Top Medical PG Branches: Elligibility Criteria for Admission
Students have to appear in NEET PG exam and qualify it with minimum cutoff for admission to top medical PG branches. Once students clear the exam, then they have to participate in NEET PG counselling for allocation of seats. MCC conducts counselling for allotment of 50% All India quota seats while respective state authorities conduct counselling for rest seats. Round-1 counselling result was announced on November 22, 2025.
Around 2 Lakh candidates appear for NEET PG every year. The number varies every year. Around 2.40 lakh candidates had appeared in NEET PG 2025 exam. A total of 2,28,540 candidates appeared for the NEET PG 2024 exam. In NEET PG 2023, around 2,06,541 candidates appeared for the exam. NEET PG 2025 exam was held on August 3 and result was announced on August 19, 2025.
Candidates can appear for as many times as they want. There is no cap on the number of attempts in NEET PG exam. As per the experts, candidates may appear twice for the exam to improve the score or to do away mistakes in the first attempt. NEET PG exam is held in computer-based mode. Candidates who qualify the exam with the minimum cut off can participate in the counselling process. They have to register and declare choice for college to participate in the seat allocation process.

Radiologists are those who diagnose and suggest corrective measures after studying different scans like CT, MRI etc. Annual average income after finishing MD course in radiology is around 50 lakh to 1 crore.
Dermatology: This branch is second preference of maximum students who clears NEET PG exam. Dermatology deals with skin, nail and hair. MD course in dermatology remains in demand due to increasing popularity of aesthetic and cosmetics services these days among urban people. Cosmetic treatments are used for skin diseases, acne, hair loss etc. Annual salary of dermatologist ranges from 20 to 30 lakh.
General Medicine: General medicine is evergreen branch, which maximum students love and want to make career in it. The reason being it deals with generic lifestyle diseases such as hypertension, sugar, thyroid, obesity etc. General Physicians diagnose disease at early stage and suggest corrective measures including medicine and precautions. They generally earn around 10 to 20 lakh per annum.
Pediatrics: As India has a large child population, one can understand demand of childcare. Pediatrics have expertise to improve overall health of children and infants. Students can do further specialization in neonatology or pediatric cardiology. They typically earns from 8-12 lakh annually.

Top Medical PG Branches in 2025: General Medicine Top Preference
Generally, Radiology rules the chart of top medical PG branches, but this time, general medicine has taken top slot. In recently released round-1 seat allotment, general medicine was preferred choice of top 10 All India Rankers. Out of 100 top rankers, 46 had chosen General Medicine and 40 had preferred Radiology. Dermatology was preferred by three students alike OBG and general surgery.
500 plus marks is considered a decent score in NEET PG exam. If a candidate score 535 marks that means his/her rank will be somewhere around 1000-2000. With that score, there is a chance to get admission in government college. Good score also depends on difficulty level of the question paper. If the question paper is difficult then cut off will be low. In 2023-24 session, general category cut off was 291 while the cut off for SC/ST was 257. Overall 500 plus marks will enable you to get admission in good college for PG course.
No, you cannot appear in regional language in NEET PG exam. According to the NEET PG pattern, the examination is conducted in the English language only. All aspirants must refer to the question papers of previous years for NEET PG 2025 preparation. The examination will be held online (computer-based) at allocated centres across the country. A total of 200 multiple choice questions will be asked in the exam and candidates will get 3.5 hours to answer them.
