NIRF 2025 Rankings are out. As per the latest NIRF 2025 rankings, IIT Jammu ranks 56th under the category 'Engineering'.

The GATE 2026 application process is currently open for admission to ME/MTech courses. The last date to apply without fine fee has been extended to Oct 6, 2025. The GATE 2026 exam will be held on Feb 7, Feb 8, Feb 14, and Feb 15, 2026.

The JEE Main 2026 registration process for the first session for IIT Jammu admission to BTech, BArch, and BPlan courses is expected to begin in Nov 2025.

IIT Jammu Highlights 2025

Established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, GoI in 2016, IIT Jammu is a public/government college In 2018 it shifted the primary operations from its temporary campus in Paloura to the main campus in Jagti, Nagrota. Currently IIT Jammu offers PG, UG, PhD, and other courses through 11 departments across Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, and other streams.

It is one of the esteemed institutes in Jammu and Kashmir and has ranked at 56 by the NIRF 2025 under the Engineering category. It was mentored by IIT Delhi in its initial phases. The State Government of Jammu and Kashmir has provided land of 400 acres for the permanent campus. The Jammu IIT also has an Innovation and Incubation Centre on the campus that fosters the entrepreneurial spirit of the students. It was established under the MHRD’s Innovation Cell (MIC).

IIT Jammu Admission Process and Important Dates 2025

The mode of IIT Jammu course admissions is online. Admission to various courses is based on entrance exam scores such as JEE Main, JEE Advanced, and merit. There is no limit to the no. of times a person appears for the IIT JAM exam. IIT Jammu admission process is mentioned below:

Step 1: IIT Jammu Application Process

Candidates willing to be admitted to any of the programmes offered at IIT Jammu must fill out the application for the prescribed entrance exams based on which they will be selected for further admission process. Given below are the application forms required for different programmes at IIT Jammu:
For admission to the BTech and BSc/ BS programmes, candidates must fill out the application form for JEE-Main and JEE-Advanced exams through the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) (nta.ac.in).
Also, for admission to the MTech programmes, candidates need to appear for the GATE exam by filling out the application form through the official website of the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) (appsgate.iitd.ac.in).
For E-MTech and PhD, students are required to apply via the official website of IIT Kashmir.

Step 2: IIT Jammu Selection Criteria and Final Seat Allotment

The students must undergo the course-specific IIT Jammu Campus admissions test, such as for the BTech programme candidates are required to have valid scores in JEE-Main and JEE-Advanced. Once the selection round has been completed, they have to take part in a course-related counselling process leading up to an end allocation of seats. Selected candidates will be required to report to the IIT Jammu admissions 2024 cell at the institute for document verification and tuition fee payment leading to final seat allotment.
