NEET PG 2025 counselling dates and schedule will be released anytime soon. MCC will release the counselling dates along with the information brochure online. Registration for round-1 NEET PG 2025 counselling is expected to begin in the third week of October 2025. In a hearing on September 26, the Supreme Court provided two weeks to NBE to file a response in the`answer key transparency matter. The court will take up the matter by October 15, 2025. Candidates had filed plea, opposing NBE's decision not to release entire question paper along with the answer key. Meanwhile, NBE has uploaded a list of 13 candidates whose results have been withheld due to malparctice.

Candidates have to register and declare choices for NEET PG counselling at mcc.nic.in. Candidates who qualify with the minimum cutoff marks can participate in NEET PG 2025 counselling. NEET PG 2025 cutoff scores have been dropped this year for all categories. Last year a total of 25,791 seats were allocated through counselling.

What is NEET PG?

NEET PG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post-Graduation), is conducted for providing admission to various MD (Doctor of Medicine)/ MS (Master of Surgery) and PG Diploma courses across the country. The National Board of Examinations (NBE) conducts the exam once a year in computer-based mode. The scores are also used for taking admission to postgraduate MBBS DNB courses. The exam is conducted for 13,649 MS seats, 26,168 MD seats, and 922 PG Diploma seats offered by various medical colleges in India

Q:   If I will get seat in round-2 NEET PG counselling, will first round allotted seat get cancelled?
A: 

Yes. If you will be allotted seat in round-2 NEET PG counselling, your round-1 allotted seat will be automatically get cancelled. In case you don't get allotted seat in round-2, then round-1 seat will not be cancelled. Candidates have to register online and declare preferences of choice for NEET PG counselling. It must be noted, MCC conducts counselling for allotment of 50% AIQ seats.

Q:   Do I need to declare choice for NEET PG counselling?
A: 

Yes. Candidates will have to declare preferences of choices for each round of NEET PG counselling after registration. It must be noted registration and choices can be declared online. At the same time, choices must be locked in the given deadline otherwise it gets locked automatically. Based on declared choices, seat availablity, NEET PG rank, seats will be allotted.

Q:   Has NBE uploaded scorecards for NEET PG 2025?
A: 

Yes. NBE uploaded NEET PG 2025 scorecards on August 29, 2025. candidates who qualified NEET PG 2025 exam can download scorecards from official website, nbe.edu.in. They will have to enter login details in registration page to download scorecards for NEET PG 2025. The scorecard PDF comprises details such as roll number, All India rank, mark scored, total number of right and wrong response etc.

Q:   How many attempts are allowed in NEET PG?
A: 

NBE, the exam conducting body has not specified any limit regarding number of attempts in NEET PG exam. At the same time, there is no age limit for the exam. Candidates can appear as many times as they want in their prusuit of postgraduate medical courses. Candidates are advised to check the official information brochure, comprising the eligibility criteria and other crucial details related to exam.

Q:   Is NEET PG compulsory after MBBS?
A: 

Yes. NEET PG is compulsory for those candidates who want to pursue postgraduate medical courses. Those who qualify the exam with the minimum cut off become eligible to participate in the counsleling for seat allotment. Q:   How many candidates appear for NEET PG?
A: 

Around 2 Lakh candidates appear for NEET PG every year. The number varies every year. Around 2.40 lakh candidates had appeared in NEET PG 2025 exam. A total of 2,28,540 candidates appeared for the NEET PG 2024 exam. In NEET PG 2023, around 2,06,541 candidates appeared for the exam. NEET PG 2025 exam was held on August 3 and result was announced on August 19, 2025.

NEET PG 2025 Counselling

Only those who will qualify NEET PG 2025 exam with the minimum cut off percentile will be eligible to participate in the counselling for NEET PG 2025. NEET PG counselling comprises steps such as online registration, paying fee, filling preferences for college and course, seat allotment result, and reporting. Candidates must note that MCC conducts counselling for the allotment of 50% All India Quota seats while respective state counselling authorities conduct counselling for rest 50% seats. A total of 4 rounds of counselling is held for AIQ seat allotment. MCC conducts NEET PG counselling for admission to MD/MS/Diploma courses.

The process of NEET PG counselling involves registration, choice filling for college/course, seat allotment result, and reporting to the allotted institute. Admissions to the MD/MS/DNB course will be finalised on the basis of the counselling. MCC conducts NEET PG counselling for 50 per cent AIQ, Deemed/Central Universities, ESIC/AFMS institutes. The respective state counselling authority are conducting the counselling session for the rest of the 50 per cent seats.

 

Online Registration for Counselling 

Aspirants are required to register themselves on the official website of MCC and fill the application form to participate in the NEET PG 2024 counselling. Only those candidates who will register on the official website of MCC will be able to participate in the NEET 2025 counselling. Qualifying NEET PG 2025 exam is compulsory for participating in the counselling. The application/registration process for counselling involves the following steps:

  • Creating a profile on the official website of MCC

  • Completing the application form of NEET PG 2025 counselling 

  • Uploading the required documents

  • Depositing the application fee for counselling (credit card/ debit card/ net banking)

  • Choice filling and locking

  • Printing a copy of the duly filled application form

NEET PG Reservation: The Revised Criteria

In 2021, Centre had approved 27 and 10 per cent NEET PG reservations for OBC and EWS candidates respectively in 50 per cent All India Quota seats. Candidates who belong to the OBC category (non-creamy layer) as per the Central OBC list, will compete for 50 per cent seats in government medical and dental colleges across the country via AIQ. Candidates don't need the domicile of any particular state for admission to 50 per cent AIQ seats. Similarly, those who belong to EWS (Economic Weaker Section) will be eligible for 10 per cent quota in NEET PG admission. Candidates of both categories need to produce the relevant documents at the time of admission. For candidates of SC and ST categories, there is already a reservation of 15 and 7.5 per cent respectively in NEET PG admission.

NEET PG 2025 Merit List

On the basis of the result, NBE prepares a NEET PG merit list. NBE has released merit list for All India 50% quota seats on August 27, 2025. According to which seat allotment process takes place. The higher the position in the merit list better the college candidates get. NBE prepares the merit list on the basis of various criteria. Below are the four criteria upon which merit list will be prepared:

  • All India rank in the exam

  • All India 50 per cent quota rank

  • All India 50 per cent category rank

  • State quota or private medical colleges/ AFMS Rank

Q:   I have registered for round 1 of NEET PG counselling. Should I register again for round 2/mop up round?
A: 

No, online registration for NEET PG counselling is a one-time process. Those who have already registered once don't need to register again. Only those candidates who have not registered themselves during round 1 need to register for the round 2/mop-up round. Registration can be done in any round except last one on the official website. Mcc. Nic. In. Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts counselling for allotment of 50% All India Quota seats.

Q:   Has MCC announced NET PG 2025 counselling schedule for seat allocation?

NEET PG 2025 result was released online in PDF format on August 19, 2025. Candidates have to score the minimum cutoff to qualify for NEET PG 2025 exam. NEET PG 2025 qualifying cut off for general category is 50 while for SC/ST, it is 45. NBE uploaded scorecards on August 29, 2025. No. NBE doesn't release analysis for NEET PG. Several coaching institutes and other experts release NEET PG analysis based on memory-based questions asked from exam-taking candidates. The exam analysis helps candidates to know the tentative score in the exam. Aspirants look for exam analysis to get an idea about weightage from each subjects.

NEET PG 2025 Admit Card

NEET PG 2025 admit card was released online on July 31, 2025. The admit card contains important personal and exam related details such as name and address of allotted exam centre. The city intimation slip was released on July 21, 2025. Candidates were provided the name of the city through sms. Candidates have to download NEET PG admit card from the official website. NEET PG 2025 admit card have to be downloaded with login credentials. Candidates are advised to check all the information carefully after downloading the hall ticket from the official website of NBE. NEET PG 2025 exam was held on, August 3, 2025, in computer-based mode. NBE conducted exam in single shift in 233 test cities across country. Candidates must print a copy of the admit card and affix a latest passport size photograph on it. The admit card should be preserved until the admission process gets over. Specifications of the photograph are as under:

  • A photograph of a minimum of 35 mm x 45 mm with at least 75 per cent coverage of the face & head of the candidate
  • A caption with the name of the aspirant along with the date of taking photograph at the bottom of the photo
  • The photograph should have been taken in a white /very light-coloured background
  • The photograph needs to be printed on high-quality paper with at least 600 dpi resolutions
  • The colours must possess the natural appearance and skin tone
  • The photograph must not have kinks, scratches, and stains
  • Photograph with reflection or shadow on the face with red eyes should be avoided

NEET PG 2025 Exam Day Guidelines

  • The exam timing and other details will be released by NBE along with the admit card
  • Candidates are advised to reach the exam centre on or before reporting time menioned in admit card.
  • It is mandatory for all the candidates to go through the security procedures.
  • Electronics such as calculators, smartwatch, pagers, etc. are prohibited in the exam hall.
  • Candidates are advised not to carry bags, books, pens, pencil boxes, writing pad, etc. to the exam centre.

NEET PG 2025 Pattern

Candidates need to know NEET PG 2025 exam pattern as it helps candidates in preparation. The exam pattern for NEET PG comprises details about the test paper, comprising the mode, medium, number of the question paper, duration of time, and the marking scheme. NEET PG 2025 exam was held in online mode. The question paper had 200 multiple choice questions, and candidates were given 3.5 hours to answer them. Q:   What is the total and sectional duration of NEET PG exam?
A: 

The total duration of NEET PG exam is 3.5 hours or 210 minutes. In 2024, NBE introduced time bound section in NEET PG exam. This means candidates will have specific time to solve specific number of questions. Whole question paper is divided into 5 sections (A to E) with 40 questions each. Candidates get 42 minutes to solve each section. It must be noted candidates can't answer questions of any section till he/she exahusts allotted time (42 minutes) of previous section. 

Q:   How many questions are asked in NEET PG exam?
A: 

NEET PG exam comprises of 200 multiple choice questions with each question having 4 response options in English language only. Candidates are required to select the correct/best/most appropriate response/answer out of the 4 response options provided in each question. Time allotted is 3 hrs 30 minutes. There is a provision of negative marking in the exam. In the wake of negative marking, candidates are advised to attempt only those questions where they have full confidence of correct answer. Otherwise negative marks may outweigh your overall score. 

Q:   What is the pattern of NEET PG exam?
A: 

NEET PG pattern comprises details about exam mode, medium, total number of questions, allotted time, and marking scheme. NBE conducts NEET PG exam in computer-based mode. The medium of the exam is English only. Candidates don't have option to select any other language in NEET PG exam.

A total of 200 multiple choice questions are asked and candidates get 3.5 hours to answer them. According to the marking scheme, for every right answer, 4 marks are awarded while for wrong response -1 mark is deducted. No mark will be awarded/deduced for unanswered question.

NEET PG application form process involves steps such as registration, filling up details in the application form, paying exam fee, and uploading documents. The application process starts with registration. Only those candidates who register themselves on the official website of NBE, nbe.edu.in can submit the application form for NEET PG. A login ID and password will be generated after the successful NEET PG registration 2025 process. To complete the application process, candidates have to upload scanned copies of photographs and signatures. These images must be as per the specifications mentioned by NBE. Candidates will have to pay a non-refundable application fee to complete NEET PG applications 2025. NEET PG 2025 registration began on April 17, 2025. May 7 was the deadline to submit NEET PG 2025 application form.

Candidates who wish to apply for the exam or who wish to participate in the counselling process must check the eligibility criteria before applying for it. NBE releases NEET PG eligibility criteria along with the information brochure. NEET PG eligibility criteria have been summarised below:

  • Aspirants must possess an MBBS degree/provisional Pass Certificate which is recognised as per the provisions of the Indian Medical Council Act 1956 
  • They should also possess a permanent/ provisional registration certificate of MBBS qualification issued by the Medical Council of India or State Medical Council
  • They must have completed the duration of their internship on or before July 31, 2025

Yes. Candidates can change date of birth in NEET PG application form using correction window. Q:   Can NEET PG be cracked by studying at home?
A: 

Yes. NEET PG can be cracked by self preparation at home. But it needs well-planned strategies in place. Candidates will have to put a lot of hard work and dedication. Candidates will have to revise everything that has been taught during the 4.5 years of MBBS degree course. Some of the tips for NEET PG preparation at home have been provided below:

  • Go through the syllabus first
  • Know the paper pattern and marking scheme
  • Start with basics
  • Prepare a time table and stick to it
  • Make notes and highlight important information

Q:   What is the duration of NEET PG counselling?
A: 

The duration of NEET PG counselling depends on number of vacant seats after each round. Usually, the counselling process goes on for over two months time. Each round of NEET PG counselling takes around 15-20 days time starting from registration to reporting. Initial rounds takes a bit more time than last rounds. Candidates have to register online and declare choice for college and course for seat allotment. Registration can be done on the official website. A total of 4 rounds of counselling is held for seat allotment. Based on choice declared by candidates, available seats, NEET PG rank, reservation factor etc. seats are allotted to candidates.

Q:   What is application fee for NEET PG 2025?
A: 

Application fee and other details is released by NBE. The fee remains the same as it was last year. In 2024, the application fee was reduced by INR 750 for each category. With reduced fee, candidates had to pay INR 3500 for general category while for SC/ST candidates had to pay INR 2500. Earlier candidates had to pay INR 4200 application fee for general category. It must be noted that paying exam fee is mandatory to submit NEET PG 2025 application form. 

Q:   Will there be negative marking in the NEET PG exam?
A: 

Yes. According to the exam pattern, mark is deducted for each wrong answer in NEET PG exam. For each right answer, candidates get 4 marks and for each wrong answer, -1 mark is deducted. As there is a provision of the negative marking in the exam, candidates are advised to answer only those questions where they have confidence of right answer, otherwise negative marking may put toll on overall score. 

Q:   Which are the institutes that do not accept NEET PG scores for admission?
A: 

15 AIIMS including AIIMS New Delhi, PGIMER Chandigarh, JIPMER, Puducherry, NIMHANS Bengaluru, SGPGI Lucknow, and Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Trivandrum do not accept NEET PG scores. A separate exam is conducted for admission at these institutes, i.e INI CET. The exam is conducted twice in a year in computer-based mode.

Q:   Who conducts counselling for NEET PG?
A: 

NEET PG counselling is conducted by Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The counselling is held online for seat allotment. It must be noted online registration and choice declaration is mandatory to participate in the counselling process. Candidates are advised to keep a track of official website of MCC to know all the updates regarding seat allotment proces. 

Q:   Who can fill the NEET PG application form?
A: 

NEET PG 2025 application form can be filled by all the eligible candidates. NBE will release the eligibility criteria with the official information brochure. Aspirants must possess an MBBS degree/provisional Pass Certificate. They should also have a permanent/ provisional registration certificate of MBBS qualification. Candidates are advised to read all the eligibility requirements carefully for the exam. The application form is released online and candidates have to submit it there only.

Q:   Does NBE conduct NEET PG in pen and paper mode?

No. Unlike NEET, NBE conducts NEET PG exam in computer-based mode. NEET PG pattern is declared by NBE along with the official information brochure. NEET PG pattern comprises details regarding mode and medium of exam, total number of questions, allotted time and marking scheme. As per the existing pattern, total 200 multiple choice questions are asked in NEET PG exam and candidates are provided 3.5 hours to answer them. Medium of the question paper is English only. There is no option to choose the language of the question paper. For every right answer, 4 marks is awarded and negative response -1 is deducted.

Q:   How difficult is the NEET PG?
A: 

NEET PG is a higher-level exam with a high level of competition. The NEET PG exam syllabus is extensive and covers all 19 subjects that a medico studies during the MBBS. The student's preparation time is also limited, and they must balance coursework and an internship.

This leaves little to no time to prepare for the NEET PG. A student works an internship at a hospital before the NEET PG exam, and the shifts are unpredictable. A lack of preparation time combined with intense competition makes NEET PG a difficult nut to crack. At the same time, it is not impossible task to score well in the exam. Candidates only need proper preparation, planning, and consistent efforts. What matters is that you believe in yourself and work towards your goal.
