NIFT Exam Analysis 2023 of CAT written exam (Shift 2)

The Creative Ability Test (CAT) was conducted on February 5, 2023, from 1.30-4.30 pm. CAT is a sketching-based exam that is conducted in an offine mode. Check exam analysis of the paper here.

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) conducted the NIFT exam on February 5, 2023. The entrance exam is conducted in two shifts for the B.Des and M.Des courses. The 1st part is the General Ability Test (GAT), and the 2nd shift is the Creative Ability Test (CAT). Both parts are mandatory. The GAT was conducted from 9.30-11.30 am, while the GAT was held from 1.30-4.30 pm. In this article, we bring you the detailed exam analysis of the NIFT 2023 CAT paper.

NIFT 2023 Student Reactions and Exam Analysis

Admission to B.Des and M.Des courses at NIFT 2023 participating institutes is a two-step process. The candidate has to first appear in the written exams - CAT and GAT.

The scores of the written exams are then used to shortlist candidates for the next admission round - Situation Test (for the B.Des program) and Personal Interview (PI) (for the M.Des program).

The final merit list of NIFT 2023 will be prepared by giving weightage to both the written tests and Situation Test/ PI.

She found the CAT paper easy.

• Questions related to shapes and lines were asked.
• The comic strip was also easier this year.
• As far as GAT is concerned, the paper was not very difficult, though there were more paragraph-based questions. The paper had more questions from English and also a few questions from GK.
• Maths part I found a bit difficult.
• The overall difficulty level of the exam was moderate.

Here is Ananya, a B.Des applicant

According to her, the CAT paper was pretty easy and also not lengthy. The GAT paper was also easy, with a few exceptions in the maths section.

The GK section included an ISRO-related question.

Overall, the paper was easy.

Given the paper was easy, the cut-off would be high.

The paper was very easy, especially compared to last year.

The English section was easier than last year,

In CAT, you can have to make designs of letterboxes, phones, automobile, etc.

Logical reasoning had the maximum number of questions; especially the maths-based ones.

The GAT paper wasn’t lengthy.

As far as technical issues in the GAT paper are concerned, I didn't face any. A few students did face some technical issues.

What next?

The scores of CAT and GAT written exams will be used to shortlist candidates for the next admission round - Situation Test / Personal Interview.

The Studio Test for the B.Des program and Personal Interviews for the M.Des program will be conducted in April 2023; the test will be conducted at NIFT Campuses.

The final NIFT results will be announced in May 2023.
