Factors Deciding NEET SS Cutoff
Several factors determine the cutoff for the NEET SS exam. A few of them have been listed below:
- Total number of candidates who have applied for a particular super speciality course
- Performance of the candidates in the examination
- The total number of seats available
- The difficulty level of the question paper
- NEET SS cutoff for the previous year

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) or the exam conducting body for NEET SS releases the qualifying scores or the cutoff marks for each subjects along with the result. However, the previous year trend shows that the cut off went the highest for the Respiratory Medicine Group, which was 365 and the lowest cutoff was for the group Orthopaedics, 254.
No, revision of the NEET SS cutoff or qualifying percentile will not affect the rank obtained by the candidate in any way. However, in case the NEET SS cutoff is lowered, and more candidates qualify for the exam, then all those candidates will be eligible to participate in the NEET SS counselling process. It is up to the NBE or MCC to reduce the NEET SS cutoff. The reduction in the NEET SS cut off is informed by the authorities through a notice. The NEET SS 2024 cutoff was reduced to zero prior to the Round 3 counselling. Moreover, the MCC had reduced cut off for NEET SS by 20 percentile for each speciality in 2023 and 2022.
