The National Board of Examinations in Medical Science will conduct the NEET PG exam 2026 on August 30. The Board will soon release the NEET PG 2026 information bulletin on its official website - natboard.edu.in/viewnbeexam?exam=neetpg. The Board will mention all the details such as the eligibility, application related dates, tentative city intimation and admit card dates and the result announcement dates in the bulletin. 

The candidates should note that the NEET PG 2026 will be conducted online as a Computer-Based Test(CBT). The application form will be released as per the dates mentioned in the information brochure. The Board will release the City Intimation Slip around two weeks before the exam date. The admit card will be released only three/four days before the exam date. The NEET PG Counselling will be done by the Medical Counselling Committee(MCC) after the declaration of NEET PG result

What is NEET PG?

NEET PG is the only exam recognised with the pupose for the admission to the PG Courses in Medical Science. As per the information bulletin, no other entrance examination, either at the state or the Institution level, shall be valid for entry to MD/MS/PG Diploma courses.NEET PG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post-Graduation), is conducted for providing admission to various MD (Doctor of Medicine)/ MS (Master of Surgery) and PG Diploma courses across the country. The National Board of Examinations (NBE) conducts the exam once a year in computer-based mode. The scores are also used for taking admission to postgraduate MBBS DNB courses. 15 AIIMS including AIIMS New Delhi, PGIMER Chandigarh, JIPMER, Puducherry, NIMHANS Bengaluru, SGPGI Lucknow, and Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Trivandrum do not accept NEET PG scores. A separate exam is conducted for admission at these institutes, i.e INI CET. The exam is conducted twice in a year in computer-based mode.

Around 2 Lakh candidates appear for NEET PG every year. The number varies every year. Around 2.40 lakh candidates had appeared in NEET PG 2025 exam. A total of 2,28,540 candidates appeared for the NEET PG 2024 exam. In NEET PG 2023, around 2,06,541 candidates appeared for the exam. NEET PG 2025 exam was held on August 3 and result was announced on August 19, 2025.

Yes. Choices for NEET PG counselling have to be locked in the given deadline. If a candidate doesn't lock the choice of college and course, it gets automatically locked after the deadline. Based on declared choices, availablity of seats, reservation factor, seats will be allotted. NEET PG 2025 counselling is yet to begin. MCC will announce the schedule soon.

NEET PG application form process involves steps such as registration, filling up details in the application form, paying exam fee, and uploading documents. The application process starts with registration. Only those candidates who register themselves on the official website of NBE, nbe.edu.in can submit the application form for NEET PG. A login ID and password will be generated after the successful NEET PG registration 2026 process. To complete the application process, candidates have to upload scanned images of photographs and signatures. These images must be as per the specifications mentioned by NBE. Students have to pay a non-refundable application fee to complete NEET PG application form.

NEET PG 2026 Eligibility Criteria 

NEET PG eligibility criteria is released along with the information brochure. NEET PG eligibility criteria have been summarised below:

  • Aspirants must possess a MBBS degree/provisional Pass Certificate which is recognised as per the provisions of the Indian Medical Council Act 1956 
  • They should also possess a permanent/ provisional registration certificate of MBBS qualification issued by the Medical Council of India or State Medical Council
  • They must have completed the duration of their internship on or before July 31, 2026

NEET PG Counselling 2026

The Counselling is the last stage in the NEET admission process. The candidates who qualify in the CBT will be called for the NEET PG Counselling process. The Medical Conselling Committee will conduct the Counselling to fill the seats in the specialised courses in various medical institutions. NEET PG counselling has the following stages such as online registration and fee payment, filling preferences for college and course, seat allotment result, and reporting.

Candidates must note that MCC conducts counselling for the allotment of 50 per cent All India Quota seats, while respective state counselling authorities conduct counselling for the remaining 50 per cent seats. A total of four rounds of counselling are held for AIQ seat allotment. MCC conducts NEET PG counselling for admission to MD/MS/Diploma courses. MCC conducts NEET PG counselling for 50 per cent AIQ, Deemed/Central Universities, ESIC/AFMS institutes.

Online Registration for NEET Counselling 

Aspirants are required to register themselves on the official website of MCC and fill the application form to participate in the NEET PG 2026 counselling. Only those candidates who will register on the MCC portal will be able to participate in the NEET PG 2026 counselling. The application/registration process for counselling involves the following steps:

  • Creating a profile on the official website of MCC

  • Completing the application form for NEET PG 2026 counselling 

  • Uploading the required documents

  • Depositing the application fee for counselling (credit card/ debit card/net banking)

  • Choice filling and locking

  • Printing a copy of the duly filled application form

NEET PG Reservation: The Revised Criteria

In 2021, Centre had approved 27 and 10 per cent NEET PG reservations for OBC and EWS candidates respectively in 50 per cent All India Quota seats. Candidates who belong to the OBC category (non-creamy layer) as per the Central OBC list, will compete for 50 per cent seats in government medical and dental colleges across the country via AIQ. Candidates don't need the domicile of any particular state for admission to 50 per cent AIQ seats. Similarly, those who belong to EWS (Economic Weaker Section) will be eligible for 10 per cent quota in NEET PG admission. Candidates of both categories need to produce the relevant documents at the time of admission. For candidates of SC and ST categories, there is already a reservation of 15 and 7.5 per cent respectively in NEET PG admission.

NEET PG Merit List

On the basis of the result, NBE prepares a NEET PG merit list. NBE has released merit list for All India 50% quota seats on August 27, 2025. According to which seat allotment process takes place. The higher the position in the merit list better the college candidates get. NBE prepares the merit list on the basis of various criteria. Below are the four criteria upon which merit list will be prepared:

  • All India rank in the exam

  • All India 50 per cent quota rank

  • All India 50 per cent category rank

  • State quota or private medical colleges/ AFMS Rank

Q:   When will NEET PG 2026 Counselling Start?

Candidates have to register online and declare choice for college and course for seat allotment. Registration can be done on the official website. A total of 4 rounds of counselling is held for seat allotment. Based on choice declared by candidates, available seats, NEET PG rank, reservation factor etc. seats are allotted to candidates.

NEET PG Cutoff

There will be two types of Cutoff in the NEET PG exam. The NBEMS will release the NEET PG Cutoff for the CBT with the result. The NBEMS is not concern with the Counselling process. It is handled by the MCC.  The candidates should note that the MCC will release the NEET PG Cutoff after each round of Counselling too. Exam conducting Authority will release the category-wise cutoff for each Counselling round. 

NEET PG Revised Cutoff (2025)

Revised NEET PG 2025 cut off was released for each category. Cutoff is reduced to convince more students to participate in counselling rounds. As per latest report, a petition has been filed in Supreme Court against revised cutoff percentile. Various factors decide the NEET PG cut off such as candidates who appeared for the exam, availability of total seats, difficulty level of NEET PG and others. The NBEMS will release the merit list of the candidates who qualify the CBT. The Board will also release the NEET PG scorecard after the declaration of result. The NEET PG result will be released online only on the portal of the Board. The exam will be conducted on August 30 and the result will be released within 45 days from the exam date.

Earlier, the NBE announced NEET PG result on August 19, 2025.

NEET PG Admit Card 2026

The NBEMS will release the hall ticket for all the candidates who applied succesfully for the exam. The Board will release the exam City Intimation Slip 2026 by August 16 and the NEET PG admit card will be available by August 27. The admit card contains important personal and exam related details such as name and address of allotted exam centre. Candidates are advised to check all the information carefully after downloading the hall ticket from the official website of NBE. Candidates must print a copy of the admit card and affix a latest passport size photograph on it. The admit card should be preserved until the admission process gets over. Specifications of the photograph are as under:

Photograph specification:

  • A photograph of a minimum of 35 mm x 45 mm with at least 75 per cent coverage of the face & head of the candidate
  • A caption with the name of the aspirant along with the date of taking photograph at the bottom of the photo
  • The photograph should have been taken in a white /very light-coloured background
  • The photograph needs to be printed on high-quality paper with at least 600 dpi resolutions
  • The colours must possess the natural appearance and skin tone
  • The photograph must not have kinks, scratches, and stains
  • Photograph with reflection or shadow on the face with red eyes should be avoided

NEET PG 2025 Exam Day Guidelines

  • The exam timing and other details will be released by NBE along with the admit card
  • Candidates are advised to reach the exam centre on or before reporting time menioned in admit card.
  • It is mandatory for all the candidates to go through the security procedures.
  • Electronics such as calculators, smartwatch, pagers, etc. are prohibited in the exam hall.
  • Candidates are advised not to carry bags, books, pens, pencil boxes, writing pad, etc. to the exam centre.
  • These items are banned inside the examination hall and the centre does not have provisions for their safe-keeping NEET PG things banned in exam hall

Q:   Which subject in NEET PG syllabus contains maximum and minimum weightage?
A: 

NBE doesn't release the weightage for NEET PG exam. However, from last few years record, it can be said that maximum weightage is given to clinical subjects. A good number of questions are asked from general medicine, general surgury and paediatrics. Lesser number of questions are asked from anatomy, physiology etc. Candidates must note weightage for NEET PG syllabus may vary. This is why, candidates are advised not to depend upon weightage and prepare all subjects of clinical, pre and para clinical well so that there is less scope of negative marking. 

Q:   Which topics of NEET PG syllabus need to be finished first?
A: 

There is no guidelines as such which topics must be finished first for NEET PG. It varies from candidate to candidate. Candidates may attempt to finish lengthy topics first as it takes time. Another way is to finish high weightage subjects first. It must be kept in mind that whole syllabus must be completed at least a month before exam day so that revision and prcatice can be done properly.

NEET PG Exam Pattern 2026

NEET PG 2026 exam will be held in online mode. NEET PG pattern will be released along with brochure online. Candidates need to know NEET PG exam pattern as it helps candidates in preparation. The exam pattern for NEET PG consist of the details about the test paper, number of the question paper, duration of time, and the marking scheme.  The question paper had 200 multiple choice questions, and candidates were given 3.5 hours to answer them. The total duration of NEET PG exam is 3.5 hours or 210 minutes. In 2024, NBE introduced time bound section in NEET PG exam. This means candidates will have specific time to solve specific number of questions. Whole question paper is divided into 5 sections (A to E) with 40 questions each. Candidates get 42 minutes to solve each section. It must be noted candidates can't answer questions of any section till he/she exahusts allotted time (42 minutes) of previous section. 

Q:   How many questions will be there in NEET PG 2026 exam?
A: 

NEET PG 2026 question paper will have 200 questions. Total marks will be 800 marks. Students will have three and half hours solve the paper. There will be a provision of negative marking.

NEET PG 2025 question paper was difficult as compared to last year. The overall difficulty level of the question paper was  moderate to difficult. More than 80 pecent questions were based on clinical scenerio. A good number of questions were asked from topics such as Surgury, Gynaecology (OBS GYNE) and other topics. 160-170 questions were easy to attempt.

Q:   Will there be negative marking in the NEET PG exam?
A: 

Yes. Mark is deducted for each wrong answer in NEET PG. For each right answer, candidates get 4 marks and for each wrong answer, 1 mark is deducted. As there is provision of the negative marking in exam, students are advised to answer only those questions where they feel confidence of right answer.

Q:   Does NBE release analysis for NEET PG exam?
A: 

No. NBE doesn't release analysis for NEET PG. Several coaching institutes and other experts release NEET PG analysis based on memory-based questions asked from exam-taking candidates. The exam analysis helps candidates to know the tentative score in the exam. Aspirants look for exam analysis to get an idea about weightage from each subjects. 

 

Q:   Which subject in NEET PG syllabus contains maximum and minimum weightage?

NBE doesn't release the weightage for NEET PG exam. However, from last few years record, it can be said that maximum weightage is given to clinical subjects. No. Unlike NEET, NBE conducts NEET PG exam in computer-based mode. NEET PG pattern is declared by NBE along with the official information brochure. NEET PG pattern comprises details regarding mode and medium of exam, total number of questions, allotted time and marking scheme. As per the existing pattern, total 200 multiple choice questions are asked in NEET PG exam and candidates are provided 3.5 hours to answer them. Medium of the question paper is English only. There is no option to choose the language of the question paper. For every right answer, 4 marks is awarded and negative response -1 is deducted.

Q:   Will marks be deducted for unanswered questions in NEET PG?

No. Though NEET result is announced by National Testing Agency (NTA) but it doesn't declare NTEET PG result. National Board of Examinations (NBE) declares the result for NEET PG. The result is uploaded online for candidates who appear for the exam. NEET PG result is released in PDF format comprising details such as roll number, marks scored, rank etc. Candidates who score the minimum cut off are declared qualified for the exam. The qualifying cut off is different for different category. 

Q:   How to study effectively to score good rank in NEET PG exam?
A: 

Before starting NEET PG preparation, candidates need to have plan and strategies in place. Effective time management is crucial for the preparation. First of all take stock of the situation where actually you stand in terms of preparation. You should ask yourself following questions:

  • Which are the topics your are confident at
  • Which are the subjects which needs more attention
  • Which are the subjects where you need to start from scratch
