B.Tech. in Energy Engineering - Batch of 2029
4.2
Really beautiful campus- IITG.
Placements: A batch of 17 students graduated in 2026. This was the first batch of energy engineering to pass out from IITG. I have heard placements of a few of them. I'm expecting around 10-12 students to get placed. The highest package might be around 40 LPA, and the average might be 15 LPA.
Infrastructure: Hostel facilities are poor, definitely below average. The girls' hostel is slightly better. The library and academic blocks are maintained well in our college. It has good research facilities. Mess is also good for the price we pay. It's very cheap. The campus also has a 24/7 hospital. They provide us with medical insurance, too. Medicine is free up to 2 LPA.
Faculty: The difficulty of the course and its exams depends mainly on the professor. Some of them are very strict, some are lenient. The curriculum is relevant. First-year courses are mostly common. From the second year onwards, the courses related to your branch will be taught. The pass percentage is normally high.

College Life at India's Most Beautiful Campus.
Placements: Placements at IIT Guwahati are excellent, especially in the tech field, with high placement rates and strong average packages, generally 30 LPA. Top companies regularly visit the campus. After completing the course, if I do not get placed on campus, which is hardly possible, I'll look for other off-campus placements.
Infrastructure: At the IIT Guwahati campus, life is vibrant with active clubs and major fests like Alcheringa and Techniche. Social life is so strong through hostel interactions, and infrastructure is modern and well - equipped. At IIT Guwahati, nightlife is moderate and mostly campus-based. Students stay active late with hostel hangout and night canteens, gaming, group studies, etc. However, outside options are limited due to the remote location, so it's not like city nightlife in metro cities.
Faculty: The faculty-to-student ratio is 1:12 - 1:15, with overall faculty interaction as decent, with many professors available for any kind of help. The institute has highly qualified faculty, especially in the teaching field. Each semester includes mid-term exams, end-term exams, with quizzes and assignments, and the difficulty range from moderate to high, but can be managed through consistency.
Other: I chose IIT Guwahati because of a strong IIT brand, excellent placements, and comparatively lower fees. Compared to other IIT's, it provided a good campus experience and less academic pressure. Compared to other NIT's, private colleges, IIT Guwahati stands out in every field. If one couldn't make it to the IITs, it's because one is not eligible after the JEE Advanced rank, as competition is very intense. The admission process involves JEE Advanced after qualifying JEE Main, followed by centralized counseling through JoSAA.

IIT Guwahati M.Tech CSE review.
Placements: Almost all students from our course were placed in different MNCs. The highest package offered in our course was Rs. 1.02 crores. The average package was around 22 LPA. The lowest package was 10 LPA. Top recruiting companies were Google, Microsoft, Oracle, etc.
Infrastructure: The facilities and infrastructure available for our course were good. A modern classroom, Wi-Fi facility, and library with a good collection of books were available. Labs were well-equipped with instruments. A medical facility was available. The canteen and mess food was good. The sports ground was very well maintained.
Faculty: Teachers were helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. The teaching quality of our faculty members was project-oriented. The course curriculum was relevant. Students became career-oriented and were ready for industrial jobs. The semester examination was moderate.

You have to qualify CSIR NET exam.
Placements: Placements are good in the institute. If you want a job, then you will definitely get it without any doubt. If you want an internship, then you will get it too. You would also get to go to a foreign conference during your stay at IIT. Students are placed in different pharmaceutical industries, chemical industries, or in government or private institutions as lecturers.
Infrastructure: Canteen run from 9 AM to 3 AM (Each hostel has a canteen). The library runs 24/7 (Each hostel has a library, and we also have a central library). There is no restriction to roam inside the campus at all times. The sports facilities are damn good. There are grounds and courts for every sport and game. There is much encouragement. We have quite a good number of competitions, like inter IIT. The classroom has every facility, projectors (2), a blackboard, and good, comfortable chairs to sit. The hostel is good. Mess food is average.
Faculty: The course curriculum is awesome here. There are many internal and external assessments. You would learn a lot after getting admission to IIT. They also train students for practical skills for an overall assessment. I don't know other departments, but the research facilities are good in the Chemistry department. They are also getting good publications. In my view, research facilities here are the best in comparison to other IIT's. The total number of professors is around 30 or more in the department. The average age of professors is 40, and they are highly qualified professionals. Most if they did their Ph.D. from foreign universities.

Strong academics, good placements, and a peaceful campus life at IIT Guwahati.
Placements: The overall placement percent is 62 percent and for B.Tech in mathematics and computing it is more than 90 percent. The average package is approximately 19 LPA-22 LPA, the minimum is around 6 LPA-9 LPA, and the maximum is nearly 90 LPA. Top roles are software development engineer, data analyst, and quantitative analyst. Top recruiters include Google, Microsoft, JPMC, Flipkart, and Adobe. Approximately 70 percent of students secured internships.
Infrastructure: Classes are okay and have a good Wi-Fi facility. There is a central library and most hostels have their own library and reading rooms which can be used to study. Hostel rooms are okay, but they might get cramped UPAT times. Mess food is okay but thankfully there are many canteens and a lot of other food outlets. There is a hospital inside the campus and there are also two gyms.
Faculty: The teachers are very well qualified, and the teaching quality is generally good. Semester exams are not that hard and are moderate and one can mostly score good marks if you listen to the classes. The semester exams are moderate, and people mostly pass and the ones who don't are given a chance to take a supplementary exam.
Other: I chose this course because it is a blend of both mathematics and computing. The course structure involves subjects from both departments and hence provides various career options. The fests are great and there is a lot to learn. The overall environment of the campus during fests like Techniche and Alcheringa is quite different and there is a festive environment.

Its an absolutely great college for engineering. Beautiful campus.
Placements: Upto 70% people are placed here. SDE roles are offered. Many people get an internship easily. Most of the placements are from the campus only. Overall placements are good for students who actively prepare and have strong fundamentals. Roles offered are mainly in SDE, quant for use students. Top recruiters included Microsoft, Google, Amazon, etc.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our campus is well developed with labs, classrooms, a library, Wi-Fi in public areas, and many sports include tennis, cricket, and medical facilities are available in the IITG hospital. The mess food is average but hygienic. There are multiple outlets on the campus, KFC, Domino's, Baskin-Robbins, Urban Tadka, and so on.
Faculty: All the teachers are highly knowledgeable and qualified. The curriculum is completely relevant to the course, both theoretically and practically. Semester exams are moderate to tough. The pass percentage is generally high, but those who attend all the classes and complete assignments on time can easily score high.

IIT Guwahati College review.
Placements: If you were in CSE, ECE, or Mechanical, the placements were amazing. Biotech and Chemical students usually go into research. Average salaries were between 10 and 20 LPA, and even government PSUs come to recruit. The highest package can go all the way up to 1.15 crore, and usually, 70-75% of the class got a job.
Infrastructure: You got Wi-Fi everywhere on campus, and the hostels had plug-in internet. The labs had all the gear we needed, and the library was huge with 200,000 books. Honesty, the food was a 2 out of 5 for me. The doctors and sports areas were good, and while the second-year hostels weren't great, the rest were fine. Overall, the food was just okay.
Faculty: The faculty was very active and had a lot of experience, and they treated all students the same. As you got further into the course, the subjects actually got more interesting. The exams can be a bit of a challenge, but 80% of the students still passed. Teachers were easy to talk to and were pretty impressive people.

IIT Guwahati College review.
Placements: IIT Guwahati was the best. Since it's a top-tier college, everyone got a job. The highest pay was 40 LPA, and the lowest was between 4 and 8 LPA. Companies like Biocon and Cipla came to hire us. About 84% of students got internships that really prepared them for the real world.
Infrastructure: The classrooms felt modern, and the chairs were actually comfy. They had good airflow and smart boards for class. The library had tons of books and online stuff, too. There's also a big research center with high-tech tools. In the boys' hostel, you shared a room with one person and got internet and a desk. We get four meals a day, and there's always an ambulance ready if there's an emergency.
Faculty: The teaching staff was decent, but you really had to show up to class if you wanted to do well. Most people passed, but the ones who skipped usually struggle. The syllabus setup could be better, so sometimes you have to do extra work on your own. The exams were about average, and you just need to keep up with the work.

On Rankings
Q:   What is the rank of IIT Guwahati BTech and MTech?
A:

IIT Guwahati placed at #8 under the 'Engineering' category as per NIRF 2025 reports. India Today ranked it at #5 under the same category. There are no separate rankings for the BTech & M.Tech programme. But the overall ranking suggests that the institute is one of the top Engineering institutes of the country. Surely a good option for BTech/ MTech.

Q:   What should be my target rank for highly competitive courses at IIT Guwahati?
A:

Since the category of the candidate is not mentioned, I'm assuming the same to be under the General All India. To get admission into IIT Guwahati for BTech courses, the closing cutoff ranks ranged between 623 and 9178. Some of the highly competitive courses includes CSE, with the closing cutoff rank of 623, Data Science and AI, with the last-round closing rank of 995, Electrical and Communication Engineering, with the last-round closing rank of 1658. So to target the highly competitive courses, candidate must target a rank of under 2000.
