NMAT by GMAC has total marks ranging from 36 to 360. Candidates get a score range without specific weightage given to each question.
NMAT total marks are reported on a scaled score range of 36 to 360. Each of the three sections, including the Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning, has a score range of 12 to 120. NMAT total score is the sum of the three sectional scores.
Some sources claim 324 marks as the maximum score based on 108 questions and three marks per question. However, GMAC does not specify any official NMAT score range for each question. NMAT exam will have a scaled scoring system, so the score is not calculated as a simple number of correct answers multiplied by a fixed mark value. Check complete details on NMAT total marks, including the adaptive marking scheme, marks vs percentile, and more.

NMAT Total Marks and Section-Wise Score Range
Each section of NMAT 2026 exam has 36 questions and has a separate score range of 12 to 120.
| Section | Questions | Time | Score Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Language Skills | 36 | 28 minutes | 12-120 |
| Quantitative Skills | 36 | 52 minutes | 12-120 |
| Logical Reasoning | 36 | 40 minutes | 12-120 |
| Total | 108 | 120 minutes | 36-360 |
Therefore, the NMAT maximum score is 360, while the total score range starts at 36. Candidates receive separate scaled scores for each section along with their total score.

How Are NMAT Marks Calculated?
The NMAT score is not calculated by simply adding marks for every correct answer. The exam uses an adaptive testing and scaled scoring system. The calculation can be understood in four steps:
- Candidates answer questions: NMAT selects questions from a pool based on the candidate's performance on earlier questions. This means the questions presented will depend on previous responses.
- An ability estimate is calculated: The scoring is based on an estimate as per the candidate's ability after checking the responses to the questions they answered.
- The ability estimate is converted into a scaled score: The estimated ability is transformed into a score between 12 and 120 for each section. The scoring process also accounts for differences in question difficulty.
- The three sectional scores are added: The Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning scores are combined to produce the total NMAT score, which ranges from 36 to 360.
Therefore, NMAT scaled score cannot be treated as a direct count of correct answers. The NMAT scaled score reflects the scoring model used by the exam rather than a fixed marks-per-question system.
NMAT Marks Per Question and Negative Marking
There is no officially published fixed marks-per-question value that can be used to calculate the NMAT total score. Some websites use three marks per question as an approximation, but this does not explain how the official scaled score is produced.
There is also no negative marking for wrong or unattempted answers. Candidates therefore do not lose marks from their NMAT score for an incorrect response.
For more details about the broader NMAT marking scheme, candidates can refer to the NMAT marking scheme guide.
Why Do Sources Claim NMAT Is 324 or 360 Marks?
The difference between 324 and 360 comes from two different ways of describing the exam.
The NMAT has 108 questions in total. If someone assumes that every question carries three marks, the calculation is:
108 × 3 = 324
This produces the figure of 324. However, 324 is not the official maximum scaled score reported by GMAC.
There is another issue with this calculation. Each NMAT section has 36 questions, but its reported score can go up to 120. If every question simply carried three marks, 36 questions would give a maximum of 108, not 120.
This shows why the NMAT score cannot be treated as a simple raw marks calculation. The official score is a scaled score ranging from 12 to 120 for each section, giving a total range of 36 to 360.
The NMAT total marks are 360, with a score range of 36 to 360. Each of the three sections has a score range of 12 to 120. The exam uses scaled scoring, so the score is not based on a fixed number of marks for every correct answer. The 324 figure seen on some websites is an unofficial calculation based on 108 questions × three marks.
NMAT Total Score vs Sectional Score vs Percentile
The NMAT total score is the combined score of the three sections and ranges from 36 to 360. A sectional score refers to the score obtained in one section, such as Language Skills or Quantitative Skills or Logical Reasoning. Each sectional score ranges from 12 to 120.
The NMAT percentile is different from the score. Percentile shows how a candidate's performance compares with the other candidates who took the exam that year.
| Expected Scaled Score Range | Expected Percentile Range |
|---|---|
| 266 - 360 | > 99 Percentile |
| 255 - 265 | 99 Percentile |
| 242 - 254 | 95 - 98 Percentile |
| 233 - 241 | 90 - 94 Percentile |
| 223 - 232 | 80 - 89 Percentile |
| 210 - 222 | 65 - 79 Percentile |
| 190 - 209 | 40 - 64 Percentile |
| 150 - 189 | 10 - 39 Percentile |
| Below 150 | < 10 Percentile |
NOTE: GMAC does not mention the NMAT percentile in the official scorecard. The percentile rankings are published on the GMAC website to indicate the value of a particular score in the NMAT exam.

No, you cannot get direct admission into Amity University, Noida for the MBA/PGDM course. Students have to either attempt the CAT or the NMAT exam for admission and then sit for the selection process (if qualified), which involves GD (Group Discussion) and PI (Personal Interview).
For the CAT exam,
