JoSAA 2026 Opening and Closing Ranks: The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) determines the opening and closing ranks for engineering admissions across IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.
- The opening rank represents the highest score to secure a seat in a specific course and category, while the closing rank marks the final, lowest score accepted. These cut-offs fluctuate for every program based on seat availability, student categories, and gender quotas.
- On the other hand, the JoSAA cutoff signifies the closing rank - the lowest rank at which a seat is allotted for a particular course and category. Usually, the JoSAA cutoff is the highest for the computer science branch across the IITs and the NITs. Historical data shows that IIT Bombay’s CSE branch witnesses the highest cutoff yearly.

Knowing the opening and closing ranks of JoSAA is very important because:
- Admission chances: Knowing the opening and closing ranks of the courses and colleges, candidates get the information on which colleges and courses are available at their rank range. Additionally, candidates can decide whether to exit or withdraw from the counselling process based on the admission chances. Students can plan for other admission processes if JoSAA closing ranks signify low admission chances, like CSAB counselling or state-level counselling via JEE Mains 2026.

NIT Raipur admissions for the BTech course typically begin in June, right after the JEE Advanced results are announced. The JoSAA portal opens for registration and choice filling during this time. You usually have about ten days to finalize your list of colleges. It is very important to stay updated

NIT Raipur partners with JoSAA to manage the seat allotment for the BTech programme in several rounds. The system looks at your JEE rank and your saved list of college preferences. If your rank matches the cutoff, you get a seat offer automatically. You can then choose to "Freeze" your seat or wait

JoSAA Counselling is for government/NIT/IIT-level colleges, you need a JEE Main/Advanced score, seats are allotted by the government, fees are lower, and the process is centralized and merit-based.
Direct Private Admission is for private colleges like NIE, JSS, or VVCE Mysore done through KCET or COM

The most critical distinction is that JoSAA counselling does not apply to private engineering colleges in Bangalore. JoSAA strictly manages admissions for premier government-funded institutions like IITs, NITs, and IIITs.

JoSAA is mostly for government colleges, while East West College of Engineering uses state or direct admission. Direct admission for BE course is often faster and involves dealing with the college directly. It is a good choice if you already know you want to study at this specific college. You don't

No, JoSAA counselling is not required for the students who want to take admission on the basis of entrance in BTech at Army Institute of Technology, Pune. Only entrance scores are considered at the time of admission. Students need to submit JEE Mains scorecard at the time of admission.
