IIT Patna Highlights 2025
IIT Patna is ranked 160 by the QS Ranking 2025 under the Asian University Rankings - Southern Asia category and 541-560 by the QS Ranking 2025 under the Asian University Rankings category. Indian Institute of Technology Patna is an esteemed Engineering institute in the country. IIT Patna has secured ranks from various national and international bodies. IIT Patna ranks 36th under the Overall category by NIRF 2025. In addition, it ranks 39th under the Research Institutions category by NIRF 2025 and 19th under the Engineering category. The Institute is one of the eight new IITs formed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. It was established in 2008. It offers courses in Engineering. IIT Patna is an Institute of National Importance (INL). IIT Patna is approved by UGC and AICTE. IIT Patna offers UG, PG and PhD courses across 10 departments. 1. IIT Patna Application Process
Candidates seeking admission at IIT Patna are required to complete the application form for the course-specific entrance exam. For example, for BTech, candidates are required to apply for JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced application. Similarly, for the MSc, IIT JAM application form is required to be completed.
2. Selection Rounds
IIT Patna admits students to BTech courses based on JEE Main and JEE Advanced scores. Candidates are allotted seats in JoSAA Counselling for BTech. Admission to MTech is through GATE followed by COAP Counselling. The institute considers IIT JAM and CCMN Counselling for MSc courses. Candidates can check with the admission office for the selection rounds of the rest of the courses.
3. Release of Cutoff list, Counselling and Admission Confirmation
The cutoff for BTech, MTech and MSc courses is released by the respective counselling bodies. For merit-based courses, IIT Patna Bihar will release the course-wise merit list on its official website. As per the merit list, candidates are called for counselling for seat allotment. Shortlisted candidates and then required to pay the admission fee to confirm their seats.

The IIT Patna Bihar 2024 cutoffs for Courses have been released for BTech, Integrated BTech, and BArch admissions. In Round 4, JoSAA cutoffs spanned from the 3074 to the 14566 values. Among these, the B.Tech. in CSE stands out as a fiercely competitive option for General category students under the AI Quota.
In a comparison of the Indian Institute of Technology IIT Patna cutoff in 2024 with that of the preceding two years, it’s observed that IIT Patna has experienced a declining pattern in its closing ranks. The Round 4 cutoff for the BTech course stood at 2722 in 2023 and 2536 in 2022.

Yes, IIT Patna currently has two boy’s hostels and one girl’s hostel that provide comfortable accommodation and are located close to the academic area. There are two married scholar’s apartments (located near campus) for PhD and Master’s students. The hostels are located in a peaceful, clean, and aesthetic environment on campus.
