XLRI Jamshedpur offers PGDM admissions based on XAT and other selection parameters. Check XLRI GD-PI process, including weightage, questions, and selection criteria.
XLRI GDPI Process 2026: XLRI Jamshedpur offers PGDM admissions after evaluating candidates on different selection parameters, such as XAT scores, GDPI performance, academic record and more. XAT scores help XLRI to shortlist candidates for GDPI process. XLRI prepares a final merit list for admission to its BM and HRM courses. The final selection merit list evaluates applicants using a weighted combination of XAT scores, XLRI GDPI process, academic records, and work experience, with gender diversity.
XLRI selection process involves submitting a program-specific Statement of Purpose (SOP), followed by GD, WAT, and PI. Scroll down to know the XLRI GDPI process with XAT cutoffs, eligibility criteria, and the mandatory documents required for verification.

XLRI GD-PI Process 2026
XLRI Jamshedpur conducts GD, PI and WAT rounds for all shortlisted candidates through XAT. XLRI selection process, including SOP submission, GD, PI, and WAT are as follows:
XLRI GDPI Process: SOP Questions
After the release of XLRI the interview shortlist, candidates are given 48 hours to submit a Statement of Purpose (SOP). The SOP forms are separate for the BM and HRM programs and are made available to the interviewers during the PI round.
- BM SOP Questions: Candidates are required to write about a contemporary business challenge (e.g., ESG, supply chain issues, AI ethics) and how an XLRI BM degree will help them address it. Candidates must also discuss learnings from their recent work experience or internships, and describe a positive professional, academic, or extracurricular impact they have made.
- HRM SOP Questions: Candidates must address current HR-related issues (e.g., remote teams, mental health, employer branding) and explain why the issue captures their attention. The SOP also requires candidates to detail past pro-social behaviour (e.g., volunteering or mentoring) and explain how they have handled ambiguous or contradictory behavioural cues in the past.
XLRI Group Discussion (GD) Process
The GD panel usually consists of 8 to 10 participants. Candidates receive 2 minutes to read a one-line topic or case-based prompt, followed by 15 to 20 minutes of discussion. At the end, each candidate gets exactly 30 seconds to conclude their points.
XLRI evaluates candidates on communication, collaboration, and ethical reasoning. Dominating the discussion through volume is penalised; the process rewards logical reasoning and active listening. Candidates are expected to assume functional roles within the GD, such as:
- Initiator: Sets the structure and direction of the discussion.
- Builder: Adds relevant content and anchors the discussion.
- Challenger: Questions assumptions and brings objectivity.
- Defender: Supports ideas with factual evidence and reasoning.
- Synthesiser: Shapes the unstructured thoughts of the group and brings people together.
- Summariser: Concludes the discussion by summarising the shared insights.
XLRI Written Ability Test (WAT) Process
Immediately after the GD, candidates are given 15 to 20 minutes to write a 200-word essay. The topic is directly related to the discussion related to the GD round. The WAT assesses a candidate's ability to structure arguments logically, write with clarity and conciseness, and apply multi-dimensional analytical depth. A high-scoring WAT includes a context-setting introduction, multi-angle analysis of the issue, deeper insights into long-term implications, and a clear, logical conclusion.
XLRI Personal Interview (PI) Process
The Personal Interview lasts between 20 and 30 minutes and is conducted by a panel of 2 to 3 members. XLRI Personal Interview questions vary for candidates. However, the PI round for XLRI admissions is designed as a conversation to gauge a candidate's self-awareness, empathy, emotional quotient (EQ), and growth mindset. The interviewers will also get into the conversations based on the submitted SOP, which requires candidates to defend the claims and experiences they wrote down.
XLRI PI panel also tests general awareness via situation-based questions rather than simple fact recall. For example, interviewers may ask about the global impact of geopolitical events on supply chains or business management. XLRI panels also frequently present candidates with ethical dilemmas to test their values and decision-making capabilities under pressure.
XLRI 2026 Selection Criteria: Weightage
The final selection merit list is designed using a weighted combination of XAT scores, GDPI performance, and profile. XLRI allocates the following weightages for final admission:

Candidates cannot select a specific test centre for XAT exam, but they can choose two test city preferences from a drop-down menu during registration. Authorities allot XAT centres based on these preferences on a first-come, first-serve basis.
