You don’t really have to burn the midnight oil to become a top scorer in GATE 2020. All you need is to have smart time management and you could reap the benefits.

If you are loaded with work at the office, it can get difficult for you to manage time between work and GATE preparation. However, experts suggest that you don’t really have to burn the midnight oil to become a top scorer in GATE 2020. All you need is to have smart time management and you could reap the benefits. Here is how:

  • If you're not heavily loaded with work at the office, see if you can take out time for study. In some multinationals (MNCs) and other organisations, employees are even placed at the bench. Use it to your advantage.
  • Make it a habit to carry notes along with you, of the details covered that day. You’ll also write important formulae and equations that you simply think are important.
  • If you are in a 9-6 job, make sure that you don’t lollygag around after office hours. Try to study for a minimum of three hours daily during weekdays.
  • During weekends, attempt to study and cover as much syllabus as possible. Also, bring down the time spent on distractions such as parties, social media, smartphone, etc.
  • Don’t miss on your regular revision. Prepare short notes while studying and use them while revising. Since notes are your own thing, you'll even experiment and add figures and illustrations to form learning fun, easy and to assist your memory. These notes will help in saving revision time tremendously. If you're smart together with your notes, you'll get the whole syllabus covered in them. Yes, every now then you would possibly need to revisit the textbooks, but at the most other times, they're going to be ok.
  • Planning involves deciding the flow of study -- what and when to review, and for a way long. Once you identify your strong and weak areas, allocating time becomes easier. If you don’t, you would possibly find yourself practising topics you already know again and again, while ignoring weak areas. It must be noted that planning can't be static, but has got to be adjusted from time to time to suit your progress. For instance, if you picking a specific subject fast, you would possibly be got to allocate the spare time to another subject that needs attention.
  • Do timely revision. It’ll save time and tons of headaches. During revision, you want to note your progress and determine which areas needless and which areas need more revision. Arranging the topics and problems within the order of difficulty level are able to do that. Also, after sufficient revision, if you are feeling confident a few topics, you'll reduce the frequency of revision and move to another topic.

At KIIT School of Electronics Engineering, GATE-qualified students follow the same general timeline for the M.Tech application. But, their selection process might move faster if they have a high GATE score, as they are then exempt from the entrance exam.
