What Does MHT CET Vacant Seats 2026 Mean for Candidates?

Vacant seats do not necessarily mean that all these seats are immediately available to every candidate. Seat availability is linked to the applicable CAP round, candidature type, category and other admission rules.

Candidates participating in further rounds should therefore avoid selecting colleges only because they have a high number of vacant seats. Instead, they should consider factors such as previous-year cutoffs, branch preference, college reputation, placements, fees and location before making their choices.

The Maharashtra CET Cell’s official portal provides institute-wise allotment information and the provisional vacancy position for the CAP process.

MHT CET CAP Round 3: Why Vacant Seats Matter

The vacant seat data becomes particularly relevant as the counselling process moves ahead. Candidates who accepted a seat in Round 2 with the Not Freeze/Betterment option can participate in subsequent rounds, subject to the applicable counselling rules. The official CET Cell has also extended the Round 2 seat acceptance deadline to August 18, 2026, while institute reporting has been extended up to 5 PM on the same day.

The next round can therefore lead to further movement in available seats as candidates upgrade their allotted colleges or branches.

Candidates should regularly check the official portal for the latest vacancy position before submitting their choices.

How to Check MHT CET Vacant Seats 2026?

Candidates can follow these steps to check the vacancy position:

  1. Visit the official MHT CET counselling website.

  2. Open the First Year Engineering (FE) 2026-27 section.

  3. Look for the latest Provisional Vacancy Position or seat matrix link.

  4. Select the relevant CAP round.

  5. Download or open the vacancy list.

  6. Search for the preferred college, course or choice code.

  7. Check the available seats according to category and seat type.

The official portal currently lists the CAP Round 2 provisional vacancy position among the important counselling links.

Candidates Should Check College-Wise Vacancy Before Choice Filling

The overall figure of more than 54,700 vacant seats gives an indication of the scale of vacancies, but it should not be used to assume that every college or branch has seats available.

For example, official CAP allotment documents show vacancies continuing in specific categories at individual institutes after allotment. Candidates should therefore check the detailed vacancy list for their preferred colleges before finalising their choices.

With a 51 percentile in MHT CET you might have limited options for top-tier engineering programs. Since you already possess a specialized, high-value professional course, so I think repeating an engineering/technical entrance exam to join a lower-tier private college will take you a step backward.

Sorry, but according to me with 96.09 percentile in MHT-CET through PCB, you cannot get admission to ICT for B.Tech Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology. The cuttoff competitively closes around 99.0 to 99.9 percentile.
