IIT Guwahati: Fees, Admission 2026, Courses, Placements, Ranking, Cutoff

NIRF ranked IIT Guwahati 7 under the “Engineering” category in 2023. According to media reports, a total of 712 students were placed till Dec 6 during IIT Guwahati placements 2024. Further, the highest international and domestic package offered during IIT Guwahati placements 2024 stood at INR 2.05 Crore per annum and INR 1.20 Crore per annum, respectively.

The tuition fee for the residential Master of Design (MDes) programme offered at IIT Guwahati is INR 20,000. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD categories are exempted from payment of tuition fees. Moreover, the total course fee will be higher and include other components such as hostel fee, admission fee, caution money deposit, etc. Further, it must be noted that the given fee is as per unofficial sources and hence is indicative.

According to the released infromation, Candidates interested in BDes admissions at IIT Guwahati must go through the UCEED exam which is conducted by IIT Bombay. A candidate can attempt UCEED for a maximum of two times.

Students must also pass all Class 12 exams with no minimum score requirements nor students have to give JEE Advanced.

Note: Students from ALL STREAMS (Science, Commerce, and Arts & Humanities) are eligible. 

For 2023, cut off was 5959 for General category candidates in All India quota for B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering in IIT Guwahati - Indian Institute of Technology. For female candidates in general category under All India quota, 11057 was the closing rank. B.Tech cut off varies depending on the category and domicile/quota of the applicant.

The important dates of UCEED 2026 cover events like the commencement and deadline to fill out the UCEED application, admit card release and exam date, result date, and seat allotment schedule. For admission to NIT or IIITs, there is no provision of qualifying marks in JEE Mains 2026 and admission is given based on All India Rank in JEE Mains exam. IIT Guwahati offers admission to all its courses on the basis of both, merit and entrance scores. IIT Guwahati accepts national-level entrance exams. The college accepts JEE Main, JEE Advanced, CAT, IIT JAM, UCEED, CEED, GATE, etc. scores for admission to its courses.

The selection of candidates for the MDes programme offered at IIT Guwahati is based on the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) conducted as a part of the central admission procedure. In addition to this, MDes aspirants need to clear the Design Aptitude Test (conducted at DoD, ITG for shortlisted candidates based on CEED) followed by a personal interview and portfolio evaluation. Yes, candidates can withdraw their admission in MBA from IIT Guwahati. If candidates withdraw admission by 20 July 2026, a sum of INR 1,000 shall be deducted from the fee deposited. 

In case of other late requests, only the refundable portion of the fee deposited shall be returned. The applicable refund amount shall be processed from IIT Guwahati in October 2026

Computer Systems:

IIT JAM 2026 counselling schedule is out. The Round 1 seat allotment result will be announced on May 25, 2026. The counselling registration will begin in March 27, 2026.

IIT Guwahati has a seat intake of 33 for a full-time Master of Design (MDes) programme of two-year duration. The institute offers 13 seats for the General category. Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati B.Des admission is based on candidates' performance in the UCEED exam, followed by a councelling process. IIT Guwahati B.Des cutoff 2023 was concluded after Round 3 Seat Allotment Result. As per the IIT Guwahati cutoff 2023, the Round 1 and the Last Round closing ranks were 11 and 14, respectively for the ST category students.
