Top Medical PG Branches: Elligibility Criteria for Admission
Students have to appear in NEET PG exam and qualify it with minimum cutoff for admission to top medical PG branches. Once students clear the exam, then they have to participate in NEET PG counselling for allocation of seats. MCC conducts counselling for allotment of 50% All India quota seats while respective state authorities conduct counselling for rest seats. Round-1 counselling result was announced on November 22, 2025.

500 plus marks is considered a decent score in NEET PG exam. If a candidate score 535 marks that means his/her rank will be somewhere around 1000-2000. With that score, there is a chance to get admission in government college. Good score also depends on difficulty level of the question paper. If the question paper is difficult then cut off will be low. In 2023-24 session, general category cut off was 291 while the cut off for SC/ST was 257. Overall 500 plus marks will enable you to get admission in good college for PG course.
Candidates may or may not get test city of their choice in NEET PG. Though the exam conducting body tries to allot candidate the exam city of their preference but sometimes it is not possible as the allotment is done on first come first serve basis. National Board of Examinations (NBE) releases cut off for NEET PG. It must be noted the cut off is releases along with NEET PG result. Candidates have to score minimum cut off to qualify for the exam. The minimum cut off is different for different category. For the general category, the minimum qualifying cut off is 50 percentile marks while for SC/ST, the qualifying cut off is 40. The cut off depends on a number of factors including the difficulty level of the exam, number of candidates appeared etc.

In recently released round-1 seat allotment, general medicine was preferred choice of top 10 All India Rankers. Out of 100 top rankers, 46 had chosen General Medicine and 40 had preferred Radiology. Such decisions will be taken in consultation with the Medical Council of India and will be informed to the test-takers via an official notification. In 2023, MCC had reduced NEET PG cut off percentile to zero for all category for stray vacancy round counselling. MCC had reduced cut off for 2024-25 session as well. Reduction of NEET PG cut off depends on many factors including number of vacant seats to be filled up.
Yes. NBE reduces NEET PG cut off in case seats remain vacant after counseling rounds. Reducation of cut off makes more number of candidates eligible to participate in the counselling who were earlier ineligible due to low score. NEET PG 2025 cut off percentile has been reduced for each category.
The National Board of Examinations (NBE) releases the list of centres for NEET PG. Candidates have to choose a preference of the exam centre while applying online for the exam. NBE will allot the exact name and address with the admit card. Candidates will have to download the admit card once the exam-conducting body activates the link online.

Yes, for postgraduate medical courses like MD and MS, colleges accept NEET PG scores. For super-specialty courses, NEET SS is required. MBBS admission, however, is based only on NEET UG.

No. NEET-PG is mandatory for all MD admissions in India across all colleges, government, private, deemed, and central institutions. There is no alternative entrance exam or direct admission route for MD. Even foreign nationals of Indian origin need to qualify in the relevant entrance process.
