What is GE-PI-WAT?

The SIBM or SNAP GE-PI-WAT is slightly different from that of other MBA colleges, thus the aspirants need to understand the GE-PI-WAT round well to be able to crack it. Let's understand what is SNAP GE-PI-WAT.

Group Exercise:  Group Exercise or GE is similar to a group discussion. However, in a GE, the candidates are not give a topic to discuss. They are given a case to discuss and come up with solutions. The case is usually based on Marketing, Human Resource, Finance, and Operations.

The candidates are grouped into batches of 8-10. Each batch is given 20 minutes to discuss the topic and present a solution. This is an assessment of team work.

Personal Interaction: This round is a face-to-face interaction with a panel comprising academics, teachers and industry experts. The questions range from ‘why MBA’ to field of interest, work experience hobbies to future plans.

Writing Ability Test: In the Writing Ability Test or WAT, candidates are given a topic to write a short passage of 100-200 word. The time duration of WAT in SIU admissions is 5-10 minutes.

The best way to practice for GE is by reading about Marketing, Human Resource, Finance and Operations fields. Read reports and case studies to understand how to make a plans and solutions. While participating in the Group Exercise, candidates must keep the following in mind:

  • Listen to every participant’s point of view
  • Make your point when it is your turn. Do not interrupt others when they are speaking
  • Speak softly yet firmly. Do not shout or show aggression
  • Stick to the points and facts when making an argument
  • Remember the time is less so make to the point argument

In, the personal interview or PI round, candidate’s are judged on their interpersonal skills, knowledge and confidence. Don’t be hassled, they do so to see how you handle a tricky situation. After all, problem solving is key to business management.

  • Give your answers honestly. If you don’t know the answer to any question, say you don’t know. Don’t beat around the bush in an attempt to make an impression.
  • Read your Curriculum Vitae (CV) and remember what all have you mentioned in it, as the PI panel will start the conversation with questions on the basis of your CV only.
  • Revise the topics that were a part of your degree course and brush up the knowledge of your area of work (in your previous job).
  • Read thoroughly about current business and economy related issues and the Union budget.
