Preparation Tips for XAT Decision Making 2027

To score well in the XAT decision making section, candidates must have a structured preparation plan. Given below are some tips and tricks that can help students prepare for the exam:

  • The first step in XAT DM preparation is to develop logical and critical reasoning skills, along with reading comprehension skills.
  • For practicing Decision Making questions, rely more on previous year's XAT question papers (at least 10 year papers).
  • After solving past papers, do not just check whether you have marked the correct answer or not. Instead, check for the official explanation for better understanding and to know why the rest of the options are rejected.
  • Mock tests can help prepare for the exam, but past papers give a clear picture of the question types asked in XAT exam.
  • Applying the elimination method in this section will not result in the correct answer. Instead, look at the questions and options thoroughly.
  • Sometimes, there is no correct option. In such cases, students are advised to choose the closest option that will be good for all stakeholders.
  • Treat the caselets as business problems and don't get swayed by your emotions. Stick to facts and answer accordingly.
  • As there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer, do not select any option if you are not confident about it.

Note: On D-day, spend 25 to 30 minutes on the Decision Making section.

Yes, XAT essay writing round can be considered tough, given that you have to present your point with clarity, examples and convincing arguments - all in limited word count. You need to have a lot of practice in writing short, clear and logically structured essays.

XAT cut offs for all colleges are not fixed by XLRI. Every score accepting college fixed XAT cut offs individually and independently.
