The selection of candidates for the MDes programme offered at IIT Guwahati is based on the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) conducted as a part of the central admission procedure. In addition to this, MDes aspirants need to clear the Design Aptitude Test (conducted at DoD, ITG for shortlisted candidates based on CEED) followed by a personal interview and portfolio evaluation. For 2023, cut off was 5959 for General category candidates in All India quota for B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering in IIT Guwahati - Indian Institute of Technology. For female candidates in general category under All India quota, 11057 was the closing rank. B.Tech cut off varies depending on the category and domicile/quota of the applicant.
Admission to M.Tech at IITG is entirely based on GATE score. Candidates with a GATE rank between 600 and 800 and a score between 400 and 800 will have a good chance for getting admitted in an MTech course at IITG. However, as the cutoff marks change for every admission year, hence, the number can vary. A relaxation in the required cutoff is given to the candidates belonging to reserved categories.
Qualifying marks for JEE Mains 2026, also called qualifying percentile for JEE Mains will be announced by the NTA along with the JEE Main 2026 session 2 result. JEE Advanced exam conducted by IIT Madras. Candidates can appear in JEE Advanced two consecutive times. JEE Advanced is held in CBT mode and there are 2 papers in all. Each paper has 3 sections: Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Candidates have to attempt both papers 1 and 2 to be eligible for admission to the IITs. IIT Guwahati offers three specialisations under the two-year MSc programme with a seat intake of 180. The institute offers the MSc programme in Chemistry, Mathematics & Computing, and Physics with a seat intake of 60 per specialisation. Admission to all these courses is done through a common process.
