KJ Somaiya MBA Admission Dates 2026

KJ Somaiya Institute of Management offers MBA admissions via two different rounds. Both admission rounds share the same registration deadline. The institute follows a schedule under the first round to shortlist candidates through NMAT, GMAT, XAT, and CAT scores. Whereas, the second admission round aids shortlisting through CMAT exam scores.

Q:   How is the NMAT score and percentile calculated?
A:

The scores of candidates will be equated and percentile scores are calculated after the completion of exam for declaring the final NMAT result. Check below, how the scaled and percentile scores are calculated.

Scaled scores: The scaled scores are prepared after normalising the marks obtained by the candidates. These scores are equated to account any differences in the overall difficulty level. This process is applied to check the scores are comparable across the different sets of question papers.

Final percentile: The final percentile is prepared after the candidates have appeared for NMAT by GMAC examination. The scorecard of NMAT sent to schools will be updated with the announcement of the result. For example, if a test taker is said to score 75 percentile, the test taker scored better than 75%ile of all the test takers who took the exam.

Q:   What factors determine NMAT cutoff for admission?
A:

Numerous factors determine the NMAT cutoff scores for admission. NMAT participating colleges determine the NMAT cutoff scores for admission in the institute. Here are the factors that are considered while determining the NMAT cut off score:

  • Aggregate marks of candidates in the NMAT exam
  • Total applications received for the programme
  • Total seats available for the programme
  • NMAT cutoff trend over the years
  • Reservation criteria
  • Difficulty level of the NMAT exam

Besides the above mentioned factors, NMAT cutoff may vary across several other factors.

Q:   How is NMAT cutoff score decided?
A:

NMAT participating institutes decide the cutoff scores for admission and to shortlist candidates for admission rounds. Several factors, including the previous year's cutoff scores, total applicants, total seats, candidate's performance, among other factors helps in deciding the cutoff scores.

Typically, the participating institute shall decide the NMAT cutoff marks based on the number of seats, total applicants, and previous year's cutoff scores. The cutoff score may change based on demand-supply principle. More number of applications will lead to higher cutoff score. Whereas, decrease in the number of applications can lead to a lower cutoff score.

Q:   What is meant by sectional cutoff for NMAT?
A:

The sectional cutoff in NMAT is the minimum score required in each section of the exam in order to be eligible for admission to a particular B-school. The NMAT exam is divided into three sections:

  • Language Skills
  • Quantitative Skills
  • Logical Reasoning

The sectional cutoffs are different for each B-school. Some of the participating institutes may or may not have any sectional cutoff score. Candidates who meet the overall cutoff score; however, do not meet the sectional cutoff scores are not eligible for the NMAT based admissions.

Q:   What do scaled and percentile scores refer to in NMAT exam?
A:
NMAT scorecard is compiled of scaled and percentile scores. Here is the basic difference between scaled scores and percentile scores in NMAT exam- Scaled Scores - The test forms are equated to account for any difference in the overall difficulty and the raw test scores are normalised on a common scale to arrive at scaled scores. Percentile Score - The percentile rank or score is an indicator of score/rank of the candidate as compared to the score/rank of all the other test-takers. NMAT participating institute may accept any of the scores for admission based on NMAT exam.
Q:   What is meant by NMAT cutoff?
A:

In simple words mean, the cutoff scores help in the screening process by which candidates can be shortlisted for further selection rounds, including the Group Discussion (GD)/Case Discussion (CD) and Personal Interview.
