaded by candidates for online reporting and registration, whether for the NIT+ system or admission to IITs.

  • General Mandatory Documents
  • Proof of Date of Birth: Class X Mark Sheet/Certificate, Aadhaar Card, or Birth Certificate.
  • Academic Records: Class XII Mark Sheet and Certificate (Qualifying Examination). (Note: For IIT admissions, usually only the Class XII Mark Sheet is specified, but the certificate is generally required for the NIT+ system.)
  • Bank Details: A crossed bank cheque copy or an image of your passbook showing account details (for refund purposes).
  • Medical Certificate: A valid medical fitness certificate. Category-Specific Documents (If Applicable) 
  • Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/GEN-EWS): A valid certificate issued by the competent authority in the Government of India format (as per the JoSAA website guidelines).
  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwD): Original PwD Certificate issued by the competent authority. Original Certificate for persons having less than 40% disability and having difficulty in writing, if applicable.
  • International Candidate Documents (If Applicable) OCI/PIO: OCI certificate or PIO card.
  • Citizenship Proof: Passport or Citizenship certificate.
Q:   What is PAF in JoSAA?
A: 

PAF is Partial Admission Fee, which is to be paid by candidates who get provisionally allotment in the NIT+System during the JoSAA rounds, provided the seat has not been cancelled or withdrawn. PAF can be paid using UPI/Credit card/Debit card/Internet Banking. Candidates who fail to remit the PAF will not be allotted a seat.

Q:   What is a special round in JoSAA?

Special Vacant Seats Filling Round, also known as the special round is conducted by the Central Seat Allocation Board CSAB to fill the vacant seats at NITs, IIEST, IIITs and other GFTIs (Except IITs) after completion of all the JoSAA Rounds. The purpose of the special round is to fill the remaining vacant seats in the participating institutes. Candidates who are eligible for the special round have to register and fill their choices again. The seat allocation in the special round is based on the candidate's rank and the availability of seats.
