In case you have gap years in your academic tenure, or in between taking the qualifying exam and clearing the NEET exam, it is important that you get this document generated before the commencement of the NEET UG counselling process 2025.

Q:   What is the exam pattern of NEET?
A:

NEET or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is a paper-and-pencil-based test (PBT) of three hours or 180 minutes duration. There will be a total of 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), all of which will be compulsory to attempt. The syllabus of the exam consists of Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects. The Biology subject is segregated between Zoology and Botany. On the other hand, the Chemistry subject is segregated into Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry. Unlike last year, the subjects will not be divided into two sections.

According to the marking scheme, each correct question carries 4 marks, and there is a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer. No marks will be awarded or deducted for unattempted questions. The following table brings the structure of the NEET exam.

SectionsNumber of QuestionsTotal Marks
Physics Section 45180
Chemistry Section 45180
Botany Section45180
Zoology Section45180
Q:   Has the NEET 2025 exam pattern changed?
A:

Yes, the NEET 2025 exam pattern has been changed. NTA announced the change in the exam pattern on January 25, 2025, to enable candidates prepare accordingly. The optional questions have been removed. Instead of 200 questions, there will now be 180 questions. The total duration of NEET 2025 has been reduced from 200 minutes to 180 minutes or three hours now. Announcing the same, NTA has stated, “Aspirants are hereby informed that the question paper pattern and examination duration will revert to the pre-COVID format. where there will not be any Section B anymore. Hence, there will be a total of 180 compulsory questions (45 questions each in Physics and Chemistry and 90 in Biology) which will be attempted by the candidates in 180 minutes thereby removing any optional questions and extra time introduced due to COVID.”

Q:   Which is the toughest section as per NEET 2023 analysis?
A:
The NEET 2023 exam takers unanimously named Chemistry to be the toughest section this year. Till last year, Physics was the toughest section and candidates had prepared accordingly. But this year, Chemistry appeared as a surprise element for them. In this subject, Organic Chemistry had the highest weightage followed by Inorganic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry. Chapters or units from which majority questions came were Chemical Bonding, Reaction Mechanism, Carboxylic acid and Derivatives, IUPAC nomenclature, among others. Apart from Chemistry. Botany was another subject which was deemed tough by the students.

The probable reasons for taking a gap or drop before qualifying for the NEET exam include pursuing another course, taking drop year for preparation or repeating a year after an unsuccessful attempt in NEET, financial or medical reasons, moving to a different state or country, among others. In case you are unable to produce the NEET UG Gap Certificate, the admission offer may get nullified.

Q:   Was there any change in the NEET 2023 exam analysis as compared to last year?
A:
Although the NEET 2023 exam pattern remained the same as last year, there have been various changes as compared to that of last year. The difficulty level of NEET 2023 was easy to moderate. While Physics was the toughest section last year, this year it was termed as an easy section by experts and students. Chemistry on the other hand, was the toughest section this year. Last year, the difficulty level of this section was easy to moderate. The Biology section difficulty level was more or less the same this year as well, which was easy to moderate. Among the two subjects, Botany was comparatively tougher than Zoology. The distribution of questions from Class 11 and Class 12 was also similar to last year.
Q:   What is the format for the NEET exam?
A:

The format for NEET exam is a total of 180 question with total 720 marks. Four marks will be awarded for a right answer and one mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. The questions will be objective type that is MCQ based. 90 questions will be from Biology including Zoology and Botany both, and 45 questions each from Physics and 45 Chemistry. Each subject will be divided into two sections. The syllabus will be that of Class 11 and Class 12 CBSE syllabus.

A:

Yes, it is mandatory to appear for the ToGIGE even if the candidates have appeared for the NEET exam. The ToGIGE is a part of the selection process post the NEET exam. Those aspirants who clear the NEET cutoff are only eligible to appear for this test.
